Teaching the "good" (balanced positive and spiritually mature) safe ways to counter the "bad" (out of balance, spiritually immature), using over half a century of lived experience in fields such as spirit rescue, clearing, energy work, crystals, activist Paganism/Witchcraft, past lives, healing, and teaching, including sharing some of my problems [Content Warning!] and spiritual / psychic innovations. Opinions are mine UNO.
These links are, in part, to pass on useful
or potentially useful information to help others learn and grow and develop, as
I have been helped by others doing the same for me. If nothing else, some of
these at least might stimulate some useful thought – and disagreeing
intelligently with something can sometimes be a useful exercise. (Also, these are links I would like any
future incarnations of me to come across and read :) )
However, there is more to it than that –
particularly as most of these links, in my more recent readings posts, are news
links.
As you may well know from Psychic Weather
Reports, Dear Reader, every ‘bad’ news story is something that, in general, requires:
(i) clearing of all negative energy associated with the eventdirectly (e.g., pain, fear, etc on
the part of the direct victims) or indirectly (e.g., fear,
overreactions, inappropriate reactions, or seeking to outdo others’ reactions
in others reached via the media);
(ii) healing of those harmed;
(iii) that those responsible be found through BPLF [1]means and brought to BPLFjustice
(if otherwise, as the means shape the end, the result will a society that is
lessened and a strengthening of the so-called ‘law of the jungle’[2]); and
(iv) that BPLF inspiration be given to enable all to rise above this,
and take BPLF actions that will ensure a BPLF prevention of a recurrence, in
the sense that USA President John F Kennedy talked
of “true and lasting peace”.
Thus, every one of the ‘bad news’ stories which
I may have provided links for is an opportunity – but, furthermore, so are many
of the ‘good’ news stories, which often requires nonBPLF units to be
cleared to prevent blocking of improvements, to help those who are busting
their guts and becoming exhausted trying to make good things happen, and to
provide some much needed BPLF healing, energy, inspiration and encouragement –
every
single
good
news
story.
Also, keep in mind that reading these
stories may well stimulate links you personally have to similar units (energies, links, etc). Immediately,
that gives you a chance to improve both yourself and the world by dealing
constructively with any nonBPLF units through good shadow work, and by strengthening
any BPLF units.

suspect
this is more UPG
than archaeological fact :) (I am not
familiar enough with the state of translation / publication [e.g., see here, here and here] of the Dead Sea Scrolls to be sure on this), and it is severely
and grossly limited in
its “understanding” of gender and sexuality
(i.e., it is heteronormative to the point of being wrong on the causation of same sex attraction), but it is interesting to
consider (i.e., THINK for yourself about this – meditate on it) aspects of this anyway. The blurb about this video begins
with “From
the perspective of the ancient Essenes, every human on the earth is an initiate
in the Mystery School that we call Life. Whether they are conscious of it or
not, every human will experience in the presence of others mirrors of
themselves in that moment. If we have the wisdom to recognize those mirrors, we
may accelerate the evolution of emotion and understanding”. On the
basis of my limited understanding (and interest), it seems to me that the Essenes
were:(a) too afraid of nonBPM / “negative” / challenging experiences
associated with physical incarnation
(signified by their obsession with white clothing, for instance);(b) transformation of nonBPM to BPM (my words);(c) appear to have had a good focus on peace;(d) a book about peace which I have
not read, but has some good comments about grounding and bad gender stereotypes
– and is probably too Christian for a Pagan like me. If you don’t mind the Christian flavour, you

The real dividing line is not between
Christianity and Islam, Sunni and Shia, East and West. It is between people who
believe in coexistence, and those who don’t.
I mentioned in a recent post what some paths are good at and others not good at: well, one issue that it seems Christians are better at, in my experience, than other paths is the forgiveness - including self forgiveness - and redemption of wrongdoers. Their whole path, to some extent, is based on a formula for forgiveness of sin - there is a list of "what is right", and "what is wrong", and if you "accidentally" do something from the "what is wrong" list, or decide to skip something from the "what is right" list, there is a formula for what you have to do to be forgiven for that. (See the Order of Scathach's lesson2). No messy having to clean up after you, or take responsibility for what you have done - but it does tend to mean that wrongdoers (e.g., criminals) have a set formula for being able to take their place in society again - maybe not with their head held up high, but able to take their place in society.
The old "Celtic" systems of justice were based on reparative justice(I think this may have actually been more the Breton part of the Celtic world). To simplify, under this, the victims of a wrongdoing were compensated by the wrongdoer: the modern concept of forced withdrawal from society by confinement in a prison had not yet evolved. (I think our system of fines, however, came from the old Saxon ideas of payment as a form of reparative justice - so many coins for the loss of a hand, etc.) Modern justice systems tend, in my opinion, to focus on "sending a message" to discourage others from committing crimes, such as theft or murder: the framework is about society, and the victim tended to be forgotten or overlooked in this. There have been some changes to start to address that, such as victim impact statements, and reform to address the trauma inflicted on victims of sexual assault by the legal system itself (such as cross examinations, which used to include the victim's sexual history).
