Post No. 593 - Initiations of Nations

Groups of people tend, over time, to build up a Group Mind. That can be done intentionally and relatively quickly (maybe months or years), with a deliberately formed group (e.g., a club, Coven/Temple, circle, or 'intentional community' - or the 'pilgrims' on the "Mayflower"), or unintentionally and more slowly (decades or centuries), as happens with towns, cities and nations.

People who come to one of those places will, if they wish to 'fit in', eventually be part of that established Group Mind. If they don't wish to 'fit in', others who are a comfortable part of the Group Mind will unconsciously sense a strangeness about those new people, and be hostile towards them. If those new, not-fitting-in people are strong enough and persistent enough, it may be that they can change the established Group Mind to something that is accommodating to both established people and newcomers. This can also happen if the new people are simply considered too different by the Group Mind - which is what manifests in the physical as racism, which is a sign that the Group Mind needs to be healed / helped to grow.

People who willingly leave such places tend to fairly quickly and automatically sever their psychic connections to the Group Mind, although, if they were particularly troublesome to it, the Group Mind may well indulge in psychic attack.

Now, from time to time, those groups, and their associated Group Mind, may undergo what I choose to refer to as an Initiation - in the broadest sense, which includes a personal test of some significance (see here for something I've written on this). In a sense, the World as a whole underwent such an initiation test in 1914 - and failed. My nation, Australia, has failed - and continues to fail - exactly such an initiatory test in relation to our indigenous people, and refugees.

The world as a whole is also failing the current initiations in relation to environmental issues (which should be sub-titled "survival of humanity/the planet") and matters such as poverty and inequity/discrimination generally.

On a more constructive note, the world largely passed (well, maybe a conceded pass) the test created by the existence and activity of the Nazi's.

The USA currently has one such initiatory test (well, a couple at least, actually, but I'll focus on this one) before it: how it chooses to respond to the revelations about torture of people after the terrible events of '9/11'.

President Obama has urged that the torturers be not judged harshly - and certainly their actions would be supported by many people, even now. But the issue remains as to what you are trying to defend, and whether your actions undermine that.

One of the most powerful arguments against the death penalty, in my view, is that governments should be aiming to teach that life is valuable, and should demonstrate that - and taking life when there are other options is not demonstrating a respect for the sanctity of life. There are circumstances when taking a life is necessary - for instance, in the heat of battle during which a terrorist is aiming to take as man lives or harm as many people as he or she can (although, even then, one's conduct can be becoming or unbecoming ... ), but as a matter of a fair and just trial where a criminal has been arrested and brought to justice through proper, due course and the death penalty would be imposed deliberately - coldly, if you will, then the consideration needs to be made:
in the long term, what is going to send the greatest message to respect life: keeping someone alive, despite their harm or even evil, or indulging in short term actions that temporarily seem to satiate a crowd's blood lust ... until next time when they roar even louder?
That question is loaded with emotive wording and bias, of course - mine. I will, furthermore, add that my perspective is that souls are indestructible, and thus killing someone is pain and fear and hatred is only more likely to create a rebirth of that person in those such energies - it doesn't help heal or remedy anything. In fact, it likely feeds the uncooperatives who are inevitably drawn to such people and events.

So, in the context of the USA and its current deliberations, does the reduction of loss of life and damage to property outweigh the harm that is done by torturing people and then covering that up for a decade?

