Post No. 3,506 - What do warriors do in a post conflict society?

Spiritual - and personal/moral - evolution leads to number of advantageous outcomes, and one of those is (or should be) a reduction in all forms of conflict as collaborative resolution becomes the norm, rather than drama, quests for social status, sadism/narcissism/etc. 

That reduction will also include a reduction in war - in fact, an elimination of intra-planetary war. 

When that happens, there is a question about what to do with former soldiers. 

Some will still be needed for defence, but those that are not will need to be integrated into society - which is a major aspect of things like ending the decades of war, often entangled with drugs or blood minerals, in some regions around the world (regions which could have been rich if their resources were used properly, for the benefit of the people of those regions).  

This includes economic challenges such as finding jobs for everyone, social justice issues such as the utterly essential accountability (on ALL sides - and there can be many more than two) for past abuses, and dealing with trauma (including of civilians) from both the experience of war, and training for war, which can be incredibly psychologically, morally, and spiritually damaging. 

This also applies to nonphysical conflicts, such as the current world struggle against fascism, neoliberalism, a and the ultra-rich elites of the world: one day that war will be won by us, the ultra-rich elites will disappear, and healing society will include all the matters raised above. 

Now, at this point I want to point out that this article wasn’t inspired by consideration of physical events, but by some channelled comments by ETs about “warrior species” - which may be the biases of the medium, but, be that as it may, the topic is still going to be valid for us - or, more accurately, those of us who survive the climate crisis and are alive in a few centuries. 

From the point of view of the now former warrior, what they do now, in war cursed cultures, is (as a generic simplification): 

(1) try to survive the adaptation back to civvies; 

(2) try to heal; 

(3) face a personal choice: either try to build/rebuild, or try protection/security to try to justify what they have been through 

What they do when the violent conflict is gone is (as a generic simplification): 

(1) adapt to the change; 

(2) heal as best they can; 

(3) do something to build OR take the protection/security role into the nonphysical (protection can be against the innocently disharmonious - not all “war” is against evil).  

And, in all cases, during the conflict, IF possible, keep some focus on minimising the trauma - especially the moral injury, and do what damage control can be done now. 

That last point applies to those doing the work of this blog.