Now, there is no question in my mind that the victim of a crime needs to be considered - after all, the crime is what was committed against them, but the metaphoric pendulum of attitudes and systems is still swinging, and I think there are a few dangers in where it could be headed.
First of, there is, in many people (I could have written "in society", but that is really the aggregate of many people) a desire for revenge, and hence some people advocate for harsher sentences and even the death penalty, thinking - simplistically, in my opinion - that it must "send a message" and discourage other crimes. Well, no, not necessarily - it does in some cases, for instance laws against discrimination send a message that discrimination is unacceptable, but the death penalty, in my opinion, does not cure anything. Irrespective of whatever statistics are dug up on that matter (and I note some British personage pointed out a long time ago that, in order to encourage a respect for life, it is necessary to demonstrate a respect for life - although he did do that using very "class-ist" language), the soul is not destroyed, and what is that spirit going to be lie in its next incarnation as a result of having been killed?
Of greater relevance is the issue of recidivism - people who have been jailed continuing to commit crimes because that is all they know, and what they have learned while in jail. One young person I spoke to who had been jailed said he had learned around 20 ways to use a stolen credit card: is that useful? I do believe that there are times when, for the sake of the greater good, people need to be jailed, but it needs to be done humanely, and with a focus on rehabilitation.
An issue I have with current social attitudes is that it puts everyone into either the good or bad box, saint or sinner - ignores that all are capable of wrong under certain circumstances. As some North American Indians (I think - couldn't find a link to confirm this, but it was part of my training) say, we ALL have two wolves inside us, a "good" wolf, and a "bad" wolf. These two wolves are struggling for dominance, and which one wins depends on which one we feed ... We can get habits of spirituality that help us feed the "good", but given enough provocation, the other wolf is still there, no matter how far we evolve ...
I started writing this as tests have been coming from the Universe that are increasingly severe, but I can think back to many times in my life when my forbearance has been tested - one of the earliest being at a Church of England camp when, at a meeting I got up to do something at the request of a leader, and when I came back and tried to sit in my place, had a young girl laying on the floor cry when I asked for the space where my feet had been, and had the girl's friend accuse me of - I can't recall now, maybe being a bully? Anyway, it meant that they thought I should keep my feet in the air! Of relevance to now, it was, in my view, a false allegation and an issue of injustice that was not addressed by the camp leaders - they tried the distraction approach: everyone had to have a sleep, followed by "do you feel better now?" - no, I didn't, but maybe it helped me to leave that religion :)
(There was an interesting article on Witchvox a few months ago by someone who watched a child respond to aggressive behaviour from another child in a very appropriate way, moving away and trying to share constructively, but when, in desperation, the child hit out defensively, the two mothers who had been nearby intervened INappropriately, starting to tell off the child. The author of the article, father of one of the children, explained what had been going on. I often think of this when children are told to sort out their problems on the playground - my experience is that such is a formula for giving bullies free rein ...)
Interesting that the camp incident was handled so badly, when they seem to have their act together for a formulaic rehabilitation and reintegration of serious offenders.
I wonder what victim's groups would do about offenders? Many seem to want an apology. I don't: the few I've had in life have rarely been genuine, and I consider the "tell the bully how you're feeling" approach to be irresponsible in that it gives the bullies I've had to put up with exactly what they want! Whatever they do want, someone needs to consider the issue of how to reintegrate the offender back into normal life. Hopefully, with a better model than the "I have found the Lord and repent" approach ...
The one qualification to all this is child abusers: the evidence is that they are at risk of offending for the rest of their current incarnation (rarely seems to carry over into the next life, though). In that case, the massive harm they cause would suggest that compulsory treatment or jailing is warranted to prevent further children being harmed, but society's principles of justice will only countenance jailing, followed by monitoring. There are (valid) concerns about starting down a slippery slope by forcing treatment (there have been films about where this could lead to, including, I understand, "Minority Report"), but there are even more valid concerns about what happens to children who are abused - often because they are not believed. I don't know what the solution is here - but, if I was looking for one, I'd certainly start by considering what groups like Bravehearts have to say.
Now, let's move on to a few other matters. I'll begin with knowledge.
The impression I get from many courses - not only in "alternative" matters - is that it is important to have a wealth of facts, figures, equations and the like readily at hand. In other words, to know something means having instant recall of everything you have studied.
Now, my natural tendency is to want to be able to do this, and I know that most people are capable of more recall than they generally give themselves credit for (especially if they don't dissolve their brains in alcohol, drugs or stupefying TV and similar "entertainment"), but I also KNOW that the sheer volume of information in existence is beyond the capacity of any one person to recall - even IF they could learn it all in the first place. This applies both generally, and to particular professions - a standard piece of advice I give to young engineers is that knowing where to get knowledge is more important than knowing the information directly.