I'm not going to answer that question directly, but I will add a few other points for consideration:
  1. maturity is, in my view, a key necessity in being able to consider this issue properly;
  2. I've already mentioned the issue of stopping people who are actively harming others (which most people seem to think of from the physical perspective, but it also covers emotional, mental, financial, spiritual and psychic - e.g., uncooperatives), but I also favour - with qualifications (e.g., staying alive if one has responsibilities for dependents, or so one can be part of a resistance, etc) the view that it is better to die on one's feet than live on one's knees;
  3. some commentators seem to be of the view that the actions of the USA and its allies (including Australia) have helped drive people towards terrorism (incidentally, both Australia and the USA have had problems with terrorism before 9/11 - e.g., the Hilton bombing here in 1978, and perhaps the 'Battle of Broken Hill' in 1915, and the Oklahoma City Bombing [I found the children who were killed in that latter particularly disturbing]); and
  4. I suspect that future kids will not play 'doctors and nurses' so much as 'TSA agent and passenger' ... and others have posted about people who are not using air travel because of 'security' measures - see here.
Now, my opinion on this is clear from the above, I think. The point is: what is your considered and properly informed view? Are you prepared to allow others to have different views, or do you want to control them (psychic or otherwise) - or is there an extent to allowed disagreement (e.g., allow different views unless they are advocating violence)?

There are other nations undergoing such initiations as well - Israel, Gaza, Ukraine, Russia, several in Africa, and so on. When you've finished thinking about my question in the context I've posed. put yourself into these various other situations and rethink it.

Post No. 542 - the Strength Required of a Servant of the Goddesses/Gods/Light

I made an informed, genuine, serious and credible decision to work for the Goddesses/Gods/Light when I was a teenager, a few years after I had decided to make sure I used my anger rather than letting my anger use me. That was around 40 years ago, now, and it has not been an easy decision.

It's not just the internal doubts and struggles that everyone has, it's also that, as soon as one makes such a decision, other people try to tear you down - to pick upon every flaw as if "that proves she's no better than anyone else". Of course a Servant to the Goddesses/Gods/Light isn't better than others - they're trying to better themselves, which inherently involves an acknowledgement of flaws and faults. And yet so many cretins set themselves up as having the right to prove that others are as flawed as the self appointed would-be tester cretins are - and, if they succeed in causing the would be Servant to the Goddesses/Gods/Light to stumble, to be angry, or depressed, or frustrated, the cretins crow that they have 'proven' something, namely, that the Servant to the Goddesses/Gods/Light is 'no better than' the self appointed would-be tester cretin.

Rubbish.

In actual fact, by simply making the decision to try, the Servant to the Goddesses/Gods/Light is immediately better than the self appointed would-be tester cretins.

Furthermore, the self appointed would-be tester cretins are - if their effect is strong enough - guilty of robbing the world of someone who is trying to make the world a better place.

Has the Servant to the Goddesses/Gods/Light failed?

Yes.

Are they guilty in some way?

No, only to the extent of having tried too much perhaps: the bulk of the guilt, and ALL the negative karma, lies with self appointed would-be tester cretins.

All of it - every single bit of negative karma from every single bit of suffering that could have been eased by the Servant to the Goddesses/Gods/Light had a fair go, lies with the self appointed would-be tester cretins.

It takes a lot of strength to be a Servant to the Goddesses/Gods/Light. I know from personal experience. Sadly, it seems that many such have to work either on their own, or with limited help and support, as well as dealing with surviving or getting by in today's world. In the last 40 years, I've had decent help for about 3 of those years - and less than a dozen people have been anywhere near me in terms of commitment.

So ... what does that mean?

It means that being a Servant to the Goddesses/Gods/Light requires strength - lots and lots of strength: moral strength, spiritual strength, emotional resilience, and, above all else, PSYCHIC strength (physical wellbeing helps as well).

Post No. 449 - A Saturday morning's reflections ...

When I started down the path of serious use of psychic abilities (for the purpose of making the world a better place), I was told that it is not possible to use these powers for financial self gain.

Well, that's not quite true: I've never been able to use this for personal gain, other than charging people for some of the help I've given, so I haven't, for example, got any major lottery wins (hmmm ... actually, I can't recall even trying that one), but I've seen someone who was a gambling addict use, or try to use, a modest amount of psychic ability he had to influence the pokies. He had no major wins, but my impression is that he would occasionally have a minor win as a result of his efforts. (I also have seen, incidentally, two people lose their homes through the pokies, so I would not recommend trying this!)

