Post No. 653 - Manipulation of the astral / etheric environment to effect a (spirit) rescue

The essence of the problem for most of the spirits who become earthbound after their physical dies, is that their focus is on the world they used to live in, rather than the astral levels, to which they should be passing. They are - notwithstanding that their etheric body has dispersed, as it usually does after the death of the physical, which is as it is meant to (some etherics take longer to disperse, and may be responsible for sightings of non-responsive ghosts during that period) - stuck in the etheric world, if they are aware of the physical, or a lower astral world, if they are not. The task of the spirit rescuer is to get the earthbound entity's attention directed away from where it is directed, so that the earthbound entity can become aware of  the world as it is.

One of the tools for gaining the attention of an earthbound entity is manipulating the "world" they are focused on. The earthbound entity generally thinks they are perceiving physical reality as they used to know it: if it suddenly does something unexpected, or even impossible, they are startled, and that "startlement", to coin a word, is an opening for the rescuer - it is a little like tapping a person on the shoulder.

As an example, one of the rescues I was a part of during my training involved an entire battle that was being fought in the lower astral. Those taking part had died in an actual battle many years before, and were continuing it, complete with weapons and battle scenes. With the help of our BPLF [1] Guides, we changed their weapons to bunches of flowers.

Startlement much?

As they directed their attention around them, mentally asking each other and, inadvertently, us, "What happened?", we were able to get their attention enough to explain, and then get them to pass over - which also nicely tidied up a little problem situation that had been adversely impacting the physical world, by contributing to nonBPLF aggression.

Well, actually, it worked for most of them: some wanted to keep fighting, with their hands or even trying to hit their enemy with the bunches of flowers (I kid you not). For those, we went a little further and, again, with the  our BPLF Guides, performed another change: this time of them, from a male body to a female.

That got their attention enough for them to stop fighting and be rescued.

Another example that comes to mind is a mass rescue I once did on a train. I became aware that there were a few earthbound entities around, and, again, with the help of my BPLF Guides, created the astral image of a train station, with a train at the adjoining platform. I mentally created an announcement that all were to change trains, and the earthbound entities, good commuters all, all obediently trooped over to the astral creation. Once there, the Guides were able to comment about why the train was so empty on a work day (a bit like the time I went to work on a public holiday in the 80s, after I came back to Melbourne, not realising that the day was a local public holiday), change their own appearance, etc, and gain the attention of the entities and thus effect * a rescue.

The whole effect is a little like converting a waking day into a dream.

I may post other examples here as I think of them.

PS - as I mentioned in a previous post, this used to be very well described at http://www.spiritrescue.co.uk/, but that site appears to not be there now

[2] Please see here and my post "The Death of Wikipedia" for the reasons I now recommend caution when using Wikipedia. I'm also exploring use of h2g2, although that doesn't appear to be as extensive (h2g2 is intended - rather engagingly - to be the Earth edition of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy").

We need to evolve in order to grow - but we can take rest breaks (hopefully well earned :) ) along the way. No, the “purpose” of evolution is, rather, to perfect our ability to learn, and thus grow.

Post No. 259 - Does rescue involve lying?

The short answer to that is - in the STRICTEST sense - yes, but before I elaborate on that I'd like to give a few links to make sure we are on the same "page" - or at least understanding what page we are on:
  • a post on the general notion of taking action or not;
  • a post about bullying and ways of standing up to them:
  • a post about protecting one's home (could it be better, perhaps, to remove the threat?);
  • another post about protection;
  • my first specific post about protection;
  • a post about people who avoid positive energy;
  • a post about the need for rescue (including, by inference, uncooperatives); and
  • my post about rescuing uncooperatives.
My view of reality is very much based on the notion that we are here to learn to be better people. A key part of that is, unfortunately, learning things "the hard way" - which means experiencing the consequences of our actions, good and bad (which is effectively what karma is about - see here and here). Combine that with the notion of protection (see the above post), and you can get to the point of view where someone who is harming others may have to be stopped for the overall good (the "Highest Spiritual Good"). If you do not think that is so, then in my opinion you are supporting the view that maniacs with guns can go on killing sprees and no-one is allowed to stop them in the interests of other people's safety and/or wellbeing.

The astral equivalent of that may not be as visible to most people, but DESPITE THAT the harm is JUST AS REAL (and possibly of longer lasting effect). Similarly, the agreement about basic rules of conduct ("laws") also exists, albeit at the level of your innermost self: your Higher Self.

Thus, subject to developing enough verified psychic ability to check what is happening and needs to be done with those in the spirit world who are guiding those in this world, rescue of uncooperatives (i.e. against their will) is something that I consider morally and ethically justified AND NECESSARY. In fact, I consider failing to perform the rescue of an uncooperative when you can is tantamount to LETTING - or even aiding and abetting - the aforementioned armed maniac murder other people.

In fact, I consider those who think everything can be done in the nice, pleasant way the character Melinda Gordon (played by Jennifer Love Hewitt) does in the TV series "Ghost Whisperer" to be naive.

So, how does lying fit into this?

Well, it is more those who are borderline uncooperative. Uncooperatives I have no problem confronting, and if they choose to resist passing over to the higher astral, then they will be forcibly placed in a portion of the lower astral [1]. That is not a pleasant experience [2], but at least they have been removed from a level of reality where they can and will influence incarnate people, animals, plants and places - possibly against the free will of said incarnate people, animals, plants and places.