This also applies to metaphysics and psychic matters. I recently had a go at my version of Harry Dresden's "shield bracelet" (I'll post what I came up with when I finish developing this), and I relied heavily on being able to go to sources for details of symbols - I know the Elder Futhark runes pretty well, but this needed more, including the Seals of Solomon which I find work very well. To some extent, given my innate desire to know and carry all knowledge around me "in my bones", so to speak, I felt a bit of a cheat, in that haven't made any major contribution like whoever used the planetary squares and other sources of information to come up with the Seals of Solomon, and I didn't discover or contribute to the creation of the symbols from Cunningham's "Living Wicca"(I like to go back to the source, and at least one of the sources I was looking at indicated they had obtained their symbols from Cunningham's book). However, that was a lesson for me: although I need to continue expanding my abilities, including my mental abilities, it is simply not possible to know everything and contain that within one incarnate being (maybe that is part of why the Goddess created so many of us ...).
Now, other matters. Here's a whole range of miscellaneous thoughts. I don't expect anyone to agree these, but please spend some time thinking to see how you feel about them, and see what reflections they may trigger in you.
First off, negative energy doesn't necessarily make one feel unhappy - think of a drug user's emotional reaction to a hit, or an alcoholic's reaction to getting drunk: both would consider themselves "happy", and yet they are doing something harmful to themselves, and often harmful to others.
On that, avoidance sadly seems to be endemic in society - drink, drugs, parties, meaningless sex, etc - anything rather than fixing the life circumstance, issue or problem that is making one feel dissatisfied. That is not spiritually healthy. If one gets a cold, it isn't just a case of popping pills to suppress the symptoms and then "soldiering on", it is - in my experience - a call from your body for a rest, whether it be a rest from stress (we spend more times in "fight or flight"mode than hunter-gatherers!) or a rest from junk we might be feeding ourselves (such as the aforementioned drink, drugs, etc). The attitude of too many people I know is "take a pill and get on with it".
Now, on that, one of the things I like about the Order of Schathach's approach is that they believe in facing life fully and directly, not the avoidance of pills and parties. A few other things I like (selected at random) about their training materials(which I am slowly working my way through) include:
that divinity is within us, and we don't access it externally so much as bring it forth from within us (very true, and very nice to come across someone else saying this);
have a concept of entrainment with energy;
slipping in or out of circles rather than cutting doorways;
working without a circle (e.g., directing energy to a central "steersprson" who directs the energy to where it needs to go);
triangle of defence;
facing life face on: no avoidance;
feeling the direction of flow of energy;
the use of song and dance - and silence;
entrainment;
toning;
etc, etc, etc
(There are a range of other groups/matters/paths I am studying, incidentally. Learning never stops :) )
Now, another topic I have been reflecting on is that of rules. In terms of a group seeking to foster spiritual development, say, like ... perhaps a monastery ... rather than, say, compulsorily enforce silence, perhaps it is better to watch potential members and simply select those who are naturally tending towards that. This thought has come about partly because I am aware of my increasing preference for silence as I age, compared to when I was younger, and wanted music around me. (I also use this approach when assessing potential students, these days: many exclude themselves by the disrespectful or undisciplined ways they live their lives, for example. I have no problem with that - I have a duty to be sure anyone I teach is morally trustworthy anyway.)
Going from that, , a recent thought of mine is that, sadly, some people people only truly become mature when their parents die. Maturity is marked by independence, and many cannot get by without chats to Mum ... That may be "cute", but in some cases it goes further, and really marks a form of dependence that shows a lack of maturity. (It can also, in the case of an ex- of mine, put a confining pressure on the parent that stops them moving on with their life.)
Now on the issue of parents and children, we have had a newspaper columnist, Miranda Devine, write that allowing a trans child access to puberty blockers is tantamount to child abuse. She is wrong: NOT allowing hormone treatment is child abuse - it is likely to lead to suicide. I know many trans people who, if they had been allowed access to puberty blockers, would have had FAR easier lives. Her credibility is nil. Support IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia) which is also very much about stopping transphobia.
Now, ECT sometimes dislodges spirits, but its main effect is more likely to be exactly as the doctors say it is working. Mild discomfort generally may discourage spirits, but if it is more than mild discomfort, it is not likely to work. Apart from such spirits often being in greater psychic pain than you can create physically, the aim of any exorcism or rescue is to help, not harm. On that, I've also quite successfully done such "exorcisms" or rescue at a distance, so even thinking it is necessary to be present is wrong. The story I've given a link to above is simply of behaviour that is WRONG. In fact, so what if she has been ill? Isn't that be more of a test of how her parents will react - will they be loving and supportive, or will they put their ego and the status of their ... family or role ahead of the wellbeing of the child? I've seen water splashed in a face to bring someone out of an involuntary trance, but dousing someone continuously???? Sounds more like torture ... was the father angry at the daughter for not being what he wanted, perhaps? Where was the common sense in all this???