I've also met people who have had wins at the pokies and on the lottery (same person - she bought a house with the first lottery win, and a house for her daughter with the second, but kept working - not enough won to give up that, and would continue to have occasional wins of a few thousand dollars on the pokies). She is not psychic, nor even particularly spiritual, so what gives?

Well, I think what gives is that people (a) get opportunbities sometimes as a test to see what they will do with them, and (b) sometimes seem to be very lucky as that is how they have chosen to have their (good) karma return to them. I'm happy to have my good karma return to me in the place and circumstances of my birth, etc, rather than through winning riches which may mean I later don't have enough good karma to prevent, say, a major cancer.

No doubt that winning karma could be useful, but getting a better job (less stress, rather than more money) would probably be more apt than a lotto win.

I still feel that use of any psychic ability to change the Universe so that I get money through a win would be wrong. In much the same way that I like candles to the rune Fehu for the financial well being of my family, perhaps it is a case of this being a test of other people's caring ... I am a little more inclined towards this being the same as the reason I don't interfere with the weather too much: if I, say, make it rain where I live, that may stop people who have a greater need for water from getting the rain they needed. If I actively manifest money for me through something like a lottery win, is that perhaps stopping a family where no-one has a job getting a much needed win for, perhaps, a child who has an illness?

There is an element of not being too focused on oneself here, which leads me to a very interesting post I came across recently on how to classify or explain paganism in terms of whether the focus is on the person, nature or the deities. Well worth a read: http://allergicpagan.wordpress.com/2012/05/23/the-three-or-more-centers-of-paganism/.

I have to say, sometimes I read some of these brilliant posts and feel somewhat intimidated about my own, ad hoc, patchy, casual, this-is-me-struggling-with-my-life-at-times blog ... ah well, that's nothing a block or two of chocolate won't fix :) Here are a few more links:

Now, I am working on a post which will be an alternative, pagan focused history of the world. I'm not quite done, and it will be a separate post, but here's what I've come up with so far:

Let's tell a history of the world ...

Once upon time Spirit / The Goddess decided to do some more learning / growing, for which more experience was necessary. The problem was that in "the void" / the astral, everything was in harmony - you were automatically close to those who were on the same wave length as yourself, and never came across anyone who was different. So, Spirit / The Goddess decided, in the interests of learning, to create a world where it was possible to be in the presence of those you were in disharmony with.

It was quite a novel concept, and, if it worked as intended, should strengthen the unity of the Universe / The Goddess, as all the disparate bits of the Universe / The Goddess would be better able to tolerate/accept and work with the other bits of the Universe / The Goddess. It would be quite a step forward for the disparate bits to even be aware of each other, for a start.

So Spirit / The Goddess went ahead and created this physical level of reality. It was a bit of a bang of an event, actually, but lets skip ahead to when one little part of this physical reality, the Planet Earth, was developing a bipedal organism with the capacity to shape the environment and, eventually, move off the planet and thus survive any future planetary killing asteroids. For reasons based on the nature of the rules that Spirit / The Goddess had created as part of this physical reality, the bipedal organism used two sexes to reproduce, thereby mixing bits of the parental organisms and allowing change which, when successful, would lead to evolution. When unsuccessful, the change would become a candidate for a Darwin Award ...

All well and good, except for the short sightedness - metaphorically, as their physical eyesight (and other senses) was quite outstanding at that time - of the bipeds, who started building up all sorts of rules around - well, nothing, really.

At the time that the bipeds were developing all these rules, they were living as gatherer-hunters. There weren't very many of them, and they were feeling fairly insecure about that lack, so they decided to set about making sure there would be lots more of them. It took what they thought was a fairly long time for a new biped to be born after conception, so they started building up their rules around protecting what they would later refer to, when they domesticated other lifeforms, as "breeding stock".

