Post No. 3,102 - Reflections on the past week, and some interesting reading/viewing [Content Warning - oppression/bigotry/hate/violence/abuse/war. Reader discretion is advised]

Note: CONTENT WARNING - some of this content is about upsetting, disturbing or triggering events & attitudes. Seek competent help - including professional - if you need it. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are advised that linked articles may contains names and/or images of deceased people. READER CAUTION IS RECOMMENDED! For anyone distressed by anything in this post, or for any other reason considering seeking support, resources are available in Australia here, here, and here. In other nations, you will have to do an Internet search using terms such as mental health support - <your nation>(which, for instance, may lead to this, this, and this, in the USA, or this, this, and this, in France [biased towards English-language - my apologies]), or perhaps try https://www.befrienders.org/

The purposes of this post are:

(1) to provide information, including news, which may be of interest, value, or use to Readers;

(2) to identify both BPM and nonBPM opportunities to do the work of this blog (particularly clearing nonBPM nonphysical  units,   BPM  healing,   and   BPM  strengthening of BPM units - the news items helps draw in/helps me find those people and other units in need of any of the help I can provide);   and

(3) to help engage and frame my emotional, mental, and other nonphysical (psychic, spiritual, Higher Self, BPM  Guides, etc) aspects both for doing my weekly PWR and for doing the work that flows from the PWR - which may also occur for some others.

Some of the news information will likely be distressing - hence the content warning, to allow people to choose times they have high energy and/or are in a good state to view these, or to ensure they have access to support resources if they may be triggered, or to choose to either temporarily or permanently skip viewing this post or the News sections, as is best for their health and wellbeing.

Within the news section, I generally try to identify what is considered “good” news in green, possibly also with green background, but owing to time, energy, and health limitations, may not always be able to do so.

URLs of sources of news and/or information are included as in-text hyperlinks.

News:

On the existential climate crisis and nuclear threats this week:      a new The Guardian environment project:   The 89% project, which is the percentage of people who want more done about the climate crisis;       an analysis of climate crisis emissions by Australia’s two largest parties finds the conservatives are over claiming alleged benefits, whereas the ALP’s policies will be of benefit, although probably not enough;      extreme temperature variations have caused (“a “rare atmospheric phenomenon” had caused   ...   ‘induced atmospheric vibration’”) a massive power outage in Spain and Portugal;      a US court has ordered the EPA to consider the effects of fracking and drilling;      “Australians’ support for nuclear power ban rises despite Dutton’s best efforts to sell atomic future, survey finds”

In the global war against the radical right/f_s c_sm (including their networks, and their goose-stepping thugs - who can, must, and will be held to account for their sadistic abuses and usurpations that have been so egregiously destructive of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness) this week (and for links on what can be done - now, see Resistance Labs, “How to Think (and Act) Like a Dissident Movement” (The Bulwark), here [Indivisible], Hands Off 2025, and Dem-Optimism and this [Robert Reich] and this [AOC] and this [Devon Price] aand this [PBS Voices] and this [on burnout] and this [efficacy of nonviolent protest] and this book and this book and this and these links ):

A global liberal fightback / backlash is underway - and some lessons from Poland’s past;      a critique of a proposal for US democrats which has good elements (such as a shadow cabinet), but needed the correction that woke is NOT weak;      further to the premise of Anne Applebaum’s Autocracy, Inc. (Penguin, 2024, ISBN 978-1-802-06213-7; reviews by NPR, Foreign Affairs magazine, Good Reading; purchase at Penguin, Kobo, Apple Books, Amazon), an editorial on “Argentina’s bailout   ...   The deal with Javier Milei shows how America-first dealmaking is bending global finance to serve authoritarian and extractive ends” (and causing others to adopt far right extremist measures);      world press freedom has declined massively under the current US regime - which has just cut funding to public channels;

Overall/in summary, reviewing a range (remember, this is global, not USA-focused) of press reports and commentary has left me with the following impressions:   the brazenry of those who feel unheard or ignored or that their existence is threatened has grown in leaps and bounds - encouraged by the acts of others of their ilk.