Cooperatives are those people who, by a combination of talking/counselling/healing (the approach most people know about in terms of rescue) and changing the environment (which most amateurs don't know about, and covers things like channelling a male entity through a female medium [or vice versa], changing the weapons of soldiers who are still fighting into bunches of flowers, etc - see the description of "scene rescue" here for more on this), can be persuaded within a reasonable time and expenditure of energy to move from earthbound to passing over to the astral worlds. Their largest problem is lack of awareness of being dead - and the denial of even being able to feel arms or legs described by the character Molygruber in Lobsang Rampa's book "Three Lives" is a very good explanation of that.

Uncooperatives, in my experience, almost universally have some level of awareness of their death, or their ability to influence others. They may in fact be permitted to do so for a period of time as part of the karmic return of the person who harmed them (hence, for instance, a murderer/rapist/bully may experience being haunted), or possibly as part of the prelude to healing for the victim, but there comes a time when the earthbound entity needs to move on. They may, for instance, have started affecting innocent people who simply bear, for instance, some physical similarity to the person who harmed them (which has happened to me: I can recall one entity who attached himself to me simply because my hair looked like that of his former wife).

There are people who are borderline between cooperative and uncooperative: trying to do a cooperative rescue may take a rescue session several days or weeks long (which is not practical), and they still have to be stopped from harming others. Well, it is possible to change to doing an uncooperative rescue, but I know what that experience is like (as, I can guarantee, does almost every single person reading this from previous lives!): if I can, perhaps, "trick" them into moving over cooperatively, perhaps by telling them a white lie (or, for instance, agreeing to one of their guides presenting with the image of someone they know and respect or love, or perhaps the creation of a thought form of their notion of "heaven" [3]), then I would rather do that than condemn them to being placed in the lower astral.

One example of that comes from a recent rescue I did while clearing up influences making a back problem I had worse. One of the entities who was affecting that was a pilot who had died in the Second World War. His last sensation was of the excruciating sensation as his back was broken. Being earthbound with that sensation was something he had to go through karmically, as in several previous lives as a soldier, he had deliberately broken several people's backs. Now, his sole awareness was limited to that pain. Could we put healing in? No - he did not believe such things were possible, and rejected several attempts to help him that way. Would he accept the image of a doctor from the Second World War? Yes, but - partly out of his guilt, which he was aware of on some less conscious (to the "earthbound him"), and partly out of knowing the limitations of medicine from the time of his last life, he did not believe that his pain could be relieved. So we - we meaning HIS DLF Guides, my DLF guides and I, working together - told him a white lie: we said medicine had advanced and could now fix his back. That got his attention enough for us to get him out of that earthbound situation, and into what he perceived as a hospital, as part of the healing and education process before he moves fully into the astral.

So ... can rescue involve lying? Yes.

Is it ethical behaviour? Yes. Something to think on ... and feel free to disagree :)

Notes:
  1. Keep in mind that your Higher Self may have chosen for you to spend a certain amount of time earthbound after your incarnation. When that time is up, it is acceptable, right and for your own benefit to pass over. If you choose to fight against that, and wind up being moved from earthbound (i.e. on the etheric plane) to the lower astral against your (Higher Self) choice, lower self you will be creating negative karma for yourself.
  2. There some interesting descriptions of this in Joan Grant's book "Winged Pharaoh", which is another book I hope to review.
  3. Such elaborate through forms are usually inhabited by entities, but some detail will not be quite right (e.g. Rampa mentioned, as an example, the movement of "angels" does not connect to the rhythm of their wings) and eventually the person will call out to see the truth, and will do so.

Post No. 258 - The death of Osama bin Laden

There has been an enormous amount of coverage given to reports of Bin Laden's death. If this is true (and I note that there are some who claim bin Laden was killed years ago, but those people feel to me somewhat akin to those conspiracy theorists who claim the moon landings were faked - who are a group of people I have VERY considerable doubts about! [1] ), then this person has met SOME of his karmic return and can no longer create more negative karma by encouraging or inspiring or arranging acts of terrorism (as I write that I am thinking of a Tibetan king from a millennia or so ago who was killed by a Tibetan monk to allegedly stop the king creating too much negative karma: the closest I can find to this is Langdarma, but that isn't quite what I am looking for).

That's not something to gleefully celebrate [2] .

Apart from views such as that of Geoffrey Robertson, QC, who pointed out that a trial would have done much to discredit bin Laden in the eyes of his supporters, what such celebrations show about vengeful attitudes (see this post from the Christian Scientist Monitor website [a surprisingly good source of commentary], which says that celebrating bin Laden's death is anti-American and not biblical, and think of the comment I have read comparing those celebrating bin Laden's death with the Palestinians who celebrated at news of the 9/11 attacks) and people in glass houses throwing rocks (I have been concerned about First World's behaviour towards the Third World for decades, long before bin Laden went to Afghanistan in the 80s to fight Russians), I do NOT believe that this removes or significantly reduces the terrorist risk the world faces from a whole range of sources.

Furthermore, we still have the legacy of extreme security measures, including personal "searches" in the USA that are effectively a form of sexual assault (does anyone at the TSA have any common sense? [3] ) and other security theatre actions that have been implemented to address public fear/hysteria (see here for comments including that bin Laden's death is a Pyrrhic victory). I've got to the stage where, for several years now, I prefer to drive rather than fly, as I don't fit into the nice, neat little box that people have of what a female should look and sound like, and am liable to get hassled (I also leave my personal talismans at home, which is upsetting: that is to avoid triggering concerns of security people at airports, but leaves me distressed for the entire trip, including trying to function without something that is important to me).