Things such as attidtudes of that .. "misguided" Miranda Devine do change with time - the very fact that TGV now exists is an example, as is the general trend over the last few hundred years for better human rights (e.g., consider the fairly widespread abolition of slavery - which is NOT world wide yet), or attempts at better human rights (many of the situations I've mentioned above, however, show that more work is still needed), in many areas of life. In fact, all things will change, including the current "security theatre" approach to air travel security. The current problems attributable to the TSA, problems which I consider akin to sexual assault (seen the video of the children who are disturbed and crying as a result of being touched? Where is Miranda Devine on that!!), will eventually pass - at which stage I will be happy to resume travelling by air. See here for a study which estimates that the consequences of security equate to around four 737s a year crashing (through a 6% decrease in the number of passengers, who travel by roads because of the invasive security measures and experience road accidents as a result - since the flying itself is actually much safer than driving). Sadly, change may have to wait until someone does a study into the psychological consequences of the "enhanced pat downs", as they are called.
So, moving on ... I am currently reading and enjoying the "Allie Beckstrom" series of fantasy novels by Devon Monk. In these novels, which refer to the use of glyphs and hence get my interest :) , use of magic leads to an immediate payment of a price in some way - generally physical pain, but possibly loss of memory as well. It's an interesting idea, and one which is useful to sort of illustrate the reality that what one does will have consequences: if someone psychically attacks another person, it will come back to them, for instance. I also keep in mind that, if I have sought a Deity's help, that will also have some consequences - and hence, for instance, if I am ... lighting a candle to call on a particular rune, I will first light one candle in honour of, and to feed, the rune itself, and only then will I light a candle for my request. It's a bit like paying in advance - or, perhaps more accurately, nurturing a friendship rather than calling on someone for help, perhaps to move, when you haven't seen or contacted them for ages. (Of course, the other side to this is that anything you do that is good will also come back to you.)
One aspect of these novels that I would slightly qualify is around casting magic while in a state of high emotion. In a generic sense (which is not the situations of mortal danger that the series of books are referring to), it is important to be able to focus, and hence emotion can be a weakening influence. On the other hand, however, if it is appropriately directed, emotion (which does, after all, include love - in all its myriad forms) can be a strengthening influence - which is included in this series of books by the books' concept of "Soul Complements", people who can combine together, in a sense, and thus create more powerful magic. (This reminds me also Marion Zimmer Bradley's novel "The Forbidden Tower", from her "Darkover" series of novels, which also addresses - in part - sex, sexuality and intimacy and the potential for these to help or hinder magic.)

Comprehensive
notes on what I consider “basic” psychic matters are included in Appendix E. For now, I will only point out that:
there
is more to reality than just the physical: there is also a set of
non-physical worlds;
we
have bodies in many of those non-physical worlds, and are sensitive to
greater or lesser degree of those non-physical influences;
we
can constructively influence non-physical energies, by our thoughts,
actions and by use of signs, symbols, shapes and ceremonies/services.
The way that
signs, symbols and shapes influence us include:
the stimulation of associations (possibly unconscious)
that we have with that sign, symbol or shape;
the connection that the signs, symbols and shapes have
with energies more broadly.
The last point is what most people think of
when considering signs, symbols and shapes (the powers attributed to four sided
pyramids such as the Pyramid of Giza is one example of this), but it often the
personal associations that are more important. As an example, a cross may be a
positive symbol to a Christian, but a negative symbol to an indigenous person
or pagan, who may be very aware of a history of persecution, abuse and
discrimination from Christians. Because they are so powerful personally,
today’s emphasis will be on personal symbols, but I will also cover other
symbols – particularly those I used in creating the Talismanic Tetrahedrons
you’ve been given.
It is also important to note that symbols
can change their meaning. The evil of the 1930s/40s German Nazi party, for instance,
has so changed the associations of the swastika[1] (although, technically,
they used the “crooked swastika”) from one that was extremely positive in India,
that many cannot attempt to use any form of swastika now. Personal perspectives
can also have an influence, as was illustrated at the start of the film “The Da
Vinci Code”.
As a point for consideration, if one thinks
about the amount of mental effort (energy) that goes into creating a thought form,
how much of the power of any symbol is due to the energy given it by possibly
thousands of people thinking about it in a certain way? Maybe the pre-Nazi
swastika had its positive associations because thousands of people thought of
it as a positive symbol ... If that is in fact the case, then maybe things like
millions of people watching the Harry Potter movies and reading the books will
give the “Expecto
Patronum” spell a certain amount of real psychic power ...
I have seen enough to be personally
convinced that karma
exists, and what we give out or create comes back to us (including the good,
not only the bad). Anything that exists can be used for good or bad: I expect
everyone here to be committed to using these skills only for good (technically,
for the “Highest Spiritual Good” – see Appendix E
for more on this).