Also in the USA, where their current president, who has been persistently  sanewashed by the mainstream  media, has committed abuses and usurpations that are egregiously destructive of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, this week, we have:

§   on the arrest of judges,   powerful legal and public outrage at the current US regime arresting a judge for allegedly obstructing immigration officials - which is considered likely a threat to those who are considered to have helped immigrants, and may be extended - see also this analysis;       in a measure of distrust of the increasingly duplicitous DoJ, judges are ordering copies of transcripts be included in material for other courts;

§   On rendition, deportations, and associated legal matters,  two criticisms (exile is cruel & unconstitutional” [and from the videos comments: “Reminder : “I was following orders” is not a valid defence”] - and see also this) of recent deportation developments - especially the deportation of children (some with advanced cancer) and/or US citizens - as the release of some detainees is ordered (one judge “wrote that the government “failed to demonstrate any legitimate interest in Mr Mahdawi’s continued confinement” and that his “continued detention would likely have a chilling effect on protected speech””);

§   also,   in a sanity questioning act, the current US president openly tried to get a journalist to accept a clearly doctored photo as real - in a public interview (during which his refusal to accept responsibility led to him being dubbed president bystander) ... and has made another sanity questioning threat against a mainstream press outlet, and several sources have declared a doubt about the current US president’s fitness to serve as President of the United States;      as data shows the wealth destruction in the USA over the last 100 days (which has also caused world reactions discussed here, security problems for Mexico, and erosion of global human rights) and a Congressional record is made of 100 acts of corruption of the current US regime (and market manipulation is being investigated), an assessment of when M_ G_ supporters will become upset or angry (basically, when their personal hip pockets are hit - and the US economy is shrinking);       concerns over the erosion of the separation of church and state (see also here, here, here, here, here);      job cuts will delay the start of a programme to reduce sexual assaults, deaths by suicide, and other problems;      a growing hunger crisis in the USA;      in a sign of the potential benefits of resisting, a major corporation has ditched a legal firm that bent the knee to the current US regime in favour of one that didn’t.

This week, noting this call to bear  witness (further noting the cautions on hate speech here, here, here, and here,   and this and these “links for activism”,   see the decision on the “Legal Consequences arising from the Policies and Practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem”, and note this pending [and disputed] case [South Africa v. Israel] regarding alleged genocide and this pending [and disputed] case regarding the “Obligations of Israel in relation to the Presence and Activities of the United Nations, Other International Organisations and Third States in and in relation to the Occupied Palestinian Territory” from the ICJ), the Israel-Palestine war has seen:

§   on a ceasefire/hostages,   H___s claims to be open to freeing hostages, given a five-year truce in Gaza;

§   on human rights and broad/general issue,   as this impact statement is released and Amnesty International [has] said Israel is committing a “live-streamed genocide” against Palestinians in Gaza by targeting critical infrastructure, displacing most of the enclave’s inhabitants and depriving them of life-saving aid. Amnesty added that Israel had also committed numerous war crimes and created an apartheid  state in the West  Bank (there is a formal case  before the ICJ on the genocide issue, with preliminary  directions but no final finding as yet - and this is separate to the ICC warrants against Israeli and H___s leaders), and a warning is made that the Two State solution may be becoming impossible (although France [and maybe the UK] is working towards recognition of Palestine), Israel has stopped mentioning humanitarian zones ...  and Palestinian children go to bed starving and the risk of mass starvation rises ...

§   regionally,   Jordan, which, together with Egypt, prevented a Two State Solution in 1948 as it wanted Palestinian land for itself, is emulating the USA’s ethnic cleansing plan by forcibly evicting Palestinian refugees for urban development projects;

§   internationally,   a civilian NGO aid fleet has been attacked by drones, suspected to be Israeli, in international  waters - see here (Wikipedia) for what appears to be a reasonable factual summary (including the history of such aid attempts) at the time this was published (more information will likely be available later), and here for an example of Israeli media reports;

§   elsewhere,  an examination of why “The pro-Israel campaign to ‘protect’ Jews by punishing anti-Zionist speech often targets Jews”;      a US police force is being taught Islamophobic information;      a mob has tried to attack a woman they WRONGLY thought was a protestor against an Israeli government minister.