Of course, in doing so, they started losing some of the tolerance of diversity that was the whole point of this physical reality coming into existence, but sometimes you just can't argue with a biped that is armed with a sharp stick, a thick head and not too much in the way of grunts.

Some of them were really struggling with this whole being-in-contact-with-things-that-weren't-in-harmony-with-them thing, and started behaving quite badly. Some of it was petty - jealousy and the like; some of it was worse, and included attempts at changing or controlling others, which led to some quite nasty behaviours that would later be described - when the bipeds had extended their range of grunts to include this particular sequence of sounds - as "evil". Those attempts at changing or controlling others included the formation of stereotypes - some of which were based on generalities, but all of which failed to take account of the wonderful diversity that is one of the key wonders of this Universe generally, including this physical reality and life as sub-sets of the Universe which also feature diversity as one of their key wonders.

This was most noticeable, perhaps, with regard to those bipeds who had the view that bipeds who could potentially bear bipedlets should not be hunting, they should gathering and grunting in a coo-like manner over bipedlets, whether they wanted to or not. Maybe this was part of the whole problem of bits of Spirit getting put into physical bodies which could, for want of a better term, die - they started looking at the surface, rather than the Spirit.

Of course it wasn't helped by those potentially-bipedlet-bearing-bipeds who decided they rather liked the idea of being looked after, and got quite pernickety, despite that word not having been invented yet, and started frowning upon - and worse - other potentially-bipedlet-bearing-bipeds who wanted to do outrageous things like hunting. And everyone frowned upon - and worse - those bipeds who couldn't potentially bear bipedlets who didn't want to hunt.

That didn't apply everywhere, though. From time to time, various groups of bipeds would "get it together", as some future bipeds would grunt, and be tolerant of difference, and maybe do things like domesticate fire, refine the manufacture and use of tools, domesticate quadrupeds, "invent" agriculture, and domesticate other bipeds - also known as "invent civilisation", which can be rather nice when done well.

Of course, sadly, at this time bipeds also started to discover that sometimes you just can't argue with a biped that is armed with a sharp stick, a thick head and not too much in the way of grunts - and promptly started attempting to do exactly that, with much effort devoted to getting sharper or bigger sticks and things like rocks, and recording or worshipping or both whatever biped had won what they would later refer to as "war". Groups of bipeds also even refined their grunts into languages so they could fail to understand other groups of bipeds entirely.

Now, one of the aspects of reality is that of a spiritual hierarchy: as well as The Goddess, there are gods and goddesses of varying experience and power. There are also manus in charge of groups and spirits in places, and the larger Spirit that inhabits the planet itself, called by some Sanat Kumara and by others Gaea. It's all a bit like a public service bureacracy, except this one works and is user friendly - largely. One of the gods, a Canaanite hill spirit originally, would get quite uppity and have himself declared The One True God, and try to get all the other gods and goddesses kicked out of this particular planet, but that's a little down the track.

All very confusing, and what makes it worse - and is not widely known - is that all these gods and goddesses and manus and spirits are also, as with the bipeds and quadrupeds and non-peds in this physical level of reality, learning and growing. In fact, you may recall that this whole mess was created because Spirit / The Goddess wanted to do a bit more growing/learning. Sadly, growth and learning is not always at a constant rate, nor even always in the right direction ... In fact, it got to the stage where one group of bipeds, a few centuries before the Caananite hill spirit who had got all uppity warped the work of a very evolved soul who incarnated as a Jewish lad, decided to sack the whole working and user friendly bureaucracy and try something they called "Buddhism".

It is to be wondered whether or not at times various gods/goddesses/The Goddess/Spirit would wonder about scratching out all this lot, and trying again ... hmmm ... maybe they did, and found that they have to try to make it work or the bipeds will keep on making the same mistakes ...

