Post No. 464 - Why bad things happen to good people

I was doing my clearing this morning (my "listings", as I refer to them), which is one of the ways I clear negative karma from my past (and present) lives. (I can also do a certain amount of this to help others, and doing what I can to help address the calamity unfolding in Egypt was the starting point this morning. The message on the candles I lit was "May whoever has power in Egypt, have the wherewithall to comport themselves with dignity, and to ensure that all act with dignity, restraint, and thought for the future of their land and ALL the peoples who live there." I've had past lives in Egypt, but I also have coworkers that I am pleased to have called friend - and others I have known - who are Egyptian, and Egypt and her people deserve better than this!) As I did so, a thought came to me: a response to the question "why do bad things happen to good people?" Well, some of it is a test of the good people OR those around them, some of it is an outcome of the generally negative state of this planet at the present time, but a good part of it is simple negative karma.

I've often read how we may spend dozens or hundreds of lives learning that we are meant to become better people, and then dozens or scores more learning how to do that. When we get to those lives where we are finally starting to become "good people", we have possibly got hundreds of lifetimes of generating karma, most of which was probably bad because, by definition, we hadn't learned to try to be good nor how to be "good".

Karma can be changed, negative karma can be set aside in special circumstances, but in general, for the sake of Divine Justice, you must either experience it or make EFFECTIVE reparations. Fortunately, the caring that is an inherent part of being "good" (I'm simplifying, hence the quotation marks) gives those people who have achieved the status of being "good" the guidance to do exactly what is needed.

In many cases, the negative karma hasn't come from anything that is spectacularly "evil" - it is just the accumulation of lots and lots of little "evils" - things like a few hundred years of gossiping about other people ...

I've posted before about checking how one's karmic status is by seeing how long it is before things one do that are wrong come back to you - for instance, if you cut someone off while driving in traffic, how long is it before that comes back to you. If it is minutes, hours or a few days, you're probably doing not too badly with the accumulated mass of negative karma ... if it is weeks, there's a lot, probably mostly small stuff, that you have to think about ... (This test is a little flawed in that some larger items of karma may be being held over, until you have an opportunity to do something about them, so the flow is not completely in order of generation. Some things need a literally once in a lifetime opportunity ... )

I've got a few links to previous posts of mine, but I'll add those later.

As a final thought, the tragedy unfolding in Egypt is a test of every single person on this planet who finds out about it: what are you doing? If you're unsure about trying to do anything, read my post here. The focus of such things should never be "why are these things happening to those people" - that is NONE of your business, and could be as a test of what YOU do, for all you know. As you look and ponder, consider also: did the West's lack of any action, let alone effective action, in relation to Syria, which perhaps ended the Arab Spring, contribute to the calamity in Egypt? Or perhaps the simplicity of the views of Westerners on any situation outside their own land (and many situations in their lands)?

I'm also exploring use of h2g2, although that doesn't appear to be as extensive (h2g2 is intended - rather engagingly - to be the Earth edition of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy")

I started this blog to cover karmic regression-rescue (see here and here), and it grew ...  See here for my group mind project, here and here for my "pagans for peace" project, and here for my bindrune kit-bag.
  • One size does NOT fit all.
  • May the world of commerce and business be recognised to be a servant, not a master, of the lives of people.
  • A home is for living in, not feeling, becoming or being rich or a “better” class than others.
  • The secret to being (financially) rich is not to have lots of money: it is to have an income above the poverty line, and then make whatever sacrifices are necessary in order to live within 90% of your means.
  • Like fire to the physical, emotions to the soul make a good servant, and a bad master.
  • Armageddon is alive and well and happening right now: it is a battle between the indolence of "I only ..." and/or "I just ..." and what Bruce Schneier [2] calls "security theatre" on one side, and perspicacity and the understanding that the means shape the end on the other.
  • The means shape the end.

  • Spiritual love is far more than just an emotion - it is a concept, thoughts, actions and a way of living.
  • One of the basics of serious spiritual / psychic work is that the greatest work is that which we do on ourself, which seems trivial to many. Our own Innermost Essence, which is our Higher Self / Soul / Spirit, has the power to do so much, and is actively participating in the creation and sustenance of this physical reality. Some mote of our conscious or unconscious knows that, which is why we seem inclined to be dismissive of Self Mastery - which is a bit like the child who sees an adult spending money to buy toys, and fails to recognise the daily grind of work which has led to having the money.
  • My favourite action movie of all time is "Gandhi". However, I loathe the stereotypical action movie - and, for similar reasons, I loathe many dramas, which are often emotionally violent, more so in some cases than many war films.

Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it is not haphazard and superficial. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

Few men are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, and the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world which yields most painfully to change." SENATOR ROBERT F. KENNEDY (US Attorney General 1966 Speech)