That sounds fairly easy, or at least like a
good idea, for most people. However, it can be trickier than people expect, and
usually the issue of free will is where people get caught out. The situation
where this is most commonly a problem is when someone we love, such as a close
family member, is doing something that we consider is harming them. Unless the
harm is such that action such as calling a Crisis Assessment Team or the police
is justified, often what has to happen is that we have to accept that the
person we love has the right to make their own mistakes. We can OFFER to help,
but if they say no, or they listen and then ignore what we have to say, we have
to accept that.
In those circumstances, we can work on
ourselves to making bearing our grief easier, but we can NOT compel them to do
things the way we wish.
An amulet is a magical object created with
the intent of
causing a particular effect. Often this is intended to be protective, and hence
it be created using protective symbols and correspondences, but the intent can be for
other aims as well - e.g., healing, finances, love, spiritual growth, etc. In
those other cases, the symbols and correspondences chosen would be based on the
desired outcome.
For instance, if one wished to create a amulet
for personal spiritual growth, one may choose something with a green (growth)
or purple (spirituality) colour (or both), or perhaps incorporate an amethyst
(again, associations with spirituality). If one was interested in social
justice, one may incorporate the rune Tiwaz, associated with the Norse god Tyr,
god of social justice (amongst other things).
Talismanic Tetrahedrons are, in effect, a
form of amulet: they are an energy device created to achieve a particular
effect or outcome – such as psychic protection, or world peace. Before we get
into Talismanic Tetrahedrons, let’s consider some symbols which can be used to
create amulets generally. I’ll start with some fairly complicated, even a bit
scary symbols (partly because I have used them on the ones I have given you,
and I think you should understand what is on those), but it gets simpler.
First up, “magical squares”.
3 (a) “Magical
Squares”
There is an old[2] idea for preparing amulets
based on the use of “Qabbalistic[3]
Squares”, or “magical squares’, or “talismanic squares”, or Kamea. These are
squares of rows and columns of numbers where each row or column adds up to the
same value. Development of this is generally credited to “traditional”, with
comments such as “having come to us through the works of Abbot Trithemius,
Peter de Abano and Cornelius Agrippa” (p. 154, “The Complete Book of Spells,
Ceremonies, and Magic”, Migene Gonzalez-Wippler, pub. Llewellyn, 1988, ISBN
0-87542-286-1).
Over time, one Kamea has been prepared for
each of the six innermost planets (excluding earth), and the Moon and the Sun.
These Kamea can be used to prepare amulets by converting words into a sequence
of numbers (i.e., by using numerology – generally adaptations of the Qabbalistic/Hebrew
system, but I have also seen English based systems[4] used; as
the words are English, it is probably a moot point.) A pattern is traced from
cell to cell within the Kamea using the sequence of numbers as a guide to
create the symbol. Hence, “love” would be converted (using the Qabbalistic
system) to 3 – 7 – 6 - 5. This sequence would
then be traced on the Kamea of choice. If one was aiming to develop that
characteristic (love) in oneself, one may choose the Kamea of Jupiter, for its
expansive influence. If one wished to bring a love relationship into one’s
life, maybe one would choose to use the Kamea of the Moon, which has emotional
connections.
Let’s use that example to see how that
would look.
The first point about the Seals of Solomon
is that you will possibly come across claims that they date back to the Hebrew
king, Solomon: they don’t. They’re more recent, possibly dating from the early
Middle Ages. That doesn’t make them less potent.
These Seals typically are a circular
design, with various symbols drawn in them – sigils, of the type that I’ve outlined
in the section on magical
squares. There’s quite a bit of theory that goes into the creation of
these designs, theory from the Qabbalah and other traditions: you don’t need to
know all the theory (I certainly can’t claim to know all, or even most of it) to
be able to work with these, but what you do need to know is the associations
that each Seal has, or that have been built up over time for each Seal.
The Seals are
classified by planets, arranged into first pentacle, second pentacle, and so
forth, which gives us the following (there are a wide range of sources for
copies of the Seals, by the way):

I strongly
recommend caution when using Seals that refer to things like acquiring
honour, or defence against one’s “enemies”. The acquisition of something should
NEVER be at someone else’s expense,
and defence against one’s “enemies” should not aim to harm them as a way of
achieving your “self-defence” you need to know yourself incredibly well, and to
have had your commitment to ethics thoroughly tested in many very challenging
situations, in my opinion, before you can safely rely on using a Seal of
Solomon – not to mention knowing how to tell whether or not there is a
potential for the Seals to be working in ways that are harmful.
There is also the potential for personal
biases and simplifications to result in the use of such Seals giving you
negative karma: meditate, and consult with your Balanced Positive (spiritual)
Force[6]
Guides before using any of these Seals! If you’re not sure, ask someone who
knows more, or who has worked with the Seals.
