Post No. 3,108 - Reflections on the past week, and some interesting reading/viewing [Content Warning - oppression/bigotry/hate/violence/abuse/war. Reader discretion is advised]

Note: CONTENT WARNING - some of this content is about upsetting, disturbing or triggering events & attitudes. Seek competent help - including professional - if you need it. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are advised that linked articles may contains names and/or images of deceased people. READER CAUTION IS RECOMMENDED! For anyone distressed by anything in this post, or for any other reason considering seeking support, resources are available in Australia here, here, and here. In other nations, you will have to do an Internet search using terms such as mental health support - <your nation>(which, for instance, may lead to this, this, and this, in the USA, or this, this, and this, in France [biased towards English-language - my apologies]), or perhaps try https://www.befrienders.org/

The purposes of this post are:

(1) to provide information, including news, which may be of interest, value, or use to Readers;

(2) to identify both BPM and nonBPM opportunities to do the work of this blog (particularly clearing nonBPM nonphysical  units,   BPM  healing,   and   BPM  strengthening of BPM units - the news items helps draw in/helps me find those people and other units in need of any of the help I can provide);   and

(3) to help engage and frame my emotional, mental, and other nonphysical (psychic, spiritual, Higher Self, BPM  Guides, etc) aspects both for doing my weekly PWR and for doing the work that flows from the PWR - which may also occur for some others.

Some of the news information will likely be distressing - hence the content warning, to allow people to choose times they have high energy and/or are in a good state to view these, or to ensure they have access to support resources if they may be triggered, or to choose to either temporarily or permanently skip viewing this post or the News sections, as is best for their health and wellbeing.

Within the news section, I generally try to identify what is considered “good” news in green, possibly also with green background, but owing to time, energy, and health limitations, may not always be able to do so.

URLs of sources of news and/or information are included as in-text hyperlinks.

News:

On the existential climate crisis and nuclear threats this week:      scientific societies have voluntarily taken on the performance of a climate assessment after the current US regime dismissed those working on that task;      Canada’s Supreme Court has rejected a government appeal against a decision that a province’s climate policy is subject to the constitution, which paved the way for a final decision in a youth-led case;      An examination of what is needed to provide Australia with the renewable energy future it has demanded - including honesty, genuine local engagement, energy storage, and “more than policy and investment. It requires humility from the sector, collaboration across all levels of government and a genuine commitment to partnering with regional Australia.”

  • “The most important news of the day”   https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/05/08/the-most-important-news-of-the-day/   “The truth is, though, that the most important news of the day is buried deep in the pages of the FT, where it has been reported that:   “Scientists' fears of a breach of the 1.5C warming level set down in the Paris accord escalated, after the latest data showing the monthly average global temperature had topped the threshold for 21 out of the past 22 months.””

In the global war against the radical right/f_s c_sm (including their social Darwinists and their networks, and their goose-stepping thugs - who can, must, and will be held to account for their sadistic abuses and usurpations that have been so egregiously destructive of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness) this week (and for links on what can be done - now, see Resistance Labs, “How to Think (and Act) Like a Dissident Movement” (The Bulwark), here [Indivisible], Hands Off 2025, and Dem-Optimism and this [Robert Reich] and this [AOC] and this [Devon Price] aand this [PBS Voices] and this [on burnout] and this [efficacy of nonviolent protest] and this book and this book and this and these links ):

§   On hope/the crushing of hope and other harms,   An examination of the devastating damage done by neoliberalism;      attempts at indoctrinating children into fascism - and shifting the  Overton  window;

§   On world actions/reactions,   as the current US president’s approval continues to plummet in the USA, another election - in Australia - has rejected the current US regime’s politics, and, following the resounding votes in Canada and Australia against “anything that looked vaguely aligned with the thinking of” the current US president and against divisive culture wars, this critiques and criticises the current UK government for pandering the far right extremists who are aligned the thinking of the current US president;      a reminder of the months of protests for democracy in Serbia - and of the need to protest for a better future;      an assessment that the UK is being attacked and is at risk - but not from scapegoated minorities, rather it is by the ultra-rich;      more mass trials of opposition figures in Tunisia;

§   On the management of risks to democracy,   Germany’s domestic intelligence agency has, as part of its obligation to defend democracy (and I wish others had that specific duty! ... and the USA is even downsizing its intelligence agencies ... ), officially  designated a political party as an extremist group over its attempts to 'undermine the free, democratic' order in the country, which enables more surveillance and triggered debates about banning that organisation, and criticism from the USA which has been  rejected;      it appears that the current US use of Soviet/n_ z_ style  street abductions and involuntary/enforced disappearances (and the USA has NOT  signed up to the convention  against  enforced  disappearances) by unidentified people is aimed at training bystanders to NOT react - which will also aid criminal abductions;     a US state jury has ordered an Israeli cybersecurity company to pay around US$440,000 in compensation to a social media platform for using spyware on the platform;