The British (who are reviewing their anti-terrorism laws - see here) used to make a point of trying to keep things going as normally as possible when threatened by "terrorism" in various situations - e.g., "the troubles" (and many other places as well, mostly places they had invaded as part of building the British Empire). That lesson appears to have been lost in the last decade or so ...

Now, let's look at Ireland. During and after the Roman Empire, the Irish raided the Brits, and that may have led (e.g. through karmic return) to the English invasion centuries later. The later invasion became (or was always intended to be!) an occupation, as part of that occupation discrimination became entrenched against the Catholic Irish, that plus the simple fact of occupation led to attempts at independence - which was ultimately successful in the larger portion of Ireland, but the Northern part, where there were more Protestants/people presumed to be of English heritage, continued to be part of the British Empire, and continued the discrimination until eventually the IRA started its campaign - against Northern Irish people as much as against the English. It was, in effect, a civil war, and they are the nastiest, dirtiest of wars - read up on the American Civil War (where total warfare and what were effectively concentration camps were used by Americans against Americans) and the English War of the Roses. The English resisted giving in to the terror campaign of "the troubles" - but they also made colossal, catastrophic mistakes such as Bloody Sunday, and it was eventually movements for peace that I have mentioned previously, such as the mothers protesting against the loss of their children (see here for instance), which led to a serious move towards both peace. Importantly, there was also some action over these decades to redress some of the wrongs arising from discrimination (see here).

I've seen major, violent conflicts come out of discrimination two other times in this life that I can recall as I write this: in Bangladesh, then Eastern Pakistan, when I was a child beginning to take an interest in world politics (see here), and in Sri Lanka - where early scenes of violence reminded me of what I saw in reports from Bangladesh (see here and here). Then, of course, there's the whole South African apartheid history, a terrible time of terrible actions inspired by the "White Australia" policy of my nation ... (at least the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was something to come out of that terrible time which may inspire the rest of the world to do better in many areas)

The campaigns attributed to bin Laden's mob and related cronies/mobs have a complex set of causes, and the people fighting them are not necessarily the personally disadvantaged many think are involved (see here), but I consider there are human rights issues (including poverty/hunger/development issues) which need to be addressed as part of contributing towards the world being a safe and stable place for all - and I do mean ALL, not just First World economic interests (whether those are American, British, French, Australian or other).The Wikipedia entry on terrorism has interesting comments in the sections on motivations (including what US "patriots" did on collaborators during the War of Independence) and responses (including - surprise! surprise! - "preemptive humanitarian activities" ... I'm also very aware of the appalling history of my nation [Australia] with regard to indigenous people: the point is, no-one has a perfect history - people in glass houses should not throw rocks).

I personally considered the invasion of Afghanistan) after 9/11 justified. Possibly it would have been "nicer", in a sense, if the change had happened much as the recent revolutions in the Arab world (see here [4]), but I don't think anyone in Afghanistan was in a position to do that after decades of active war.

However, as I wrote to various politicians at the time, I considered and still consider the invasion of Iraq to have been unjustified, immoral and illegal [5] - a status that is, in my possibly erroneous opinion, one of the main reasons that this whole exercise (meaning the invasions of both Afghanistan and Iraq) became such an effective recruiting tool for terrorists, rather than a measure taken against a morally corrupt regime (i.e. the Taliban) who had imposed themselves on a nation by violent means and then exported that violence.

I suspect the so-called "war on terror" (I'm glad President Obama appears to have dropped the use of this term!) will achieve many of its apparent aims (around reducing certain types of terrorist activity in certain areas of the world), but that will possibly also make addressing ALL of the causes of the terrorism (including the less credited causes such as poverty and the disparity in living standards between the first and third worlds) harder to achieve (incidentally, thank the Goddess for organisations like Médecins Sans Frontières - Doctors Without Borders).

Is the world a more spiritual place with bin Laden dead? Depends ... if he's earthbound, he will continue to influence people directly; if he has been taken to the astral or lower astral, at least the amount of direct psychic influence he can exert will be removed ... if the expected retaliation does not increase the amount of overall suffering in the world, maybe it will be better ... maybe the scale of reaction from bin Laden's supporters will psychically outweigh that of those who are glad to see his demise (although I tend to doubt that) [6] which will mean possibly not ... if the complications from Pakistan's involvement/lack of involvement do not exacerbate tensions or problems, maybe ... if the reaction of moderates in the Islamic world to the USA's actions are reasonable (albeit possibly disapproving or even mildly angry), maybe ... if the underlying causes of terrorism are not addressed, maybe not ... if the harsh, extreme reactions to security threats are left in place, definitely not.

Very few things in this life or the next are as simple as we would wish ...

Updates
Here are a few more links that are worth looking at and pondering:

Update No. 2

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that"
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Notes:

  1. Another set of conspiracy theorists I view with bemusement are those who are carrying on about President Obama's birth certificate: so what? Doesn't it matter most what sort of a job he is doing as President? Interesting that conspiracy nuts get a mention in discussion about whether to release photos of bin Laden's body or not - see here.

  2. One aspect of this that some may not have considered is talking to children about why people are celebrating at killing, which is supposed to be wrong (according to most parents). Here is one set of suggestion on dealing with that, albeit a set of suggestions that can be argued.

  3. See here, and here, for instance. (What's wrong with the stick figure X-ray machines, rather than showing everyone's genitals in graphic detail? See here)

  4. Here are a few thoughts (by others) on being a spectator, and here, here and here are some thoughts on Libya (I consider the last of these to be going beyond the mandate from the UN, as some actions being undertaken may be doing now: what is the solution? Empower and then fight harder in the UN!).

