Post No. 164 - Scepticism: an analogy

I consider that it is of great importance to have a heathly, objective scepticism, and have written about this before (for example, see here). However, it is possibly to be excessively sceptcial, or to have such a materialist focus, that one's scepticism blinds one to fair dinkum, valid evidence .

I was thinking about this recently, and an anaology that came to mind was that such a person is like someone looking determinedly at rocks and soil, carefully examining them and saying "there are no such things as birds" and refusing to look up and see the birds in the sky.

Unfortunately, in my experience of people investigating psychic matters, gullibility is far more prevalent and concerning problem ... but I haven't thought of a natty new analogy for them.
