Post No. 3,435 - Some (hopefully) interesting reading / viewing / listening

I recently found the following interesting and/or useful, and am posting them here in case anyone else does as well.

  • “How we lost the living Now”   by JA Westenberg   https://www.joanwestenberg.com/how-we-lost-the-living-now/   “Before 1840, noon in Bristol happened about ten minutes after noon in London, and nobody much cared. The railway needed a common minute or it couldn't run - and that common minute is now a common nanosecond, shipped in real time.”

  • “If This Is “Neurotypical” Then You Can KEEP IT!”   https://youtu.be/ZxBU_rn7Wg0   “Under the right conditions autistic people can taste little nuggets of the neurotypical experience we don't normally have any clue about, but what does it feel like? I  went through exactly that earlier this week and I didn't like it!”

  • “The global system has failed. What do we need to do next?”   https://youtu.be/Qy2LhaJoJ6s   “In this video, I argue that the conflict driven by Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing the global economy towards a crisis on the scale of World War II. Not in terms of deaths, but in terms of systemic economic breakdown.   This is not a short-term shock. It is a structural rupture.   The warnings are already being issued. The International Monetary Fund, alongside firms such as Deloitte and EY, are signalling rising recession risk, including in the UK. But the impact will be global.   Supply chains are being disrupted across energy, raw materials and manufacturing. These are not marginal effects. They go to the core of how the modern economy works. Even if the conflict ended tomorrow, the consequences would last for years.   That means hardship. It means poverty. It may mean famine in the most exposed regions, and a refugee crisis on a scale we have not recently seen. In the UK and elsewhere, recession is increasingly likely, and if mishandled, it could become depression.   So what is required?   First, honesty about scarcity. Rationing may be necessary to ensure fair access to essential goods.   Second, protection. Stronger social security will be needed to support those most exposed to the shock.   Third, redistribution. Progressive taxation will be required to sustain that support.   And beyond that, something bigger: reform. The institutions created after World War II — from the World Bank to the World Trade Organization and NATO — were built for a different world. They are failing now.   The deeper issue is this: neoliberalism built a fragile, carbon-dependent global system. That system is now breaking.   If it has failed, what replaces it?”
  • “Anti-Protest Laws Struck Down - Jarrett v NSW”   https://youtu.be/7dNiFyeV6Vk   by Anne Twomey   “This video is about the New South Wales anti-protest laws that were struck down by the NSW Court of Appeal in the case of Jarrett v New South Wales [2026] NSWCA 62.   The video explains the Court's reasoning.  In particular, it focuses on the Court's view that dissent is part and parcel of a democracy and that suppressing political speech, for the purpose of protecting people from exposure to political expression that they might find to be upsetting, inflammatory or divisive, is not a legitimate purpose.   It concludes by observing the importance of tolerance as a civic virtue and an essential element of a representative democracy.”
  • “Long hours, stress and harassment are causing hundreds of thousands of early deaths, says UN labour agency”   https://news.un.org/en/story/2026/04/1167356   “The way that jobs are designed, organised and managed has a major effect on the health and safety of workers, and, according to the study – “The psychosocial working environment: Global developments and pathways for action” – the impact is growing, manifesting itself in rising rates of cardiovascular disease and mental disorders, including suicide”

My article(s) on SubStack:

  • “Justice After Hell: A Few Thoughts”   https://musingsofgnwmythr.substack.com/p/justice-after-hell-a-few-thoughts   “Ruminations by an Aussie who is NOT a legal expert”   Eventually, all tyrants fall, but merely removing a leader does not dismantle existing power structures. As such, when the current ruling class in the USA loses power, justice as well as political changes will need to be considered. Unlike the military Nuremberg trials, the USA is unlikely to face foreign-imposed trials or reparations. The Frankfurt Auschwitz trials (1963-1968) serve as a pertinent historical example for potential US trials, as they were conducted under existing German laws at the time of offences. No new legal frameworks are expected to be in place for similar trials in the USA. Current state trials have begun, avoiding issues related to federal executive clemency but requiring extensive efforts to ensure comprehensive justice across the country.. Current state trials avoid Federal Executive clemency issues, though they require considerable effort to ensure justice across the country and must avoid missteps that could undermine their success. These trials will need to address serious crimes beyond murder, focusing on large-scale injustices such as deaths resulting from mass deportations. The ultimate goal is to recover stolen resources for reparations and rebuilding efforts, necessitating courage and commitment to justice. There is also concern whether ICE's practices have been adequately addressed through legal frameworks, and whether the USA has an adequate number and capacity of legal officers to pursue these cases effectively.