In other international news, including the illegal and unprovoked war against Ukraine (noting the pending [and disputed] alleged genocide cases for The Gambia v. Myanmar, with seven States intervening,   Ukraine v. Russian Federation,   Sudan v. United Arab Emirates at the ICJ and these “links for activism”):

§   India-Pakistan tensions in response to last week's attack in Kashmir,   Indian and Pakistani troops have continued to exchange fire as India’s suspension of Indus Waters Treaty raises legal and regional stability concerns and subsequent Indian actions in Kashmir are described as collective punishment,   and nuclear armed Pakistan claims to have credible intelligence that India will attack “within days”   ...   and a call is made to listen to Kashmiri voices;

§   On the USA’s tariff war against its own citizens and the rest of the world,    as the US economy shrinks and the US Senate rejects a resolution to block the tariffs, a rebuttal of claims by the current US president that he has made a large number of trade deals - but China is considering  US pleas for talks;

§   on Ukraine,  Ukraine and its allies, which “will ‘increase pressure on Russia’ in coming days” (and the EU has stated it will not recognise Crimea as part of Russia), have been working on security guarantees potentially similar to NATO Article 5 as the USA signals support for Europe’s proposed peacekeeping coalition in Ukraine.      Russia, which MAY be shifting its war aims towards holding invaded land and rebuilding the Russian economy, offered a limited truce for VE day, but Ukraine criticised that as manipulative, calling instead for an unconditional 30 day truce, and pointing out the truce could start immediately - and warning that Russia appears to be “preparing something” in Belarus.   Meanwhile, a brief one-on-one meeting between Presidents Zelens'kyi and Trump in the Vatican basilica was described as productive, with Trump this week reportedly doubting Putin’s willingness to end war in Ukraine (nut overstating the weekly death toll) and threatening sanctions (the EU is imposing additional sanctions), and Estonia’s president saying Trump won’t abandon the Ukraine peace process.      Later in the week, Ukraine and the USA signed a rare earths minerals  agreement - which provides economic incentive for the USA to continue supporting Ukraine’s defence and a fairer approach for Ukraine - see this for an objective assessment of the limited importance of the agreement ... but there has been a subsequent sale of military equipment after a prolonged freeze ...

  • Ukraine has been shocked by the extent of torture of captive journalist whose body was returned to Ukraine, with at least 30 more Ukrainian journalists still in Russian hands, and little known about their health conditions or whereabouts and multiple reports that Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) are tortured and killed while in Russian captivity - leading to profound doubts about the value of International Humanitarian Law.

§   elsewhere,   a warning millions will die from aid cuts;      Iraq and Sudan have reactivated a security pact,   Sudan and Egypt are discussing post-war (is that a little premature?) reconstruction and water security,   and mutual aid groups are rebuilding in territory recovered by the Sudanese army;      UK and EU sanctions on Syria are being eased as steps are being taken towards a special domestic court in Syria to prosecute the former al-Assad regime;      Canada has elected a progressive government  determined to govern for all (see this outstanding acceptance speech) and overcome  US bullying and threats - but see also this cautionary opinion piece;      middle income nations will collaborate with each other;      the USA has destroyed its capacity to fight against the disinformation war;      right wing authoritarian Hungary has withdrawn from the ICC;      Algeria is preparing to streamline mobilisation as tensions grow with neighbouring Mali and Morocco;      disinformation is being used to fuel support for the junta leader in Burkina Faso;

§   from history,   a powerful critique and criticism of journalistic reporting of the Việt Nam War (“...   “I can assure you that there was never any retraction [of the wrong reports of the Gulf of Tonkin  incident].”   When I asked why not, Marder’s voice was tinged with sorrow. “If you were making a retraction,” he said, “you’d have to make a retraction of virtually everyone’s entire coverage of the Vietnam war.” He added: “If the American press had been doing its job and the Congress had been doing its job, we would never have been involved.”   ...   In March 1968, US army soldiers killed several hundred unarmed civilians of all ages in the Vietnamese village of My Lai. Within months, “evidence of the massacre was presented to top national news media by Vietnam veteran Ron Ridenhour and others, but not one outlet would touch the story”, my RootsAction colleague Jeff Cohen has pointed out. “It wasn’t until November 1969, more than a year and a half after the My Lai slaughter, that the story was finally published by the small, alternative Dispatch News Service and dogged investigative reporter Seymour Hersh.””)