This information has been included here
largely so you know what has been used to create the Talismanic Tetrahedrons
you’ll be given as part of this workshop.
This is a massive area of study, one I’ve
been working at since I was a teenager. I won’t try to cover it in any depth
here, I will just state that the “Tree of Life” from the Qabbalah comprises a
number of “spheres”, each of which represents a particular type of energy.
Hence, for instance, the sphere (they are, incidentally, called “Sephiroth”,
plural, or Sephirah, singular) known as “Yesod” represents, amongst other
things, the subconscious.
Most people know of ten Sephiroth: I work
with those, and an eleventh, “Da’ath”, which (to simplify) represents the
transition from this world to the astral.

I’ve given some of the associations with
each sphere (e.g. colours) in Appendix B.
The way I personally work with these is to
call on the energies that are relevant when I charge Talismanic Tetrahedrons that
I make and work with. You do not need to do so: you are, in fact, better off
using whatever feels most comfortable for you.
I have been working with Germanic/Norse
runes since the mid-90s, and find it a very effective and easy to use system –
for me. I know others do not find that so, but others may find working with
other systems easier than I would. For example, what I can do with runes for
divination others can do using Tarot or Cartouche. Runes, Tarot and Cartouche are
forms of symbology: whatever the symbology is that you best relate to is
the best system to work with when creating a Talismanic Tetrahedron.
Pyramids have associations of concentrating
energy, and of protection. This is often associated with the four sided base
pyramid based on the “Great Pyramid” at Giza, Egypt, but other shapes may have
such associations also. When training for my day job as an engineer, I was told
the triangle was the simplest stable structure – and three is a number which
crops up in a wide range of areas (e.g. the Triangles promoted as an offshoot
of the organisation World Goodwill).
In my case, I have found a tetrahedron, a
shape which could be considered as a “pyramid with a triangular base”, the same
shape as the carbon molecule in diamonds, to be an extremely effective shape
for working with energy.
The associations that I was taught in
relation to shapes is as follows:
Sphere
The
sphere is considered the “perfect” form, because it is the same from all
angles. It is often used with an association of the creation of energy that is
not sent in a particular direction.
A Beam
Unlike a sphere, a beam is a very focused,
directed thing. It is not particularly useful in terms of creating talismans,
but can be very useful in healing. Of course, something I also keep in mind is
that nature rarely ever uses straight lines – curves and/or spirals are more
normal (for instance, think of the curves of a natural river, or the spiral of
a tornado), and are sometimes used by science, engineering or technology (for
example, “cyclonic” or “dual cyclone” vacuum cleaners)[7].
Tetrahedron
And here we have the basis of this workshop
J The tetrahedron is a three-dimensional
triangle, and is one of the five “Platonic
Solids”[8],
which are the five “perfect polyhedrons” that the Ancient Greeks used to
represent the elements Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and Spirit. The tetrahedron
symbolised fire, which has associations of movement, development, and growth -
which means it is particularly useful for transformation and change.
Pyramid
The pyramid is a similar to a tetrahedron
except in that the pyramid has four triangular sides and a square base – most
people know it in terms of the Pyramid of Cheops at Giza, and the pyramids
which became popular in the 1970s for meditation, healing, growth and (it was
claimed) keeping razor blades sharp. The four sides on the base give this shape
more stability, compared to a tetrahedron, which means it is useful for
energies that are more focused on stability, rather than change.
I personally find
the tetrahedron with appropriate symbols good enough for situations where I
want to create stability, but it would also be possible to create a cut out
shape for a pyramid and use the principles I’ve developed for Talismanic
Tetrahedrons for as pyramid shape for even greater stability.
Cube
The cube, or technically also a
“hexahedron”, is even more focused on stability than the four side pyramid. This
can be used, for instance, when you want to make an energy flow more steady, or
you need to anchor energy very securely. The cube is resistant to change, and
also tends to slow energy.
The Ancient Greeks considered this one of
their Platonic Solids, and considered it to represent their element “Earth”, which
has qualities such as solidity.
Octahedron
Now we’re going to start getting into more
difficult shapes J Mind you,
if you really wanted to, you could create objects in these shapes – Buckminster
Fuller[9], for example, has used one
to create a more accurate (flat) map of the globe than we usually see, and
others have used some of these various shapes to create models of the earth’s
energies ... just don’t ask me to do that J
This “double Pyramid” or “diamond” has
connection to both the transformational nature of the triangle, the stability
of the number four, and also the intensity of the number eight (the number of
faces it has is eight), which gives it an intense and stable energy (which,
oddly enough, can be used for change [transformation], for example, major life
issues [perhaps the development of patience, or persistence, or communication,
or psychic ability] which may be going to need a sustained effort for one
particular person).
I’ve also been told the shape can also be
used to disperse energy over an extended period.
To the Ancient Greeks, the Octahedron
represented Air and its associated qualities, such as thought and inspiration.