  5. It is ironic that the US supported Saddam Hussein against the Iranians after they got rid of the person the US had put in power: that, however, is not, in my opinion, a reason to leave him in power - two wrongs, with the second wrong being to allow the first wrong to continue uncorrected, don't make a right (I feel a bit like the invasion makes it a sequence of about three major wrongs that the Iraqi people have now been subjected to). Nevertheless, I consider the invasion to be morally wrong: the US-led coalition should have allowed the United Nations to do it's thing, even if the time that took didn't meet the approval of the US's head honchos at the time.

  6. On the one hand we have:
    no. angry people x intensity of anger + no. of conspiracy nuts x intensity of suspicion + no. fanatical celebrations of bin Laden's death x intensity of fanaticism (yes, they're on both sides);
    on the other hand we have:
    no. calmer people x additional calmness + reduced no. of angry people x reduction of anger
    ... I'll leave the maths now, I think :)

Post No. 254 - Rescuing uncooperatives

When I I learned how to do spirit rescue [1], one of the basic classifications of those who are earthbound I was taught is into cooperative, and uncooperative.
Cooperatives are those souls who, although they may be upset, frustrated or even angry, are basically not against passing over "in principle". For more information on this, see the information I use to teach people here. This is the sort of entity that is most commonly covered by shows such as "Ghost Whisperer" - although some episodes get into less cooperative entities. (I still find that show rather frustrating to watch: I will labour through it all one day, I suppose ...)
On the other hand, uncooperatives are enjoying being earthbound - whether that is because they are indulging in revenge or some form of getting even, perhaps because they have found they can influence people so easily (see the scene in the film "Always" where Richard Dreyfuss' character snaps at a cleaner about "looking funny", thereby changing the poor unfortunate's mood and day) and are now getting back at everyone who dumped on them while they were alive, or perhaps they were always a nasty character, and have just given their nastiness full reign. They have an awareness and intent that cooperatives don't, and they may well be, to use counselling parlance, "challenging".
They will be aware of your personal sensitivities (e.g., concerns about appearance, lack of confidence, internalised homophobia, unresolved gender identity, relationship uncertainties, etc, etc, etc), and actively use them to try to aggravate or upset you, or to disrupt the group that you are working in. This can be bad enough when it is done aggressively, but the uncooperatives who do this under a facade of niceness are - to me - far more scary.
This was also mentioned in the book "Spirit Releasement Therapy", by William Baldwin.
I gave a fairly basic flow sheet on rescuing uncooperatives at my other blog (see here). The essence of this is:

  • one has to use an energy, object, thought form, (controlled or slave, in the case of an uncooperative's unpleasantry) entity, etc (the general term I was taught to use is "unit", and that is what I will continue to use now) in order to manifest something - for example, to be intimidating, one has to have and be willing and able to use intimidation units (I was going to use anger as an example, but I have pointed out previously that anger is not an emotion - it is an expression of something else, so I better not shoot myself in the foot :) );

  • if those units are taken away, it is - more or less - not possible (or certainly more difficult) to manifest that emotion/effect.
So ... let's say there is an uncooperative entity who it has been decided (by that entity's Higher Self, and/or the guides/Higher Selves of the victims of that entity) that enough is enough, and it is time for the entity to either pass over, or at least be removed from a situation where people still alive or earthbound can be influenced by that entity. (There is a lot of checking that goes into agreeing that such is the case, by the way ... an enormous amount of checking, cross-checking and re-checking - makes the system of appeals etc in the court system look pale by comparison ... )
In that case, if the entity cannot be persuaded to become cooperative (a task often easier for those with counselling skills or extensive life experience), the entity will basically be captured, isolated from his/her/hir back-up/support, and the units being used by the entity cleared (see here, and at various places in this blog, including here) until the entity becomes cooperative enough to pass over.
Sounds simple, doesn't it?
Well, that's where the "challenging behaviour" comes in. Those undertaking this work may be provoked, taunted, mocked, etc, etc, etc - and there are cases, where the restraint is applied by bringing the entity into a medium [2] (which is NOT covered by my flow chart, which only addresses "mental" rescue), that the medium (if in deep enough a trance) may need to be physically restrained. I'm generally too much of a sticky beak to be a deep trance medium - I want to hang around and see what is going on, and see what I can learn, but I have been in the situation where my body was restrained - that actually led to some encouragement to back off out of the situation, actually, as I didn't particularly want that sort of sensation :)
Actually, there can be considerable benefits for a trance medium in volunteering to do rescue of uncooperatives. These include paying off negative karmic debt by doing good and by experiencing something unpleasant for a good cause, contributing to the amount of selflessness in the world (it takes quite a bit of generosity to allow others to use one's body ... also, look up tonglen), and, perhaps most importantly, by having a chance to see what units one may have in one's aura that one isn't aware of.
If you are, perhaps, always pleasant and cooperative, stepping out and having an entity come in who is snarling and snapping and aggressive is a shock: it can be a greater shock to notice that the entity is actually using YOUR unpleasantness units. This then gives considerable motivation to examine oneself and clear negative units, past lives and acknowledge & learn lessons that one needs to that one has been, perhaps, suppressing ... before next week's session :) My big issue that I found out about was complacency ... I already knew I had a problem with anger, and had done quite a bit of work on that. Other problems I worked on more effectively as a result of this were personal insecurity and jealousy.
Theoretically, if one is almost a saint or is a Boddhisattva in nature, when the entity is brought into your body, there are no units other than what the entity brings with her/hir/him, and those can be more easily cleared because your aura is so free of that type of unit. (Some advanced souls actually absorb negativity from other people and dissolve them: that's a little different in application to this - for a start, they are working on their own - but there are similarities of principle.)
In other words, the experience can be a growing experience as one gets to have flaws in one's character that one didn't even suspect, as they were so well buried, revealed in excruciating detail :)
Now, there are a couple of other facets to this.
Firstly, it is absolutely vital that you never lose. If you do, the entity will get a surge of confidence, and will have the advantage of knowing how you work, and thus will be able to do greater harm and help others resist your efforts to clear them. So, as the Rangers of the Inner Plane motto goes: never lose - heal, learn, win. This generally means you will be working for as long as is necessary to clear or adequately contain the entity - possibly many hours, possibly even finishing in the early hours of the morning (we generally started in the evening).
Secondly, if you have a skilled enough interviewer, it is possible to turn this around and aggravate the uncooperative. In response, they will pull in more negative units, thereby giving all the sitters the opportunity to do more clearing.

