Something I have touched on recently is Reiki, a form of nonphysical energy healing that involves the use of specific symbols for the healing.
When I was doing some self-healing recently, I wondered what symbol or sigil (I use sigil in a broader sense than some do in the occult world) would help my self-healing, and, after a little experimentation, found that the rune Berkano, which is generally accepted as representing nature (including the birch tree) and the Goddess, was the symbol that works best for me.
Given my heritage, and my initiations, that should come as no surprise.
However, I suspect “what is best” will vary over time and circumstances - and not only with respect to self-healing.
By the way, remembering to work with symbols is part of the healing involved in undoing the damage done by nearly half a century in the corporate world.
(There is also damage done to my willingness to use runes because of the repeat misappropriation of them by n__-N_ z_s and other white supremacists.)
