Post No. 3,187 - On the benefits of strong, courageous, and EARLY action

Part of my reading material at the moment includes “The War in the West - A New History: Volume 1: Germany Ascendant 1939-1941 (War in the West a New History)” by James Holland (pub. Transworld Digital, 2015,  ISBN 978-1448167029; Penguin, Kobo, Amazon) - I have a strong interest in history, although I am finding the history chapter of  Mitch  Horowitz’s   “Practical Magick: Ancient Tradition and Modern Practice” (pub. Gildan Media LLC, 2025,   ISBN 978-1-7225-2781-5;   Kobo,  Barnes & Noble,   Readings,   Apple Books,   Amazon),   both interesting, as it brings in new information, and heavy going * , as I have read so much on that topic over the years I have reached a state of being ... overfull ...

From James Holland’s book:

“It was clear to Warlimont that the main purpose of H_t l_r’s speech was to convince his generals of the rightness of his decision, and assure them Britain and France would keep out. The F_h r_r’s confidence was based on a number of factors, not least his experiences back in March when German troops had marched into Czechoslovakia unopposed. He had been braced then for a more dramatic response from the Western democracies, and yet he had got away with it. He had been getting away with it for years”

“The carefully orchestrated parades, the even more carefully managed showreels of German troops and tanks and skies thick with aircraft, were, to a very large extent, a projection of military might rather than representative of the reality. Germany was by no means ready for all-out war. It did not have enough tanks, vehicles or trained soldiers, and certainly not enough natural resources, to carry out anything more than a short, sharp campaign against a massively inferior enemy: Germany possessed little iron ore, no oil, no copper, tungsten, bauxite or rubber, and, crucially, did not have enough land, sufficiently farmed, to fulfil the food requirements of both the population and a massive military.”

I have written previously - on this and my former political blog - about the importance of early and timely intervention (I will add links over the next few days);   I have been supportive of the calls for activism against oppression - particularly over the last decade or so, notably in the USA;   and   I have been aware of the benefits of studying history (I will add a link to an excellent book written by a group of historians on this over the next few days) and of seeing how past disasters could have been averted (especially around World War (part) One)   ...   but I don’t recall an example which ties all this together so clearly.

James Holland’s book also states that the UK’s and France’s combined militaries were larger/more forceful than Germany’s.

There were critical flaws in the UK and France, but we were so much closer to preventing World War (part) Two than I realised ...

And the lesson for me now, out of all this, is of the importance of being BPM moral/ethical, and taking action against oppression, backwardness/reactionariness, and evil whenever one can.

So ... courage, and do what you can: the enemies of decency may be closer to failure than we realise.

PS - to be clear, I have been very much aware of the dangers of appeasement - for most of life, and of the views about the UK rearming (including John F Kennedy's argument that the UK wasn't sleeping but buying time to rearm), and of the strong preference for peace of the population of the UK - but not at any price; what is new to me is the possibility that war was so close being prevented (or being preventable) in the last few months before it started.

 * As I've progressed further through Mitch Horowitz's book, I am finding it pursues an approach to magic - left hand path - that I rejected a couple of decades ago. I may not finish the book ...

Possible flaws

Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:

  • there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan  Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
  • I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.

Post No. 579 – The past and next week, for tonight’s meditation and reading

What a week.

A highlight is now having a skip load of rubbish from a clean out ready to be collected. It is good to do things like that (after five years here for me and nine for my partner, and the moving out of her children, we were well and truly ready for that:), and some of the stuff I am getting rid of will assist me in moving on from some past periods of my life, as well as just enabling a clearing of stagnant energy.

A low point is someone who I have the misfortune to work with complaining that another culture lives differently during one of THEIR religious periods. Still, in the course of communicating to our HR department about that, I came across this excellent site. The truly staggering thing about having to sit near that person is that it came about as a result of a rearrangement of the office during which a former manager of mine thought that we would all get along swimmingly. Maybe he thought that being in the same sort of (advanced) age group would somehow outweigh the arguments I had heard that person and I having over various topics, but more likely, he just either wasn’t observant or didn’t actually think correctly about the situation.

