Post No. 3,279 - Continuing despite frustration

The USA is, in effect, largely a fascist regime - complete with the hate and emotional defiance of logic and relatity that such regimes rely on. 

The UK is well on the way to a similar state under a clueless leader. 

And the leader of my nation (Australia) has improved but still has major question marks - such as wanting to meet the abusive, disgusting, H_t l_r admiring fascist leader of the USA, and leading a government that at times makes decisions that appear to favour corporations over people and human rights. 

Suppression of dissent - especially by police, and in relation to Gaza - is strong, determined, and more obdurate by the day. 

On a personal note, after decades of damaging work conditions, supporting others, and spiritual & psychic work, I can feel too tired and disinclined to make the effort to meditate, project energy, or do even a simple ritual ... 

But here's the thing: 

• the resistance to fascism in the USA is strong, and that resistance is learning lessons from other places and times, adapting to the current circumstances & using the tools we have now (especially digital communication), and giving knowledge & heart to other such movements elsewhere - Europe in particular is starting to heed the lessons & warnings; 

• in addition to resistance to fascism, some of the commentary coming out of the UK is the most thoughtful, incisive, and helpful I have seen, and the protestors are showing courage not often seen since the height of the nonviolent non-cooperation movement that brought independence to India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh;  

• my nation's leader is slowly learning - and the Ministers in the government are making good sense at times, and our protestors are persistent; 

• the obdurate nature of the blockheads who are supporting the mass atrocities and likely genocide in Gaza by suppressing protests against it is more than matched by the determination of those protesting against the human rights abuses there and here; and 

• when I do make the effort to meditate, project energy, or do even a simple ritual, I remember that I am not only doing that for the outcomes it helps, I am doing that because I love doing those activities, and the reward both an immediate pleasure - which will always be with me when I do those - and longer term, by contributing to the other work for a better world.

Cynicism and the belief that we can do nothing are inherently flawed and destructive - they actively enable these wrongs, and those indulging in such are as guilty as those doing the wrong - those people are the same as those n_z_ s who claimed they were following orders during the Holocaust, and those who collaborated with or enabled evil everywhere, throughout history. 

Further to that, this flaw opens the way to active partnering with evil - notably, the issue that Tim Snyder refers to as “anticipatory obedience” in his book “On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century” (pub. The Bodley Head, London, 2017, ISBN 978-1-473549296).

From Chapter One of that book: “Perhaps rulers did not initially know that citizens were willing to compromise this value or that principle. . . . Because enough people in both cases voluntarily extended their services to the new leaders, Nazis and communists alike realized that they could move quickly toward a full regime change. The first heedless acts of conformity could not then be reversed. . . . The anticipatory obedience of Austrians in March 1938 taught the high Nazi leadership what was possible.”

 
What is the solution to this? 

Well, there are a few ways to approach it - hope or faith, for instance, but what I am being impressed with in this instance is Courage - the courage to have hope, the courage to act even if there seems to be no reason to hope, the courage to be one’s best - to manifest, as US President Abraham Lincoln put it, the “better angels of our nature”, no matter how bleak the situation. 

Doing so always helps - philosophically, as a matter of principle, by inspiring others, and energetically, through the psychic energy it creates - energy which cannot easily be expunged, particularly if more and more people are holding to their Courage. 

There is but one symbol this week: my bindrune for Courage.