Post No. 251 - On why I have been ruined for death ...

To be clear, I am NOT claiming any sort of immortality. No, the reason I chose this title is to show the change in values which occurs as one works with spirit rescue or some form of psychism (e.g., "proof of survival" mediumship [1], or astral travel) which improves awareness of "survival after death". In my case, I have been doing rescue since the early 1980s, and have had some form of psychic sensitivity for most of my life.

With the deaths of people who were close to me before the 80s (e.g. the wife of someone I crewed for when young, who was like a "mum-away-from-home" when we travelled, or another woman who was like a "universal mother" to most of us kids in the sailing club), I went through the commonplace feelings of loss and the process of grieving. By the time my (adoptive) Mother passed, a few years ago, however, I had considerably developed my ability to interact with the dying process, and with those who were earthbound or in the process of passing over - partly through my interest in the writings of Lobsang Rampa [2], partly through my general "New Age" study, reading and activities, but largely through the study and practical work I did at ASPECTS [3] .

As my Mother was dying in a hospice (the staff there were brilliant, by the way), unlike the rest of my family I could see and acknowledge those drawing round Mum, such as her father (who we called Pop). After she had passed (ironically, after waiting by her side for days, this happened while I was away for a couple of hours), when I looked at her body I saw but an empty shell. I knew she could be in contact if she wished (someone else I knew and was close to passed in the early 90s, and she would drop in from time to time - or do things like ask me to check on her daughter [which I eventually stopped doing as the daughter and I grew apart] or her husband).

I now find it impossible to grieve the way other people do - the wailing (physical or metaphorical), the lamentations, and so forth. I KNOW that I can still be in touch with someone I am close to - provided they wish to stay in contact, of course. People change in response to major life events, and one of those changes is the mini-enlightenment which comes after passing and going through the post-death debriefing (seeing the Akashic Record of one's life, and so forth - see Rampa's "Three Lives" for descriptions of this): part of those changes may be realising that the relationships formed during the past life were temporary, and that one has more important relationships/tasks ... or they may simply not like what they see of the living's true character :)

Of course, at the time of my mother's passing I felt I had to more or less "make a show" of being as upset as expected to be - and I willingly did so, as I knew it would help my family members. That is not to say I didn't have any grief -I would miss the physical hugs etc [4], but the depth of my grief was moderated by my experience.

I am currently doing what could be considered a form of "sitting Shiva" with my partner (although it could equally be considered being supportive), whose mother passed away just after we had been away on a trip (hence the gap in posts) - it is, obviously, not a complete adherence to this tradition, but it does bring to mind some of the differing cultural attitudes to death (which my partner and I have talked about).

For instance, the Tibetan "Book of the Dead" [5], sometimes called the "Bardo Thodol", is largely based on guiding the spirit of the dead person through the Bardo until they are safely in a womb - which is part of the Buddhist concept of rebirth, as opposed to the concept of reincarnation, where one generally has a certain amount of time in the astral between incarnations and a more personal stream of consciousness passes to the next life [6]. In this book, what I have re-read so far suggests that the perceptions may be somewhat culturally derived: I don't think a Westerner would experience the same visions etc, so reading the Bardo Thodol would probably be of limited value to a Westerner who had just died. Tibetan traditions include, if one can afford it, having a lama (or some less expensive person!) read the Bardo Thodol over a period of several days, to guide the soul safely through to their next rebirth. Being captured by demons is one of the concerns relating to this time, which has a few parallels to the concept of being earthbound (although being earthbound does not come with the Tibetan tradition of being able to bribe the demon or buy the soul's freedom ... ).

It is interesting to compare the emphasis on personal effort in the Bardo Thodol with the possibly greater role of rituals, spells and deities in the "Egyptian Book of the Dead" (unfortunately, my copy of that is still in storage, so I can't comment too much here). My recollection is that the Egyptians didn't believe in reincarnation (hence the effort to make sure that those in the Afterlife were going to be happy - and, in the case of the Pharoahs, to make the necessary approaches to Deities to keep things good back on Earth ...).

It is also interesting to compare and contrast the two "Books of the Dead", Rampa's writings, Alexandra David-Neel's writings, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross' books on grief [7], and my own experiences.