§   On strong democracy and good governance,   Australia’s rejection of US-style right wing culture wars must lead to courage and vision, including strong action on housing supply, inequality and climate. The unexpected result in one state also shows the problem with media meekly, uncritically, lazily and unprofessionally accepting right wing media assertions that the state government was supposedly deeply unpopular with voters (as opposed to the rich moguls who owned the right media outlets);      in the USA, as plans of the current US regime to “destroy elections” are revealed, anger and resistance is rising - with US police taking on the role of crushing opposition;     a powerful call for Democrats to do better;

Overall/in summary, reviewing a range (remember, this is global, not USA-focused) of press reports and commentary has left me with the following impressions:   fascists are clearly feeling emboldened from the lack of consequences for their wrongdoing and their acts of hate and evil.

Also in the USA, where their current president, who has been persistently  sanewashed by the mainstream  media, has committed abuses and usurpations that are egregiously destructive of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, this week, we have:

§   On fitness for duty, including psychological, of the current US president,   in addition to concerns that, based on, in part, accusations of “display[ing] ‘pathological megalomania’” (and “‘mocking’ Catholics after posting an [AI] image of himself as pope” as cardinals gather to elect a new pope after death of Francis), incoherent announcements, and nonsensical social media posts, the 25th Amendment to the US constitution may need to be used, the current US president has claimed - despite the words of his oath - that “he doesn’t know if he needs to uphold constitutional due process”In addition, a mainstream media outlet has been caught out editing an interview with the current US president in a way that looks like sanewashing ... ;

§   On rendition, deportations, and associated legal matters,   as a threat is made to arrest a US state governor, a US Supreme Court Justice has warned that the current US regime’s attacks on the judiciary are designed to intimate the judiciary and attack US democracy;      success has been reported for a legal case by a large group of law firms against the current US president’s executive orders targeting legal firms;      federal judges have temporarily blocked deportations under the archaic Enemy Aliens Act;      the current US regime’s claims of connections between the Venezuelan government and a Venezuelan gang have been shown to be wrong by US intelligence;

§   On ethics,   noting concerning examples of compliance, a warning against referring to CORRUPTION as “potential conflicts of interest”;

§   Also,   the current US president has proposed a US$163 billion cut to non-defence funds (education, health, climate, etc) but a boost to military spending;      the prospect of reopening and expanding a notoriousoutdated prison has been raised;      excuses and pretexts to cover advocacy for patriarchy;      the possibility of 8 million US residents losing health care MIGHT lead to budget changes;      the USA is suffering from its self-created brain drain;

This week, noting this call to bear  witness (further noting the cautions on hate speech here, here, here, and here,   and this and these “links for activism”,   see the decision on the “Legal Consequences arising from the Policies and Practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem”, and note this pending [and disputed] case [South Africa v. Israel] regarding alleged genocide and this pending [and disputed] case regarding the “Obligations of Israel in relation to the Presence and Activities of the United Nations, Other International Organisations and Third States in and in relation to the Occupied Palestinian Territory” from the ICJ), the Israel-Palestine war has seen:

§   on land seizure and/or possible ethnic cleansing,   hours after starting to call up tens of thousands of reservists, with a carefully timed and alarming announcement (possibly aimed at pressuring H___s and/or placating the far right sections of the Israeli government), Israel’s security cabinet has unanimously approved a military offensive that would consolidate the seizure of Gazan land - aka “include the “conquest of the Gaza Strip” and moving the enclave’s remaining population to the south “for their protection”” - or what seems to be ethnic  cleansing;

§   on aid/humanitarian issuee,   as Gazans continue to struggle to survive, an Israeli attempt to weaponise/militarise aid has been rejected ... and now a pack of US military/security people want to do the weaponising/militarisation of aid on Israel’s behalf;

In other international news, including the illegal and unprovoked war against Ukraine (noting the pending [and disputed] alleged genocide cases for The Gambia v. Myanmar, with seven States intervening,   Ukraine v. Russian Federation,   Sudan v. United Arab Emirates at the ICJ and these “links for activism”):

§   on Ukraine,   as Russia’s president makes a thinly veiled threat (the need to use them “has not arisen in Ukraine”, and “he hopes nuclear strikes ‘will not be required’”) about the use of nuclear weapons,   Ukraine will receive US air defence systems, more European munitions, and training of its pilots by the Czech republic;      a former US vice president has corrected the current US president by pointing out that Russia’s president Putin does NOT want peace, he wants Ukraine;      Europe is preparing more sanctions against Russia, and to completely  end use of Russian gas;      as Latvia reports Russian Baltic Sea provocations are increasing the risk of accidental military incidents and France identifies 80 Russian anti-Ukraine disinformation campaigns, Lithuania prepares to put anti-tank land mines on its border (and to leave [“denounce”] the anti-personnel landmine treaty so it can use those as well) and the UK is updating its classified “homeland defence plan” in response to repeated threats of attack from Russia;      an examination of Ukraine’s well managed and improved economic strength, as opposed to authoritarian and oligarchic Russia’s weakness;