He had thought, that’s true enough, but he hadn’t thought CORRECTLY: he had thought the matter through solely from the point of view of what was important to himself, rather than, as the old saying goes, putting himself in another’s shoes.

That sort of sloppy, lazy or ineffectual thinking underlies MANY of the problems of the Western/industrialised world. I’ve been watching the excellent (well, the first episode was … After loading skips I have to watch the second on catch up TV … ) series “The Men Who Make Us Spend” (see here also for another review of it; I can’t find any useful link on the BBC, which originally screened it – apparently they don’t make their programmes available to anyone else in the world), and reflecting on the fact that one of the reasons Australia has such generally poor politicians is because voters fail to think properly and effectively about many issues. (It's also why a lot of people foolishly put personal convenience ahead of internet safety, and expediency ahead of 'right living' ... )

As an example of that last point, ever since the evil John Howard, Australia’s Governments have been exploiting the politics of fear to get support for their policies of abusing the victims of war and persecution who had been seeking a better future for their kids by becoming refugees. Australia now, in my opinion, is nearly as guilty as the original nations these people are fleeing in terms of human rights abuses. The response they’ve introduced in the last couple of years that this is allegedly about safety, introduced, in my opinion, in response to criticism, is utterly nonsensical.

Their actions are akin to addressing safety problems in the workplace by preventing workers going to work.

Their actions are, in my opinion, in breach of international Law – including things like SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea [2] ), and have been ever since the Tampa affair.

This disrespect for international Law continues under Tony Abbott, with breaches of Indonesia’s sovereignty.

Now, most activists approach this issue on the basis of compassion for refugees, and target politicians. That is admirable, but I don’t think entirely effective, as the people who REALLY have to change on this is the voters who put those politicians in. When activists can go into blue collar areas, such as The Pines, where I used to live, and have arguments about employment and sovereignty THAT EFFECTIVELY ADDRESS THESE ISSUES FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF THOSE OTHER PEOPLE, then we will be able to start making Australia a genuinely better place to live.

Of course, activists don’t have the resources to do that, so we’re back to politicians, or perhaps the media, but:
(a) politicians are seeking to immorally constrain the media (see here), and
(b) some sections of the media pander to the lowest common denominator (see, for instance, here, here and here).

Ultimately, the solution is to teach kids to think properly, which is why I am such a fan of Brendan Myers’ “Clear and Present Thinking”.

What is it going to take to have that introduced? And how long will that take?

I don’t know, so in the meantime, I will keep working on, as the saying in my signature bloc says, having the world of business and commerce remember that it is a SERVANT of the community, not a dictator of what society should be.

Now let’s turn to the topic of peace, and tonight’s meditation.

I mentioned sending energy to sections of Africa in recent posts. Well, there’s been a plane crash there this week. I could say that the energy didn’t work (possibly because the quantity or quality of energy was inadequate), or … it could be that the energy has helped people transition, or has and will help with the response.

Most times I do this nothing happens that I know of, and I simply have to persist, trusting that the direction to do so has made some sort of appreciable difference – hopefully preventative.

An on prevention, this article gives some useful information about the value of prevention in terms of world disasters. On the other hand, this article by an excellent media person who I respect, points out the limits many people feel on empathy.

I’m not going to recommend any specific topics or matters to consider tonight, other than to point out that there has been a focus on MH17 in Western media to the exclusion of other problems, including the two other plane crashes, one into another war zone, the other into a suburb.

The rest of the world still bleeds – not just the Middle East, where there has been an escalation of violence, but many other places as well. The Ebola outbreak in West Africa continues, famine is imminent in South Sudan, and so on.

