Something I have posted about previously is the Lesser Banishing Ritual
of the Pentagram (LBRP), which is basically generally considered to be a
Hermetic ritual that has been fairly widely through New Age and some other
spiritual/psychic movements.
One of the things I was taught some years ago was a modified version of
this, considered by my teacher at the time to be an Egyptian version of the
LBRP. Now, as far as I know, the Ancient Egyptians did not use anything similar to this – for all I know they may have,
but I consider that if they had, some evidence of it would have been found by
now and proudly claimed by someone or another. So … my view is that this a
modern creation, an example of that Unverified Personal Gnosis (UPG) that some
people don’t like – and perhaps it is, or perhaps it is cultural appropriation
or blending that some people don’t like
(particularly purists). I consider that some of it comes from Israel
Regardie’s work – the structure and the thinking certainly seems Hermetic to
me, so I tend to view it as a translation of the LBRP into another language.
However, I do know
that I find this extraordinarily effective at raising magickal energy for me.
One thing I haven’t chased through, though, is what changes to make in
this for the Southern Hemisphere. The elements and the directions are not
correct for us …
So, for better or worse, here ‘tis.
(1) Beginning a Ritual

Stand facing the East, and
imagine a beam of brilliant light – so brilliant you cannot discern its colour
–coming down and touching the top of your head. Reach up with your index and
middle fingers to connect to the pure brilliance, and then bring your paired
fingers down to ..
1.1 (a) touch your forehead,
and then vibrate “Entek Pau” (phonetically: “EN-TEK POW”),
meaning (according to Israel Regardie, with a slight modification of mine)
“Thou art Deity who is …”;
1.1 (b) touch the centre
of your chest,
and then vibrate “ta Sutenit” (phonetically: "TAH SU-TEN-IT"),
meaning (according to Israel Regardie) “the Kingdom”;
1.1 (c) touch your right
shoulder,
and then vibrate “ta Sachem” (phonetically: "TAH SAHK-HEM"),
meaning (according to Israel Regardie) “the Divine Power”;
1.1 (d) touch your left
shoulder,
and then vibrate “ta Djesser” (phonetically: “TAH D-JES-ER),
meaning (according to Israel Regardie) “and the Glory”;
1.1 (e) fold your hands at
the centre of your chest,
and then vibrate “ta Taui en Hah” (phonetically: "TAH TOW-EE-EN-HAH"),
meaning (according to Israel Regardie) “the World, Forever”.
1.1 (f) vibrate “Nedj Her”
(phonetically: "NED-J-HER"),
meaning (according to Israel Regardie) “Homage to Thee”.
1.2 Sigils to the Quarters
1.2 (a) Go to
or face east, and then
- draw an ankh
(good for protection; according to
Regardie, symbolises eternal life, and to draw “start on the left side at the
point where the circle meets the crossbar and, drawing in a clockwise motion,
trace the circular "head" of the ankh. Next, trace the shaft of the
ankh, leading from the middle of the crossbar to the lowest point of the shaft.
Finally, start at the left point of the crossbar and move straight across to
the right point of the crossbar”)
or a wedjat
(Eye of Horus; according to Regardie,
symbolises health, wholeness, protection and general well being, and to draw “start at the left point of the eyebrow line
and trace clockwise. Next, trace the outline of the eye itself, starting from
the left and proceeding clockwise, around the pupil, and back around the bottom
of the eyelid, ending at the left side of the eye near the starting point. Then
trace the lowermost line of the figure starting from the right-hand point and
tracing towards the left”)
vibrating, as you do so, “Nudjeru Yebeta” (phonetically: "NUD-JEH-RU YEH-BEH-TAH", probably
meaning “Deities of the East”,
- then touch the centre of the sigil, and simultaneously vibrate “NEF” (meaning Air);
1.2 (b) Carry
line to or face south,
- draw sigil, vibrating,
as you do so, “Nudjeru Resu” (phonetically:
"NUD-JEH-RU REH-SU", meaning, according to Regardie,
“Deities of the South”,
- touch the centre of the sigil,
and simultaneously vibrate "ASH " (meaning Air);
1.2 (c) Carry
line to or face west,
- draw sigil, vibrating,
as you do so, “Nudjeru Amenta” (phonetically:
"NUD-JEH-RU AH-MEN-TAH ", meaning, according to Regardie,
“Deities of the West”,
- touch the centre of the sigil, and
simultaneously vibrate “MU"
(meaning Water);
1.2 (d) Carry
line to or face north,
- draw sigil, vibrating,
as you do so, “Nudjeru Mehta” (phonetically:
"NUD-JEH-RU MEH-TAH", meaning, according to Regardie,
“Deities of the North”,
- touch the centre of the sigil,
and simultaneously vibrate (phonetically: ""AH – DOH – NYE" (meaning Earth);
1.2 (e) Carry line to or
face east completing circle and return to centre. If I wish to be sure of the
protection, I will then repeat the sigil, thinking of this as
"locking" the circle. Regardie writes to repeat the Egyptian Cross,
but I do not find this necessary.
1.3 Invocation of Deities
1.3 (a) Stand
with arms outstretched,
- then visualise a great
beam of bright light coming down from above, and passing through the vertical
axis of your body, followed by a great beam of bright light from the side (I generally use the right
side as the source)
and passing through the heart, thus creating a great cross of light;
1.3b Then say the
following:
"Before , HATHOOR, the
Mother of Light,
behind me, TOUM of the setting sun,
on my right hand, SAKHMET, mighty lady of Flame,
on my left hand, HAPI-WER, the Bull of the Earth,
for about me flames SEHEDJ, a heaven of stars,
and above me shines TAU NUDHER, the star of Deity."
