I’ve realised that I didn’t, as I thought, start down the path that
would lead me to identifying phagic attack with the Jim Butcher book “Proven Guilty”, from the Dresden Files: I started
down that path quite a few years before, when someone I know mentioned entities
that feed off the energies of transition at death.
Not a pleasant thought, that one, is it? And I’m not so sure that that
person had it right.
There is, however, something to consider on all this from the world of
Nature: bacteria and moulds etc.
Now, there are all types of bacteria and other small and microscopic
critters – most doing useful things like … helping our body live (e.g., helping our food break down so it can
absorbed), cleaning up dead skin cells so we don’t look a walking parody of
a dandruff ad, and helping to recycle dead creatures – plant and animal.
Some of the earliest of these small and microscopic critters started
doing to job of building up the oxygen in our atmosphere, a few billions years
ago, so that we could actually come into existence in this form. (If they hadn’t, I wonder if we’d all have been
methane breathers? I can think of all sorts of jokes about that … and I won’t
go anywhere near any of them!)
The point is, these small and microscopic critters play an invaluable
part of life, and are a healthy part of life … until they become prevalent, or
present in excessive numbers. (A bit like
humans, really.) The people who sell those concoction of beneficial
bacteria for us to drink so that different colours rush around our digestive
systems (after all, those ads are all so
accurate and literal, aren’t they … * ) are using that principle. If
someone is looking at the health of a soil, they might do things like … count
the number of species of ants –the more types
(i.e., species) of ants, the healthier that soil is.
Our compost heaps work, not because things just fall apart at death, as
if the leaving of the spirit causes the undoing of physical laws, but because
small and microscopic critters actively chew through and break down the
material in the compost heap.
Now, isn’t it just possible, that a Universe which could create
something like that in the physical, could also create something like that in
the non-physical?
Hmm?
That would suggest that a certain amount of stray negativity gets
‘mopped up’ by natural cleaners, just as stray rubbish in the physical gets
‘mopped up’ by Nature’s cleaners, the small and microscopic critters. However,
just as physical cleaners in an office may find cleaning up after an end of
year office party overwhelming, and bacteria in a municipal landfill may be so
overwhelmed that it takes a long time to do their job of breaking things down,
so too can the astral equivalent of the small and microscopic critters (I must come up with an acronym for them …
SMCs … SMaCS … maybe not) become overwhelmed by the amount of astral
garbage being put out by negative human emotion arising from the soulless life
of suburbia, and a few little things ** like a few billion people living in
desperate poverty …
So, these astral … cleaners, I’ll call them (sounds nicer than scavengers, but that also fits – particularly if one
looks at the example of the physical world) basically do a good job. (And I’ve decided to extend my set of roles
for Ranger work to include someone to do some cleaning up afterwards.)
Are they what cause phagic attack?
No.
Phagic attack is where some one or some thing deliberately provoke
these negative reactions, or provokes positive emotions to a point that becomes
addictive. A vacuum cleaner is not guilty of creating the mess it cleans up …
but the humans who live there could be responsible for creating an excessive
amount of mess after a party – and if that is not maliciously (e.g., throwing rubbish over a neighbours
fence, which happened to me once … until I calmly pointed out that I would call
the police if it continued), that is the equivalent of phagic attack.
I’ve identified phagic attack based on fear, outrage and pain (the latter including stress and exhaustion),
and have found that I have to focus on managing the effects rather than go
after the sources (yet!), but am also considering
the possibility of addictions to positive emotions. If I find any, I might post about that … but I might not
as well.
And now … ‘tis time to go and shower off the dead skin cells that the
small and microscopic critters on my skin have missed or been overwhelmed by :)

- Our entire life experience, with all the many wondrous and varied people, places and events in it, is too small a sample for statistical reliability about Life.

Indolence vs. perspicacity, and expediency vs. honour.

However, I loathe the stereotypical action movie - and, for similar reasons, I loathe many dramas, which are often emotionally violent, more so in some cases than many war films.
- All of the above - and this blog - could be wrong, or subject to context, perspective, or state of spiritual evolution ...

Few men are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, and the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world which yields most painfully to change." SENATOR ROBERT F. KENNEDY (US Attorney General 1966 Speech)
Too much and too long, we seem to have
surrendered community excellence and community values in the mere
accumulation of material things. Our gross national product ... if we
should judge America by that -- counts air pollution and cigarette
advertising, and ambulances to clear our highways of carnage. ... Yet
the gross national product does not allow for the health of our
children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play. It
does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our
marriages; the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our
public officials. It measures neither our wit nor our courage; neither
our wisdom nor our learning; neither our compassion nor our devotion to
our country; it measures everything, in short, except that which makes
life worthwhile." ROBERT F. KENNEDY 1968
