Post No. 2,977 - A suggestion for those who do New Year’s resolutions

For those who do New Year’s resolutions, here’s a suggestion: 

consider a resolution to donate to an organisation like Give Directly, which makes small grants to help people (either all or mostly in Africa, I understand) change their lives for the better (for instance, helping a seamstress buy a sewing machine so she can set up her own business)  

We’ve just helped a young friend in Africa complete a Uni course (his graduation is in a couple of weeks) - which is a higher level of commitment, and involved us doing a range of checks (which I won’t go into in case someone tries something similar and gets themselves in to trouble), and it is quite rewarding - and will change not only his life but his family’s as well. 

I am NOT suggesting you consider doing that, but I am suggesting you consider broadening your perspective from the personal to the communal - by which I mean the community of sentient life - and work on goals that will be of benefit to Life. 

The sense of personal reward may even help you with your personal goals ...

By the way, I don’t do New Year’s resolutions,but I do use goal setting on a different basis.

• I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.

Post No. 2,798 - A win ... and a turning point?

On my political blog, I have just posted:

So, yes, I do consider we have had a turning point towards something better - AND I consider this is also the winning of a major battle (or campaign, perhaps?) in the war against the psychic and spiritual evil behind the selfishness and neoliberalism that is manifested most clearly in Trump. 

After a sleepless night, I am now starting to feel like acknowledging that. 

If I was less exhausted, I would celebrate ...

PS - the other major win is Europe standing up to despot Putin, but they have to learn how to do that in a BPM way...

Post No. 1,164 - Magick and the Curses of Selfishness, Small-mindedness and Simplification

Every now and then I do a search to see how it seems people are approaching magick. I've just done that again, and, sadly, it still seems to be predominantly from the perspective of "what's in it for me?" - and I include those who are seeking to use magick to make themselves better people in that, although I was a little encouraged by this page.

There are a few points that people seem to be unwilling to accept.

Firstly, it is possible for people to act to make the world a better place, and practitioners of magick need to learn from those who do progressive social activism (including, for instance, Amnesty  International, Freedom United, the campaigns against blood diamonds, conflict resources, and human rights abuses in smartphone manufacture, etc). The excuse that just one person cannot make a difference is just that - a BS excuse.

Secondly, ALL uncontained strong emotion and thought GENERATES PSYCHIC ENERGY. The suffering of the poor generates energy that affects all  and thus it is important to lift people out of poverty (any stupid, flippant responses about getting rid of poor people exacerbate such energies). The hate, fear and anger of bigots is an active, albeit low-level (undirected, unconnected) form of magick. Allowing that energy to exist without balance is choosing to stand back and allow evil to flourish!

Doing magick to make the world a better place is NOT interfering - it is restoring balance.