It is known that some bipeds thought about scratching out all this lot from time to time, and some of the few vaguely almost justifiable conflicts have been against those who tried to do this, or to assert control in a nasty way over other bipeds.

Post No. 373 - More stuff

Well, I have now achieved the equivalent of a Second Degree Wiccan initiation, in the tradition known as the Tel'Ennyn Asur. I am pleased, and am looking forward to my work in this tradition. And now, back to work ...

I don't have much for this post - I'm still busy elsewhere, and am trying to write up client reports, so I'll just give a few links for reading.
And this is a bit of a pffft to the young 'uns :)
but there are some serious issues to be considered around younger people:
on education and religion:
and one about a controversial and, in my opinion, poorly thought through paper:
A couple on media:
(as someone in minority groups who have suffered at the hands of the media, and seen how ineffectual current "safeguards" are, I do favour increased accountability, but I would ALSO favour making sure the level of critical thinking generally improves, and consider sites such as "The Conversation", at http://theconversation.edu.au/, to be essential for such purposes)

Other news articles (remember I don't necessarily agree with ANYTHING I post a link to: the purpose of the posting is to stimulate, dear Reader, thought):

Post No. 024 - Them and us [Content Warning: harm, bigotry, judgementalism, harm / abuse including SA]

One of the aspects I found quite enlightening about Buddhism is the notion of integrating our darker self: those parts of ourself that we do not like or want to admit. This has also carried through into my experience of Wicca, where I've encountered it under the term "shadow work".

This view is quite refreshing when looking at the hard line "us and them" mentality of quite a few people I've met with respect to criminals. The attitude seems to be "I could never be like that". Well, I have to question that. OK, so maybe it would take a lot more than just a moment or two, or a month, or maybe even a year in someone else's shoes before you snapped and wound up like them: but if you genuinely grew up in an abusive environment where everyone took law breaking and violence as the norm, would you REALLY be so inspired that you could reject all that social conditioning and rise above it? I'd be happy with a genuine yes that only involved you breaking free of that yourself: you don't have to be a Bishop Desmond Tutu or a Mohandas K. "Mahatma" Gandhi inspiring others.

Oops - I mentioned Mohandas K. Gandhi: but he had a privileged upbringing, didn't he?

PS - and was sexually abusive, which I address here.

Our attitudes tend to influence our behaviour in different ways in different circumstances. For instance, in the example I gave of breaking free of social conditioning, I used a situation of deprivation and abuse: what is your situation? What is the social conditioning you had, and have you sifted through that to reject the less desirable or inappropriate conditioning and accept or embrace the good, constructive influences that encourage compassion? If not, then I would seriously question any "yes" answer to my previous question. I could say "You haven't been able to do this in a situation of comfort, so why would you do it in a situation of hardship?", but that is not an honest question: quite a few people's responses do tend to adapt to different situations (they "rise to meet the occasion", so to speak). So, I'll adapt that question: "Including allowance for genuine - not fanciful or wishful - 'rising to the occasion', would you, if born into a life of extreme hardship and abuse and surrounded by unspiritual values, be a spiritual person?"

I have thought about this myself, as I have had a physically privileged life (middle class Australia in the 60s and 70s) but some significant emotional trauma. On the basis of this life I'd rank myself at "pass; could do better". If take my most recent past life into consideration, I'd cut that back to "could do better".

Any time you get judgmental about other people, especially criminals, I respectfully suggest that you could beneficially take a step back and consider the old saying "there, but for the Grace of Deity, go I".

Incidentally, this post is NOT an argument in favour of doing nothing and allowing the world to have miserable places on the off chance you could get incarnated into that and test yourself. If you take that attitude, your selfishness (failure to consider others' suffering) is resulting in you incurring negative karma. Have a look at my post http://gnwmythr.blogspot.com/2007/10/stress-warts-and-blackmailing-universe.html.

This post's photo is taken from the same trip I raved about in my last post, and is a view of the Ninety Mile Beach at sunset.

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).