Possible flaws

Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:

  • there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan  Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”
  • I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).

Post No. 3,272 - Some random thoughts

Photo by TONG KBP on Unsplash
(a stone temple tower rises into a soft blue sky with clouds, and trees on the left foreground)

This is a quick post to keep things happening on the blog while I try to get the time and energy to deal with multiple other issues ...

Firstly, what is the attraction ofoNietzsche?

I have never understood that - N seems to me to be just singing the praises of strength without any morals or ethics, which makes the advocacy selfish, self-centred, and inherently destructive of community.

(This was prompted by a passing reference to N in a news article I will likely be including in this weeks coming reflections post.)

Another news report I will be including is on Australia’s defence forces not kicking out a far right person for an extended period of time after discovery. The command said they don’t tolerate such extremism, but their actions clearly do, so ... do they have a problem with having been infiltrated by the far right at some levels?

That sort of infiltration was raised a few years ago as a concern with regard to police, and both organisations have an external perception of being authoritarian - which is not entirely correct (e.g., see here), but if that perception exists it may draw those with a weakness towards far right extremism.

And, in addition, there is deliberate development of military/paramilitary mindsets.

That, combined withopoliceotacticsowhich appearoto protecton_ z_s, and the presence of some police & military in far right extremist actions overseas in recent years (which must be offset by the larger number who are acting against right wing extremism - both in their duties and personally) raises a question:

how informed, nuanced, and accurate is theocommandohierarchy’sounderstanding of:   hate speech vs free speech,   what constitutes a threat to the members of minority groups,   infiltration (especially historical),   and   how to protect democracies and what a democracy is?

I fear most western nations are failing their citizens with inadequate military and paramilitary command structures ...

Mainstream media are mostly lost to either right wing infiltration and/or incompetence, and progressive political parties are showing similar failings to those of the military/paramilitary command structures.

One of the most transphobic media outlets once requested (a few years ago now) that I discuss which of two conspiracy fantasies "explained" what they amathiacally considered an explosion in the number of trans people. Naturally, I ignored the request (long experience - don't step into a trap, especially a baited trap ... if you want to cover the issues, find another platform, one that is competent and at least neutral)

And as far as political parties go, I recently came across an article (which I haven't been able to find again) which said the reason fascists/n_ z_s/"the far right"/"the radical right"/"the extreme right" were so vehement in attacking trans people was that it enrages their supporter base, but left most uninformed and uncaring people unmoved ...

It is the gap that is significant to them - and on that, too many police and supposedly progressive politicians are too incompetent/amathiac to even notice, let alone be decent enough as human beings to care.

For the record, note that the Lemkin Institute published a   “Statement on the Genocidal Nature of the Gender Critical Movement’s Ideology and Practice”   https://www.lemkininstitute.com/statements-new-page/statement-on-the-genocidal-nature-of-the-gender-critical-movement%E2%80%99s-ideology-and-practice , and an updated and re-released Red Flag Alert for the United States on the Anti-Trans Agenda of the Trump Administration   https://www.lemkininstitute.com/red-flag-alerts/red-flag-alert-for-the-anti-trans-agenda-of-the-trump-administration-in-the-united-states

Transphobia is often murderous - either through direct violence or hate driving people to suicide; gender critical ideology is genocidal.

Going back to politicians, I am gravely concerned at what appear to be attempts by our (Australia's) PM to gain the favour of the USA's leader ...

That leader is anti-democratic, pro-hate, and of questionable health and unquestioned unfitness for his role - and we're heading down an out-Chamberlain Chamberlain pathway ...

On the other hand, I sat in on a good meeting this evening about political resistance to hate and fascism.
