I actually first began this article back in
around 2009 or 2010, just after I had been to the Parliament of the World’s
Religions. At the time, I was trying to get a new group, the Rangers of the Inner Plane,
off the ground: that may yet happen in the physical (there are a few of us in the astral), but that is likely to be
some time off.
One of the benefits of that, however, has
been a few useful techniques (e.g., see here) and refinements of my teaching methods. One
of the techniques that I want to write about in this post is a guide to
navigation in the non-physical.
Now, one of the problems in trying to get
people to work together psychically is that we tend to all have slightly
different focuses. If I ask two people to, say ... “look into the astral”, I am likely to get the psychic equivalent
of a short sighted red-green colour blind person and a long sighted person with
no colour blindness looking at a vista with lots of reds and greens: one will
see things up close with a sort of filter, and the other will see things
without the filter, but only if they are further away.
I consider this to be a large part of the
problems that developing psychics/mediums have: their psychism/mediumship is
actually OK, it is just focused elsewhere when compared to their teacher’s
focus. I personally consider it is up to the teacher to then find that focus,
and help the student to bring it back to where it should be. So, as an example,
if a student cannot see a thought form you have created, possibly check for
their (psychic equivalent of) focal
length, etc.
What is needed is a psychic equivalent of a
map reference system – latitude and longitude in the non-physical realms.
Simply trying to use the usual planes of
existence (physical, etheric, lower
astral, upper astral, mental, soul, causal) is not good enough, as there
can be massive variation within each plane. You could think of using the planes (e.g., it is on the lower astral) much
as the equivalent of saying “it is on
Jupiter, not Mars or Earth”: then you have to find where exactly “it” is …
The technique developed that I want to write about is
to use a grid system – and I warn now that it isn’t simple, or easy.
The first element or “side” of the grid is
based on the chakras, and the second side is based on the Theosophical idea of “the
seven rays”.
Now, each chakra is a specific energy centre,
with reasonably specific characteristics. For instance, the throat chakra is
generally more effective at communication than, say, the second chakra (although each chakra can be used for other
functions other than their “traditional” meanings). Furthermore, each
chakra is a connection to a plane of existence, and a body that we have on that
level.
Our base chakra is connected to the survival
of our physical body; the second chakra is connected to our etheric, the solar
plexus to the lower astral, and so on. So the first part of this navigation is,
as an example, “energise your 4th
chakra” (which chakra is the 4th depends on which system you are
using – the “traditional” 7 chakra system, or others – such as the 13 chakra
system that I use) “and travel to the level of your 4th body”.
You could say “go to the lower astral”, but
that assumes “lower astral” has the same meaning to everyone. This way gives a
little more rigour to the matter.
The next aspect relates to the seven “Rays”
used in Western Mystery Traditions. There have been a range of sets of colours and attributes over time – for instance,
Theosophical thoughts on this can be read about here and here, and
apparently C.W. Leadbetter had (from
here) the following:
- First ray: Magic of Will of magician;
- Second ray: Magic of Raja Yoga (Development of Mind);
- Third ray: Magic of Astrology (Natural Magnetic Forces);
- Fourth ray: Magic of Hatha Yoga (physical development);
- Fifth ray: Magic of Alchemy (Manipulation of Material Substances);
- Sixth ray: Magic of Bhakti Yoga (Selfless Service and Altruistic Love; agape);
- Seventh ray: Ceremonial magic (Invocation of Elementals, and Devas).
For the sake of having an agreed set to use,
the rays / colours for this technique are those developed by Alice A. Bailey (from here, using a very
much cut down version for simplicity):

To understand this you would probably have to
read Bailey’s The Seven Rays of Life (pub. Lucis Publishing Co., New
York, 1995), but just the colours themselves will suffice for the navigational
technique.
(There is
more, incidentally, on this topic on p. 499 of Christopher Penczak’s book “The Temple of High Witchcraft” [pub.
Llewellyn, ISBN-13 978-0-7387-1165-2], but I’ve currently got that packed away
:( )
Now, think of a colour, any colour. That
colour, whatever it is, can be described as a combination of three primary
colours. As I was writing this, I chose a colour, which is described as 86 red,
53 green and 101 blue.
Any energy state, which is to say, any
location of state of being on a particular non-physical plane, should be
locatable, to some extent, by describing the “ray coordinates” – e.g., this
location is predominantly Ray 3, or that location is – say - 40% Ray 4 and 60%
Ray 7. If you’re good enough, maybe you could describe the constituent Rays
fully, including their BPM and nonBPM components (I did mention three years minimum of training for prospective
incarnate Rangers, right?).
As an example of the latter, consider the
following diagrams, which are examples of ways to map a location on a
particular level:
This mapping is, as mentioned earlier, a
little like specifying the colour combinations that go into making a specific
colour. It can, as outlined here, be used for navigation, but it could also be
used to gain an understanding of how we are on the various levels of our being
–for instance, do we have too much red of the astral, or not enough orange on
the lower mental level? Perhaps we have the wrong shade of blue on the lower
astral.
The technique to use to determine the relative proportions of energies is a topic for another post, perhaps, and boils down to finding what works best for each person concerned.

If you decide to try this, and persist enough
to be able to use it, may it be of benefit. I would expect there are many other
such techniques around. Eventually, people will start working out which ones
work and which ones don’t, and, even further down the track, people will
realise one size does not fit all, and start working which techniques work for
various people …

I'm also exploring use of h2g2, although that doesn't appear to be as extensive (h2g2 is intended - rather engagingly - to be the Earth edition of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy").

no longer as WYSIWYG as it used to be, and there are a lot of unwanted
changes to layout made upon publishing, so I often have to edit it immediately
after publishing to get the format as close to what I want as possible.

The real dividing line is not between
Christianity and Islam, Sunni and Shia, East and West. It is between people who
believe in coexistence, and those who don’t.
- If your “gut” (your instinct/intuition) is telling you something is wrong, but logic and the available evidence is saying otherwise, the proper conclusion to draw is that you need better, more personally credible evidence. Your “gut” could be wrong, right, or missing the nuances / “shades of grey” . So could the available evidence.
- All of the above - and this blog - could be wrong, or subject to context, perspective, or state of spiritual evolution ...