§   on the India-Pakistan tensions in response to a mass fatality attack on tourists in Kashmir,   following the massacre which put the lie to the Indian Prime Minister’s claims that all was well in Kashmir and subsequently increasing and concerning tensions, India has attacked  Pakistan  with  missiles - which Pakistan has defended  against, described as an act of war, and vowed vengeance for.   See this assessment that neither can afford war (also this), but there is no-one likely to talk them down ...      The Lemkin Institute has issued statements about the original t_rr_r_st attack and the escalating violence between India and Pakistan, and the ICG has also issued thoughts on avoiding war.

§   on other wars/conflicts / threats/risks,   Israel has performed additional military attacks in Syria which it claims are to protect the Druze minority;      the current US president has not ruled out using military force to control Greenland ... or against Mexico;

§   On the USA’s tariff    and   class warfare   war against its own citizens and the rest of the world,   Japan has warned the USA it demands respect and will not yield to bullying;

§   Elsewhere,  King Charles, sovereign of the UK and Canada, will open Canada’s Parliament as Canada’s Prime Minister reacts to various US threats;      “hundreds of activists stage Mali’s first pro-democracy rally in years since coups”;      a former extreme right president of Brazil is trying to do for Brazilian insurrectionists the same as the current US president did for insurrectionists in the USA ... ;      the recent mass fatality explosion in an Iranian port may be evidence of a weapons link between Iran and China;      thousands of Panamanians have marched in the largest protest yet against an agreement signed last month giving US troops access to strategic air and naval facilities;      Sudan has cut diplomatic ties with the UAE;      Nigeria is holding a national summit and talks with China over insecurity/security;

§   On journalism/the press,  as the USA compels one media platform to use right wing sources, calls to protect journalists in Syria, investigate journalist deaths in Nepal, investigate spyware attacks against journalists in Italy,and condemnation of Iran’s crackdown on freedom of the press and the decline of press freedom in Kosovo;

In human  rights  news:

§   on LGBTQIASB+ - especially TGDNB - issues,   one US state governor has vetoed anti-trans measures, telling the legislature to “focus on real issues that matter”;      the UK court decision being celebrated by, amongst others, a group identified by the Lemkin Institute as genocidal, will make trans lives unlivable;      more cisgender women being attacked by transphobic amathiacs for not meeting the transphobe’s stereotypical ideas of what cisgender women are “supposed” to look like;      five US state Democratic (DINOs? - Democrats in name only?) senators have decided to become transphobes;      more blatant lies by gender criticals;      experts have condemned the pseudoscientific anti-trans written rant from the current US regime;      the US supreme court has gutlessly chosen to enable the vile, animus-soaked act of active hate involved in the military ban on trans people - DESPITE active cases against it;      a notorious US transphobe has just displayed her appalling ableist ignorance;

§   Genocide,  the ICJ has had to dismiss Sudan’s complaint of genocide against the UAE as the latter has an exception putting the matter outside ICJ jurisdiction;

§   On dissent,  the UK Court of Appeal has upheld a ruling that found 2023 protest regulations, which shifted the bar down from “serious disruption” to “more than minor” disruption, unlawful;

In societal and governance matters:      following the sweeping election result in Australia, voter expectations include courage & vision,   real action on housing supply, inequality and climate change, and a better economy;      an alleged bomb plot against a visiting celebrity in Brazil “with the aim of “gaining notoriety on social media”” has been foiled by Brazilian police (and this is further support for the “no notoriety” campaign);      the problem of imposter accounts on social media;      now Aotearoa/New Zealand is trying to restrict access by under-16s to social media.

From a spiritual perspective:      visible justice is required to create a sense of accountability amongst those who would consider doing evil - and it must also be fair (BPM, spiritually), but the current context of emboldened evil makes the issue of mercy less important than countering that sense of emboldenment.

On fascism/the resistance to fascism:

  • “Neoliberal economics is based on absurd assumptions and fantasies”   https://youtu.be/uYyalJMXROw   by Richard Murphy, political economist, Emeritus Professor of Accounting at Sheffield University Management, co-founder of the tax justice movement   “Neoliberalism has dominated economics and politics for 45 years, despite being based on nothing more than myths, falsehoods, and fantasies that should have discredited the cult promoting it long ago.”   A debunking of the absurdities of neoclassical economics AND the ludicrous, selfish, victim blaming of neoliberalism
  • “Christian Nationalism Is Deceiving The Church ...”   https://youtu.be/FookKejUF1U   an examination of values      AND   “Responding to Charlie Kirk on christian nationalism”   https://youtu.be/Nq9-rh7rj8A   A Bible scholar dismantles and debunks a christian nationalist’s arguments

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).