On other matters, I think this post was a clumsily written (the word ‘pathology’ in the heading is inflammatory), and missed the issues of unearned advantage (‘privilege’) and social power, but has a point that is worth thinking about. I gained most food for thought from the comments. The original person tarred all Pagans with the same brush, and failed to acknowledge those neochristians who also seek attention. In terms of the response, it reminds me a situation around a gathering some years ago where I wanted to provide education about an excluded group, and was overtaken by someone taking legal action. Education is fine if you have the time and energy, but many people get tired and worn out, and may find others are slow to pick up the burden.

There was a suggestion by someone this week that workers do three 11-hour days, and then have a four day weekend.

What a load of rot. This was clearly developed by someone who doesn’t have kids or housework to contend with, and no interest in stress management or spirituality.Possibly the suggestion was as a result of psychic influence by entities wanting to increase control over people ... On that, I watched a TV show about Robert F Kennedy this week, and the vagueness of RFK's assassin could be viewed as:
 - attempting to deny what one had done, a little like a guilty toddler may deny something with a view to making a parent believe they didn't do it;
 - a legal ploy to avoid the death sentence;
 - the result of hypnotic conditioning, the line taken by the programme, or
 - possession * .
I'm not going to bother to ask my Patron Deities/Higher Self/BPLF Guides which it was: there are more important matters to attend to.

As a final point, here is a wonderful story about getting kids to connect with Nature.

 * The solution for this would be for other people to (spirit) 'rescue' the possessing entity, and the possessed person to learn about psychic protection. The prevention is for more rescue and psychic education and self protection generally ...

Post No. 415 - Bushfires [Content Warning: bushfires, harm/harmful actions, links to distressing news stories]

A few years ago, my home state of Victoria had some major  bushfires [2]: we're apparently looking at having another bad season [3], so I've decided to post a ritual I came up with a few years ago to try and prevent or minimise bushfires. Obviously, this can be used for other places as well - just use it with the intention of preventing bushfires elsewhere.

This ritual is to seek to minimise damage from bushfires, by
- seeking to minimise the chance of bushfires occurring, including by asking wind and rain to help, and by trying to get arsonists to grow to an awareness which leads to them not lighting fires
- making sure those who have the duty of looking after the bush to prevent bushfires or of fighting bushfires do so properly, and
- helping all people to appreciate ALL the various forms of life in the wild places.

The core of the ritual is five chants, one to each quarter, and one for the centre (repeat each as many times as feels comfortable):
(Southern hemisphere - north; Northern hemisphere - south)
“Artemis[4], Baba Yaga[5], Pachamama[6] and Cernunnos[7],
help us connect to the wild places
- show us all the beauty of all the life there,
human, animal, plant or mineral,
help all who touch these places,
to truly know and care for them,
for their own innate worth.”
(east)
“Brigid[8], Maeve[9] and Isis,
inspire and help all those who care for the bush or fight bushfires,
let them fulfil their duties with passion and inspiration;
and inspire and heal those tempted to do harm
to such responsibility and caring
that they can NOT commit such sacrilege,
but may Ma’at[10] bring swiftly to justice all who do.”
(Southern hemisphere - south; Northern hemisphere - north)
“Nu Kua[11], bringer of order to chaos,
bring your ordered way to the wild places;
let the rains fall and the winds blow when and where they are needed;
Durga[12], protector against demons,
set boundaries on any fires which may occur,
and protect the wild places from the demon “bushfire”;
Cerridwen[13], transform all harm and damage done into growth: death into rebirth.”
(west)
“Gyhldeptis[14],
we call on you to help synthesise all these threads,
love, responsibility, inspiration, justice;
ordered rain and wind, protective boundaries, transformation;
help these many ways become one great whole,
for the good of all the wild places, and all the wild life.
throughout this coming bushfire season and beyond.”
[15]
(centre)
”Artemis, Baba Yaga, Pachamama, Cernunnos,
Let us love the wild places;
Brigid, Maeve, Isis and Ma’at,
Heal and inspire responsibility and justice;
Nu Kua, Durga and Cerridwen,
Tame, bound and transform the demon bushfire;
Gyhldeptis,
Bring all this together.”