The Ancient Greeks used Icosahedron to
represent Water, and the qualities associated with water such as fluidity and
mutability.
Modern interpretation are that the
Icosahedron is associated with change and adaptability, and is best used for
long term projects which may be subject to changing conditions. This shape can
also be used to create a stable emotional atmosphere in a location where this
might be needed, or to help stabilize a person or situation which is prone to emotional
instability.
This is the most important part of this
section of the workshop, because the symbols that are most powerful for you are
the ones that mean the most for you.
As a simple and fairly obvious example of
that, if you wished to create a tetrahedron to help a young person in your
family to find a good job, in addition to symbols associated with employment
and protection, you need something to direct the energy to the young person.
Someone who doesn’t know the young person personally might use the young
person’s name, or perhaps even a photo. You, however, may have a small, special
gift from them that you could place inside the tetrahedron (at least they have
a good job) to use the bond of love that you have with them to create a strong
link to send them the energy.
People have all sorts of associations that
are sometimes not obvious. For example, a sense of relaxation may, for you, be
associated with the smell of cut grass. In that case, if you were working on a
tetrahedron for yourself to achieve relaxation, you may put a photo of someone
mowing grass on one of the sides.
In terms of energetic work, everyone has
preferences – mine include things like runes that not many other people feel
comfortable with. On the other hand, you may be comfortable with the
Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot deck, which I don’t find at all natural or comfortable
to use, so you could very usefully use copies of those cards drawn onto the
tetrahedron.
On runes, another example of personal
associations is my associations with the rune Raidho. “Officially”, this rune
represents movement; less well known is an association, through the old German
word Rad, with knights – yet it is that latter meaning that has greater
significance for me personally (e.g., if I draw that particular rune when doing
a reading for myself).
As I’ve stated a few times now: it is the
personal associations that matter most!
Those associations can be hard to become
aware of, at times – especially when trying to create something like a
Talismanic Tetrahedron. Probably the easiest way to get around this is to let
go of the fear of “not doing it right”, and turn it into a game – be playful,
have fun! Draw on your inner child.
The idea behind “Talismanic Tetrahedrons”
is to combine several of these ideas together: specifically, they started by
putting Kamea on the faces of a tetrahedron to add complexity to the amulet
being created to deal with the potential complexity of a particular goal, and
also to allow work with multiple dimensions. (Also, the 60° angle on the sides
has the association of a sextile aspect in astrology, which is a harmonious
aspect.) Later, I started to work with other symbols.
As far as the name of these goes, I like
the alliteration J
For me, making
a talismanic tetrahedron for a specific purpose is, in essence the following
process:
(1)key words are selected, together with a
selection of the best Kamea to use for each word, and the key words worked into
a design for the base volknut;
(2)colours, shapes, sigils, etc with
correspondences to the desired outcome are assembled (I frequently include
Seals of Solomon, astrological correspondences, runes, etc) to add to, and
personalise, the design for each face;
(3)the Talismanic Tetrahedron is prepared
(typically, i. the outer design is printed, glued to
a light cardboard, and covered with “contact” [adhesive plastic protection];
ii. the shape is then cut out [including
the tabs]; iii. the inner design is printed (I
frequently use the “Hope, Peace, Love and Prosperity” spell), cut out and
glued to the inside;
iv. the shape is folded and then sealed together [e.g. using double sided tape
on the inside ad clear tape along the
outside);
and then
(4)the Talismanic Tetrahedron is charged using
an appropriate ceremony to invoke the energies associated with the design, and
charge those energies with the task of achieving the desired function.
After that, there will be some ongoing
maintenance (occasional recharges) and usage (e.g. handling to personalise the
device) to consider.
That is all fairly simple, but ... you’ve
got four sides to fill: how do you go about it?
Well, it is useful to think about how many
aspects there may be in a situation, as a starting point.
One example of this is the “World Peace”
Talismanic Tetrahedron, which was created to cover emotional peace, spiritual
peace and social peace. It could just as easily have been based on the Hope,
Peace, Love and Prosperity Spell, with each face allocated to each of the four
aspects included.
As another example, you may be doing some
(constructive and FULLY respectful of their right to free will choices!) work
on the relationship between two people. In that case, one face could be for
each person, one for the situation, and the base to tie it all together.
For another example, consider an adult
student at university wanting to create something to help her (or his) studies.
If they have a family, then one face may have to be for the issues around
making sure this person’s duties towards their family are met while leaving
enough energy to study, another may be about study skills, and another face
about the prejudice adult students encounter (with the base used, again, for a
design which ties it all together).
In some cases there may be so many issues
that you need to use a more complex shape than a simple tetrahedron. Good luck!
Having come up with the design, let’s look in
more detail at the physical exercise of making and assembling it into a
Talismanic Tetrahedron.
First, I suggest you get a colour photocopy
of your work, and keep the original so you can make more if you ever need it
(for instance, if the tetrahedron becomes damage or worn over time).