In human  rights  news:

§   genocide and multiple issues,   a Red Flag genocide alert for the USA’s proposed autism  registry - which may cause a false drop in autism numbers as people hide out of fear of authoritarianism;      in a move straight from the incompetent, amathiac and hate-fuelled US far right, the UK will use autism as an excuse to kill more trans children;      witness accounts of genocide in Darfur, Sudan (again);

  • “Autistic Doom? Dragging Us Back to The Dark Ages?”   https://youtu.be/S1UzKdKdgdM   “If you're autistic & worried by the recent rhetoric about us in the news, then you're not alone. This has happened before, but this time it's different. Is this the first step on a slippery slope? Or might this not be as dark as we fear?”   This begins from, and builds on, comparing the current hate to the fraudulent  research  paper - aka lies - published by an unethical physician and co-authors in 1998

§   trans, gender diverse, and non-binary people,      a protests and a letter with signatures from 400 public figures demonstrate the level of support for trans people in the UK as a UK Minister confirms trans people basically cannot leave home, UK sport implements transphobia, a former civil servant has pointed out that the recent UK supreme court decision directly contravened the intent of the Equality Act - and trans people (particularly older trans people, who have been transitioned for decades) are in shock;       the current US regime has, in line with the patriarchal toxic masculinity of fascism, announced “it will declare gender-affirming care "not supported" by evidence in a new, pseudoscientific report — contradicting numerous peer-reviewed studies demonstrating positive outcomes” and commission a review that is “expected to follow the same playbook as Governor DeSantis’ Florida Board of Medicine review and the Cass Review in England — both of which excluded gender-affirming care experts and were engineered to justify crackdowns on care (the Cass Review utilised people who do not treat transgender patients or who push conversion therapy-like practices). When the rubbish was released, this critique debunked it:   “Fact Check: Trump's HHS Review On Trans Care Filled With Lies, Pseudoscience”   https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/fact-check-trumps-hhs-review-on-trans   “It names no authors, has no peer-reviewed process, and bears no hallmarks of legitimate scientific inquiry—just a faceless document no one was willing to claim. Among its recommendations: conversion therapy for trans youth, the reclassification of social transition as medical treatment, and an absurd assertion that transgender care should be judged not by patient well-being or satisfaction but by “employability” and the presence of “romantic partners.””

§   white supremacism and racism,   the abuses of Stolen Generations children included given them - and at least one two year old toddler - a criminal record;        more commentary on the racist attack on and a subsequent cancellation of Indigenous ceremonies;

§   refugees, IDPs, and migrants,   an explanation of how host communities gain from empowering refugees” as the Dominican Republic’s new health protocol is criticised for discriminating against migrants and hundreds of thousands of Afghan refugees are being sent back into danger by forced return (refoulement);

§   animal rights,   an explanation of why hundreds of koalas were shot in an aerial cull in Victoria (a major bushfire had wiped out their food supply, leaving them starving - the article also describes why the method was chosen, and how it was verified)

In societal and governance matters:      a coronial inquest into a mass fatality stabbing attack has been told the sole CCTV operator was using the bathroom when the attack started, which led to problems for the response (and that reminds me of the fight I had in engineering to make sure there were trained operators to cover sick days, annual leave, etc, although these circumstances may be different [e.g., a second operator may have been ill, or some other factor]);      concerns about possibly racist attitudes in Australia’s election campaign as the conservative coalition leader is criticised as ‘illiberal’ for calling ABC and the Guardian ‘hate media’ - see also this assessment (MeidasTouch Network);      an excellent proposal for a housing policy to promote social cohesion;       a cautionary note about teaching economics in schools;      disturbing reports of election-related violence in NSW;      “Humanitarian assistance has been a lifeline, and an alternative to state authority.   ...   Aid cuts push South Sudan into uncharted territory”;      AI and censorship threats to journalism

From a spiritual perspective:      the need for commitment to integrity is paramount, this week.

On the resistance to fascism:

  • There are some similarities to current world events in this:   “Stalin and Tito fight over the Balkans: Greek Civil War part 2 - W2W 24 - 1948 Q4”   https://youtu.be/xRj_cdmkbT4

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).