  2. I am actually getting quite a bit from the Yahoogoup "The Rampa Path" at the moment - not that I agree with every post, or would seek to be buddies in real life with some of the people, but the discussion is largely focused on Rampa's writings, and some good comments are made.
  3. Study and practical work I thought quite hard at the time,but it is interesting to compare that with the treatment meted out to disciples by Tibetan gurus - see, for instance, Alexandra David-Neel's book "Magic & Mystery in Tibet" (my copy was published by Souvenir Press, ISBN 9 78025 637924).
  4. The grief for someone who is physically intimate, such as a lover, would be more intense because of the loss of physical sensations - which cannot be made up for unless you can astral travel consciously, in which case you can choose to experience astral sex and astral hugs.

    "Grief" can take some less conventional avenues as well: I used to know some women who were taking legal action against a relative who had abused them. Their alleged abuser died before the matter could come to court, and as a result they were left without resolution in the physical world. I'm aware that there would be a resolution in the astral, but the lack of such in this physical world means everyone will eventually arrive in a far more damaged state ...
  5. My version is the Evens-Wentz version (Oxford University Press, ISBN 0-19-500223-7 - I am looking forward to reading the psychological commentary by Jung), which credits the translation to Lama Dawa-Samdup, who may be the same person mentioned by David-Neel (who was, accoding to David-Neel, extremely hard on his disciples).
  6. Interesting to read of the Norse having a reference to reincarnation - see here.
  7. One of the big shortcomings in what has been written by most people I have read is that it focuses on the personal, whereas my experience is that the dynamics of families and groups is a MAJOR part of the death experience - for both the living and the dead.

Post No. 225 - Earthbound - an explanation / "definition"

I have finally found a good explanation of "earthbound", courtesy of the Spirit Rescuers site: see here.

I have come across this website previously, and consider the explanation of "scene rescue" EXCELLENT, as it is more or less what I often do. I also consider the warnings about bogus guides, and hence the need to CHECK everything you get, equally important (see also "Hungry Ghost"). To quote from the relevant page:
I've always considered these words of Shakespeare's Macbeth to be most apt, (Banquo to Macbeth)
"But 'tis strange, and oftentimes, to win us to our harm,
The instruments of darkness tell us truths,
Win us with honest trifles, to betray's
In deepest consequence."
The site is worth a general browse: the main page is here.

Post No. 214 - Denial and other personal negative shields and barriers, or what I have learned from being trans

OK, so let's get controversial, shall we? Well, I will, at any rate, so ... hold onto your socks lest they get blown off :D

Now, we often fail to acknowledge or face up to things like personal flaws or faults. This denial, along with whatever the reason for such denial was (often guilt, or fear of others' disapproval), creates shields or barriers - some psychological, some psychic.

I will leave the psychological blocks to the shrinks, but the psychic ones are my area of expertise :)

These barriers - actually, I'll just stick to calling them shields, as that is how they are usually sensed by me - are capable of being perceived by a psychic (actually, maybe I should use a broader term: a "sensitive", often used in this context to mean one who is sensitive to psychic energies, but may have the advantage of dodging round the baggage that many people hang on the term "psychic" - baggage such as "oh I'm not psychic" [often said due to false pride, or a desire to manipulate others into giving praise, as well as the more common simple disbelief]). In my case, I sense these literally as shields in the person's aura (including my own, if I find that I have any such shields).

Now, I am in favour, in most circumstances, of combining methods of working. Hence, for instance, I most often tell (if I am asked for my opinion!) people to combine alternative medicine with conventional. They work in different ways on the same problem, and are often complementary. If we go back to one of my favourite sayings - "truth is a multi-faceted jewel" - for an analogy, one type of medicine works on the problem through one facet, the other works through another facet. Perhaps a better analogy would be to consider raising a load: one form of medicine takes part of the load, the other takes the rest. If you try to use only one form of medicine, perhaps it will be overloaded?

So, going back to shields, I consider the ONLY way they can be removed is by both:
(a) addressing the psychology that led to their creation (whether through counselling or GOOD personal growth work); AND
(b) dissolving the energy that is there.

Now, the good news about the second point is that you don't have to be psychic to do that: much of it can be done from the astral - i.e., when you are astral travelling during your sleep state. It is, however, dealt with more quickly and efficiently if you do it consciously. That means, learn and APPLY the techniques I write about in my blogs.

Now, there are some circumstances where I will deal with the shields and barriers of other people. Those circumstances are:
(i) where they are actively harming other people to a significant extent, or
(ii) where those shields have been inserted by other people (often discarnate) as a means of controlling the victim.

I have posted about this attitude of mine towards people deliberately harming others previously (see here). As I have commented elsewhere, if someone has a gun and is shooting other people, you don't say "it is the shooter's free will". Well, much of the behaviour in society is akin to that shooting, but on a nonphysical level, where people who are not sensitive do not see or notice that someone is metaphorically bleeding to death or in pain not of their own choosing.

I personally consider that to be fairly obvious as a principle, although I freely admit not everyone is sensitive enough to perceive the reality of it.

Shields are capable of actively harming someone by:
- restricting their growth (e.g. by cutting of access to guides, or stopping the flow of ideas, etc);
- by contributing to sense of guilt or fear (e.g. fear of being unloved); or
- by stopping them understanding themselves.
These are not just passive blocks that interfere with interactions with other people (as the word perhaps suggests): they are much more sinister than that.