Next, the
procedure for physically creating one of these (in full) is:
get the design photocopied onto light cardboard so it is
firmer and easier to handle;
place contact on the design;
cut out the now protected design/shape (keeping the
tabs!);
cut out the inner “design”, the Hope Peace Love and
Prosperity Spell (no tabs on this none), and glue it to the inner face of
the tetrahedron;
when the glue has set, fold the tetrahedron along the
lines of the base, and the tabs;
to secure the shape, use either double sided tape or glue
(which can be a bit tricky) on the tabs, or tape along the edges.
That’s it- you’re done. If you wish, you can omit steps along the way – for
instance, you may wish to omit adding an inner design, or, if the Talismanic Tetrahedron
is not wanted to last for a long time, maybe omit the contact.
Now, in preparing the design for any Talismanic
Tetrahedron, considerable time, energy and effort has gone into assembling the
correspondences and creating the designs used. This is a good start to getting
the ball rolling, but to personalise and finalise charging the Talismanic
Tetrahedron, some owner effort is required.
Consider buying a car: considerable design
and manufacture effort has created the car, but you still have to get in it and
turn the engine on to start using it.
In this case, the equivalent of turning the
engine on is the use of magic (focused intent) with the purpose of charging the
Talismanic Tetrahedron. That is where the ceremony outlined below comes into
play.
Let’s consider the example Talismanic
Tetrahedrons included to both gain an appreciation of how these are made, and
to get to grips with a suitable ceremony to charge/recharge these particular
Talismanic Tetrahedrons.
·sigils
for grounding, centering and protection created on the Square of the Moon,
together with the Egyptian hieroglyph for Bast, the Sephirah Yesod and the
Third Pentacle of Jupiter;
·sigils
for cleanse, clear and release created on the Square of Saturn, together with
the hieroglyph for Yinepu (“Anubis”), the Sephirah Da’ath and the Third
Pentacle of the Moon; and
·sigils
for wellness, healing and wholeness created on the Square of the Sun, together
with the hieroglyph for Horus, the Sephira Tiphereth and the Sixth Pentacle of
Mars.
There is a wide range of ceremonies
which could be used to charge (or recharge) any Talismanic Tetrahedron. What
follows is a fairly simple ceremony, and a more complex version has been
presented in Appendix C.

been created using the magical square of Mercury, and these energies are
combined with those of the God Hermes, who is associated with communication;
·on
another face, a Kamea of the words love, peace, balance and wholeness have been
created using the magical square of the Moon, and these energies are combined
with those of the Goddess Kwan Yin, who is associated with compassion.
On the base face of this
Talismanic Tetrahedron is a “volknut” with three interlocking triangles, each
of which has “spiritual peace”, “emotional peace” and “social peace” on it,
arranged so that each of these phrases appears under each face of the
tetrahedron. These energies are combined with that of the God Tiwaz, who has
associations of social justice, and the words justice, equity and perseverance.
Now, let’s consider a ceremony
to charge all these symbols and the Talismanic Tetrahedron.
There is a wide range of ceremonies
which could be used to charge (or recharge) any Talismanic Tetrahedron. What
follows is a fairly simple ceremony, and a more complex version has been
presented in Appendix C.

Open the circle, ground
and release all excess energy, shut down your chakras and close your aura.
When a crystal is programmed, it chugs away
doing its work without any further input. Talismanic Tetrahedrons are the same:
once you have created them, they will keep working.
If you have created them for a personal aim
(e.g., success at studying), it may be helpful for you to handle them,
occasionally (or look at them from time to time) to help the effect you are
trying to create “latch on” to you.
If you created it for, say, protection of a
person or place, you could help the Talismanic tetrahedron do its job by
thinking of the person or place being safe while handling the tetrahedron –
perhaps just before you go to visit them.
These are, however, enhancements: they are
not essential.
Like any tool (e.g. a crystal), it will
work better if you treat it considerately, as you would a good friend. (How
many friends would you keep if you only contacted them when you needed them to
help you move house?)
Treat the tetrahedron with respect – for
instance, dust it.
They can, as with anything, be overwhelmed
from time to time, so, just as you would do with a crystal, you may need from time
to time to recharge it, which is basically a case of repeating the original
charging ceremony.
If you share a Talismanic tetrahedron with
distant friends, you could use it to help your connection with them, or
possibly to help with matters like absent healing.
You could, if it has the intention of
healing, try things like placing herbs on or around it – or even in it.
As the juggler working with assorted knives
and axes said, “now, for my next trick … stopping”.
From time to time, it may be that you want
to end the work of a tetrahedron (for instance, it may have accomplished its
purpose, or circumstances may have changed and it is no longer appropriate, or
it may need to be replaced by one that is newer and in better condition.
In that case, you work through the ceremony
for charging, but thank and dismiss the energies/powers, asking that they be
rewarded for their work. Then I suggest you bury the tetrahedron – preferably
for a year.