Proposed Order of Service:
Most rituals consists of 5 major parts, which you will notice below are segmented into the five elements.  Air, Fire, Water, Earth and Spirit, but not in that order.  Each Elemental correspondence has its own unique role within the ritual.

In most cases they are broken down as follows:
·         East – Air – Athame – Opening – This is the basis of preparation, introduction of the ceremony.
·         South – Fire – Wand -  Invocations – This is the basis of invocations, prayers of the ceremony.
·         West – Water – Chalice -  Offerings – This is the time of offerings, libations, and honour
·         North – Earth – Pentacle – Closing – This is the time of devocation and opening of the circle.

THE RITUAL

AIR - EAST OPENING

Clear and Release.
Cleanse salt, water, incense and fire.
Charge salt, water, incense and fire.
Cast Circle

FIRE - SOUTH Invocations

Invoke the Four Quarters  (optional / depending on type of ritual)
Invoke the Goddess  (optional / depending on type of ritual)
Invoke the God  (optional / depending on type of ritual)
Invoke your Patron Deity (optional / depending on type of ritual)
Invoke the Ancestors  (optional / depending on type of ritual)

SPIRIT - CENTRE Ritual

This is the main body of the ritual. The actual purpose of the ceremony is presented here. This can be for initiation, healing, dedication, or any other purpose. The statement of intents, and the act of powers are also performed at this time, depending greatly on the ceremony.

(Southern hemisphere - north; Northern hemisphere - south)
“Artemis, Baba Yaga, Pachamama and Cernunnos,
help us connect to the wild places
- show us all the beauty of all the life there,
human, animal, plant or mineral,
help all who touch these places,
to truly know and care for them,

(east)
“Brigid, Maeve and Isis,,

let them fulfil their duties with passion and inspiration;
and inspire and heal those tempted to do harm
to such responsibility and caring
that they can NOT commit such sacrilege,
but may Ma’at bring swiftly to justice all who do.”
(Southern hemisphere - south; Northern hemisphere - north)
“Nu Kua, bringer of order to chaos,
bring your ordered way to the wild places;
let the rains fall and the winds blow when and where they are needed;
Durga, protector against demons,
set boundaries on any fires which may occur,
and protect the wild places from the demon “bushfire”;
Cerridwen, transform all harm and damage done into growth: death into rebirth.”
(west)
“Gyhldeptis,
we call on you to help synthesise all these threads,
love, responsibility, inspiration, justice;
ordered rain and wind, protective boundaries, transformation;
help these many ways become one great whole,
for the good of all the wild places, and all the wild life.
throughout this coming bushfire season and beyond.”

Brigid, Maeve, Isis and Ma’at,
Heal and inspire responsibility and justice;
Nu Kua, Durga and Cerridwen,
Tame and bound the demon bushfire;
Gyhldeptis,
Bring all this together.”

WATER - WEST Offering

This is traditionally done with a chalice of juice, wine or water passed around the company within the circle AFTER the dedicationary offering has been completed.

Then it is common practice to pour out a small libation, and dedicate that to your Ancestors, physical and spiritual, and to all your friends in Nature, seen and unseen.

Dedicate what remains in the Chalice to the Goddess and the God.

(After the ritual, the libations may be emptied outside, or otherwise respectfully disposed of.)

NORTH - PENTACLE Closing

It is now time to give thanks, and close the ritual.

Devoke the Ancestors  (optional, depending on type of ritual)
Devoke your Patron Deity (optional, depending on type of ritual)
Devoke the God  (optional, depending on type of ritual)
Devoke the Goddess  (optional, depending on type of ritual)
Devoke the Four Quarters  (optional, depending on type of ritual)

Take down the Circle itself. You might say something like the Traditional;
“As Above, So Below. As the Universe, so the Soul. As within, so without. Merry meet. Merry part. And merry meet again.”

And as always - clear and release all excess energy.
