Post No. 3,512 - The biggest blocks to learning

This is from the psychic devellopment course that I am (slowly) working on.  

In addition to consider different styles of learning, different forms of knowing, and the many interactions between character aspects and matters such as learning, knowing, and doing (ethically), there is one - or two very closely related - issue(s) that, in my experience, are the biggest blocks to learning: 

• the far too persistent desire to please parents, authorrity figures, and peers - which is part of the desire for social connection / belonging, and to avoid exclusion / social isolation, which comes out of evolutionary experience as being necessary for survival (not everyone has this problem). 
  
  Unfortunately, I have seen FAR too many people get flustered or upset when something they adopted because it came from their parents/authority figures/peers is shown to be wrong - to the extent that they resist the truth, as well as put themselves unnecessarily through an emotional wringer. 
  
  Why unnecessarily? Because their parents probably did the best that they could with what they knew, but knowledge is not static - it changes as new facts/information/perspectives become available, which is good, or otherwise we would still be trying to do everything with stone tools and wood fires. 
  
  Past knowledge, if it is merely flawed and not outright wrong (bigotry is also taught by parents, and that is clearly and definitely WRONG), could be noted or respected by a statement along the lines of "that’s interesting, until now I’ve always thought [o_o] ", but statements along the lines of "everyone knows [o_o]" are just bullying attempts to shame or embarrass others into compliance with, frankly, stupidity (dishonourable amathia); 

• similar to that,there are people who get upset if they consider admitting to not knowing something, or that knowledge has subsequently changed (i.e., they are now, and possibly always have been, wrong), or they feel they are being corrected by someone they view as having lower social status (e.g., BIPOC, LGBTQIASB+, lower social classs, women, younger/older, disabled, different characteristics, etc). 

For the sake of others, neither of the above sets of people should be allowed ANYWHERE near a spiritual or psychic group until they can get rid of what are kindergarten level flaws. 

And neither of the above sets of people will be able to learn properly until they have got those childish flaws - the biggest, in many ways in many situations, flaws - out of the way.

Post No. 2,869 - learning “the hard way”

A topic I have covered on this blog is that of learning (refer to the labels [Blogger’s term for tags/hashtags] below for more on that - and apologies to those using mobile phones, as Blogger does not seem to allow labels to be viewed on that sort of device, and see also here on “negative learning”, and also here [learning from mistakes], here [which includes “The ideal is to learn in constructive situations, but there are some who stubbornly refuse to learn, and for those those people, the negative learning of karma may be necessary, less effective thought it may be (I have to admit there are some lessons I have had to learn, both in this life and over the millennia, "the hard way").”], here [on the risk of becoming a monster - if writing that now, I might include a philosopher’s comment about when you look into the abyss, the abyss looks into you], and here).

One of the aspects of this that I have written about on my political blog is learning - particularly from history, or, too often, not  learning the lessons of history ... 

Learning, and not learning, the efficient (“easy”) way are important - not only for nations, as I wrote about in the post below, but for groups and for individuals.

And the point I want to particularly warn against is that of hubris - pride, arrogance, and various combinations/variations of those.

As I have taken pains to point out when writing about the war in Gaza, Israel has in many cases repeated errors that others have made earlier (for instance, the USA in World War [part] Two). 

Don’t feel too superior - yes, undertake nonviolent activism to promote change, but don’t think your nation or group or you yourself, Dear Reader, are free of fault. That way lies the fault of spiritual bypassing, at the very least. 

And note that if you are open about your faults, spiritual bypassers will smugly be critical of you, and possibly use your realism to ignore their own hypocrisy and continue being faulty ... and there’s pretty much nothing you can do about that, other than sigh when they finally wake up and regret what they have done. 

And that is something I consider Israel will do one day - wake up, and be horrified at what Israel has done in Gaza and the West Bank. 

On the other hand, I doubt that the ultra-narcissists of H____ will allow themselves to regret creating the reality that is destroying Palestinians ...