The second point is less obvious: creating doubts, guilts and fears within other people to enable them to be controlled. Ah, but then ... I suppose there has been a fairly extensive history of such behaviour, and that might help people to understand the effect of these negative psychic units. Probably the most recent and spectacular examples from history would be the Nazi, Stalinist Russian and African/Middle East dictators' (such as Mugabe and Idi Amin) controls over people, and quite a few people regard varioius forms of religion as controlling people, but I understand that Robert Menzies once said something to the effect that he didn't need to ban the Communist party in Australia (possibly after he had lost the referendum?) because the controls exerted in suburban living rooms over other people were far more stringent than anything he could come up with. Which, of course, is why we needed the flower-power 60s - to start breaking down that sort of socialisation/social control of other people. I dread the prospect of having been alive as the adult I now am during the 50s and 60s - particularly being trans (not to mention lesbian, pagan and - shock! horror! - a woman). I think I would have knocked myself off rather than try to live that way ... (or try to change it ... *shrugs* who knows? :) ).

There are earthbound entities who enjoy exerting power and control over people. maybe they see this as getting even for wrongs they did or thought they experienced while alive ... maybe it is just the nasty personality they had while alive still continuing as a result of them having failed to pass over properly.

There are even networks of such entities - much in the same way as a gang of (incarnate) youths may band together to go bullying or attacking people they perceive as weak, or people who are different and therefore threatening to their insecure sense of self.

In those cases, some of the motivation is the desire to belong, or to get assurance from people they consider their peers. It's more or less a variation of the sad old "any attention, even negative attention, is better than no attention".

Now, one of the aims of my proposed "Rangers of the Inner Plane" who I have mentioned previously (see, for instance, here, here, here, here [which also has some relevant comments on other aspects of this post, as the title - “Honour, Mistakes and Forgiveness” - may suggest], here, here, and here), is finding situations where people are being psychically controlled, and breaking that control to re-establish the free will of the victim.

Determining this is not always simple or clear cut, and I am proposing quite extensive training (the course is currently at about 3 to 4 years length, based on weekly "lectures" and ongoing practice and exercises) on this aspect - particularly around some of the self destructive behaviour that people may indulge in as a result of their own free will. Such behaviour is actually VERY RARELY due to external control ...

Given all that, however, there are things which can be done about this. They include:
  • learning to ground, shield and centre yourself (closing your aura is particularly important - far more so, in my opinion, than shutting down chakras [we never REALLY shut down our chakras: if we did, we would suffer serious harm, possibly even death; what most people REALLY mean when they say "close your chakras" is "desensitise your chakras" - and my experience is that closing the aura is more essential, although it is best if you do both);
  • developing your psychic health and strength; and
  • reducing your vulnerability by undertaking personal growth or increasing your awareness (e.g. by studying sociology or becoming an activist).
I've posted elsewhere about these skills. I also consider the alternate nostril breathing technique Lobsang Rampa describes to be absolutely invaluable. It strengthens and balances your mind. At first, I didn't notice the bit about "balancing", and was afraid that it would lead only to a stronger mind that would be possibly more locked into negativity, but that doesn't seem to be the case - certainly it hasn't for me.

I've also posted elsewhere about learning to do things like clearing and spirit rescue (e.g., here). Those skills are where one can start to actively work on those discarnates who are controlling others.

Just remember free will! If someone actually chooses to let themselves be controlled, you cannot do anything about it unless they are in turn harming others against the others' will: then you can, in my opinion, take action to stop the harm being done to the others.

Now, a big caution here: if you threaten or attack something that is important to other people, they will usually defend that. In this particular case, if you attempt to reduce the power of an egomaniac, as many of these controlling earthbound entities are, they will be less than pleased. It's a bit like walking up to a dictator (think Hitler, Stalin, Idi Amin, Saddam Hussein, Robert Mugabe) and saying "I am going to take away your secret police and the other ways you use to control and keep subservient people". They're likely to try and do something to you. So ... don't try this unless you have very well developed skills of psychic self defence, PARTICULARLY around dealing with indirect psychic attack. (Indirect psychic attack is where someone gets at you by attacking someone close to you.)

When you start doing this sort of work, you become a threat to quite a few earthbound dictators, and they tend to take you on, including sending astral thugs round to try coming the heavy with you and/or your loved ones. So, you need to be very alert, very switched on. In my case, I sometimes astrally broadcast a warning that I will take on anyone who tries to come and have a go at me and clear their negative units (such as the shields and defences I've mentioned) "against their will". This is a bit like having a big, astral "Beware! The dog bites!" sign.

This is particularly so for people who want to try and take me on on the basis of me being trans - and I include other trans people in that: if they want to get at me by having other trans people attacked, I will regard it as an attack upon myself. In effect, I am saying "if you do that, I will remove your shields and defences without your permission and enact the most terrible, cruel "curse" that I can possibly think of: forcing you to learn to be a better human being".

That "curse" of forcing someone to learn not to do something, or learning to be a better human being, really IS far worse than just trying to return pain or misery, as it does force them (IF it is effective) to change who they are, and thus directly undermines what led to the behaviour and thereby denies them the "reward" they sought for that behaviour in the first place (because it is no longer something of any value to them). Having been through quite a bit of personal growth myself, I know just how difficult and demanding that can be, at times. So don't underestimate my approach just because it sounds "soft".

Now, there are two qualifiers to this approach.

Firstly, karma. In general, whatever you give out, or fail to give out, will come back to you. That means if you aim to cause someone else pain - even if they have done so to you first - that is potentially what you are creating for yourself. (Does the force 'em to learn to be better sound more appealing now? :) ) HOWEVER, if you have the capacity to take action to help others, and YOU DO NOT, then that failure to be helped when you need it is also something that you are potentially creating for yourself.

There was a recent article about karma on the Witch's Voice website which I thought was mostly poor, but it covers this issue of failing to take action: if I can find the link for it, I'll post it (sorry!).

What I have been teaching people for 20 years is, when they embark on this work, specifically ask their DLF guides to immediately do to them whatever it is that they are doing to others during (and after) a clearing circle. This helps sitters become aware of things they are doing unconsciously, but it also helps set the scene for keeping a check on your motivation and actions. Are you comfortable having your own negative shields and barriers ripped out of you? (I still make this request, by the way: it is a very important part of making sure I am ethical - of course, I am trying to be "positive" with the energies in my aura and life generally, so I actually quite enjoy having negative units removed.)

This leads to the second point: never leave a vacuum. Now, if you remove a negative psychic unit, such as a shield of emotional denial, that unit is likely to be recreated by the person unless they are given something else to hold to. (One of my former students and I removed several earthbound entities and thought forms from one woman in particular, and each time she just unconsciously went out and dragged in another one.) So, when I work on my attackers this way, I also try to strengthen their links to their Higher Selves and their DLF Guides (including doing this for earthbound entities, if I cannot rescue them for some reason). I may try to stimulate their higher chakras (crown and those above - see my posts on chakras here, here, here and here).

Think about this from the point of view of being in that situation (and I can guarantee that most of you will have, in some long distant past life ... waaaay back there!). Would you prefer to:
(a) have your values ripped away and be left totally exposed and vulnerable; or
(b) have your values ripped away and be given a glimmer of hope and teaching about a better way to think or be?

(Don't think about this from the point of view of being back there in that horrible past as you are now, with all your enlightenment an' all, but as you were then: fearful of being isolated or socially unconnected, perhaps, fearful that you would be "contaminated" by contact with people who were different, or fearful that anyone who was different would stop the world being the way you wanted it to be ... )

So, having got this perspective on the situation, one other bit of advice: never lose.

If you take on someone and they get the better of you, then you are telling all the earthbound entities and others around (in the nonphysical sense) that this is the measure of the strength that they have to get to in order to get some control over you. If something doesn't go the way you think it should, then ... heal, learn, win.

This sometimes requires sessions to go for longer than anticipated, if you are working at a major level of intensity. It can be useful to be in a life situation that is a little flexible.

It would be useful at this stage to look at the flow charts is this post from my other blog.

Of course, you don't have to work at that level of intensity. By doing anything to make the world a better place you will still be contributing constructively, in a worthwhile and valuable way. It's a little like raising the Kundalini: you don't necessarily HAVE to do any special exercises to raise the Kundalini. When you have spiritually evolved enough, it will rise of its own accord.

On that issue of spiritually evolving, I've learned the hard way, the same as others have. One issue I have had to work through that others may not have is being trans. It may be useful to cover some of the spiritual lessons I have personally had from that, but it needs to kept in mind that these lessons are unlikely to apply to any other trans person. Everyone is unique, and we all have our own reasons for being in a particular situation.

So ... in no particular order, the lessons I've learned from being trans include (and this is by no means a complete list!) the following:
  • Things are not always as others say they are. The fairly obvious lesson here is that what I was taught by society about gender and sexuality was wrong: one is not "born a (physical) sex and that's it", and one does not grow up, get married, have kids and then die. Life has far greater richness, far more variety - on very fundamental levels - than that. I was, in my opinion, born female: my physical shell, the outermost, least important part of me didn't match that - but that doesn't change the REALITY that I am, and always have been in this life, female. Of course, my idea of "what is female" is now rather radical to some (maybe even, dare I whisper it ... feminist. There are women who do not consider me female for all sorts of spurious reasons (e.g., I don't have periods: so what? What about the cisgendered women who don't have periods?).
  • I am becoming better at standing up for myself, others and what is "right". There is a staggering amount of prejudice and discrimination that trans people encounter - it is enough for some to get tired of it all and choose to end their lives. That does NOT mean surgery is wrong, it means that SOCIETY is wrong to be bigoted. This process starts fairly early on for those trans people who wish to have surgery, as it is not one's own choice to have surgery: you have to live in the desired gender role, get examined by a panel of shrinks every three months, and then, finally, after two years, if they all agree you're transsexual, and you haven't developed any crucial problems along the way, you can get put on the waiting list (so long as you have the money [difficult when many get sacked at transition] and no physical problems preventing surgery). I actually favour having a thorough assessment procedure, but it could include a little support (which I understand has started in the last decade or so ... ).
  • Associated with the previous point, I have developed greater understanding, sensitivity and empathy for other minority groups (it was always there to some extent, mind, but it has been refined and developed as a result of the hassles I have gone through). I am also (slightly) less conservative: my spiritual beliefs actually tend towards me being fairly conservative, but I've eased up a little. This is also helped by the first point, and both of those points were things that I had to go through because of the mistakes I made in my most recently previous life.
  • One thing I am struggling with is not hating wrongdoers. When I have to bury someone who has committed suicide, or hear of another trans person murdered because they were "different", not hating is hard. I try to manifest my anger in a positive way (for instance, I spent several rewarding but exhausting years involved in activism, which is better than letting myself spiral down into hate. Still, I feel better about not hating the bigots when I see them learning or growing. One point that is very related to this is being aware that we train others how to treat us, so I don't just freely forgive or let others off the hook: if they are indulging in behaviour that I know can kill others, or cripple them emotionally, I will fight them (nonphysically - which means psychically, legally and socially) to the utmost of my ability: they HAVE to change, or they will kill, cripple or main some other human being, maybe not one of my trans siblings, but someone else who may have something the small-minded bigot perceives as "a difference".
I had a few other points when I first meditated on this: I'll add them as I rcall them, if I can.

So ... enjoy your thinking about all this :)

Love, light, hugs and blessings
