- Sunday and Monday: the purpose of this
day’s work is, mainly, to build a reserve of BPM energy to call upon during the
coming week. In addition to the meditation / clearing work described below, I
will also be working on making sure I, my crystals and my other tools / devices
are as fully charged with BPM energy as I can make them (which is something I have posted about elsewhere, but may post more
about in the near future):
- clear nonBPM units from, and send BPM energy to the Shield of Hope, Arctic and Antarctic, and to all actual and potential BPM Leaders, for all humans to recognise the essential shared humanness of other people, all BPM Interrupters of violence / hate / fear / anger, and for all humans to choose to live modestly; - Tuesday:
- clear nonBPM units from, and send BPM energy to North, Central and South America, and the North and South Atlantic Oceans; - Wednesday:
- clear nonBPM units from, and send BPM energy to all of Africa, the Indian Ocean and Russia; - Thursday and Friday:
- clear nonBPM units from, and send BPM energy to Europe, and West, South, Central, East and South East Asia; - Saturday: this day will now be reserved for rest, recuperation and healing – of all those who are trying in a BPM way to make this planet a better place, not only of myself and those who are sharing this work. I ask that any and all healers who wish to contribute to this, take a few minutes to contribute to this on this day.
This blog ( sub-title "Reflections from the Sideline") passes on my over half a century's worth of knowledge of spiritual and psychic matters, gained as a minor Servant of Life/Earth Empath/recluse/Psychic Warrior in fields such as spirit rescue, clearing, energy work, crystals, activist Paganism/Witchcraft, runes, past lives, healing, and teacher. I also share some of my problems [Content Warning!] and spiritual / psychic innovations. Opinions are mine UNO.

Post No. 1,164 - Magick and the Curses of Selfishness, Small-mindedness and Simplification
Every now and then I do a search to see how it seems people are approaching magick. I've just done that again, and, sadly, it still seems to be predominantly from the perspective of "what's in it for me?" - and I include those who are seeking to use magick to make themselves better people in that, although I was a little encouraged by this page.
There are a few points that people seem to be unwilling to accept.
Firstly, it is possible for people to act to make the world a better place, and practitioners of magick need to learn from those who do progressive social activism (including, for instance, Amnesty International, Freedom United, the campaigns against blood diamonds, conflict resources, and human rights abuses in smartphone manufacture, etc). The excuse that just one person cannot make a difference is just that - a BS excuse.
Secondly, ALL uncontained strong emotion and thought GENERATES PSYCHIC ENERGY. The suffering of the poor generates energy that affects all and thus it is important to lift people out of poverty (any stupid, flippant responses about getting rid of poor people exacerbate such energies). The hate, fear and anger of bigots is an active, albeit low-level (undirected, unconnected) form of magick. Allowing that energy to exist without balance is choosing to stand back and allow evil to flourish!
Doing magick to make the world a better place is NOT interfering - it is restoring balance.

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).Copyright © Kayleen White 2007-2024 NO AI

Post No. 1,163 – Gnwmythr’s News Ed. No. 216
The purpose of posting these news links is not only to inform; it is also to
stimulate a connection to:
- nonBPM units that need to be cleared, and
- BPM units that need to be strengthened,
so that you can do the clearing / strengthening that is required.
As part of that, note that there are key uncooperatives to be cleared (rescued): you should ONLY address those that are within your ability – if you get a sense (e.g., through meditation) or are told by your BPM Guides/Higher Self to back off, do so, and content yourself with clearing the smaller nonBPM units within your capability – which will weaken those uncooperatives. More importantly, there are many people doing this sort of work, and others are quite likely to be able to clear the uncooperatives concerned.
That is also one of the many reasons it is OK to take a break or cut back this work if you need – in fact, doing so will help you deal with the next point, which is …
… the energies we use and manifest in our daily lives contribute to the larger soup of energies that influence world events, so it pays to address those as well, to the extent that one can, or to at least stop oneself projecting them into the psychic soup.
The reminders / explanations about Sunday’s meditation-clearing are here; see also here, here, here, (here and also here and here are interesting), here, here, here, and this post reminds us to be patient and persistent, like a “speeding oak”.
There are some notes at the end of this post about other options for those who do not like this way of working.
Finally, one of the biggest concerns I have about spirituality in the world now is that the concept of agape type love has been perverted into both a quest for emotional warm fuzzies, and an excuse to avoid doing the hard work of improving oneself and all that one does. On that, it may help to consider the simplification that one cannot love perfectly until one has learned how to perfect. (And one of the concerns I have about those resisting change is that they are so shallow / superficial /stupid that they thing their actions have ONLY the meaning of their [limited] conscious intention … ) See also here and here.
(a) based on my interpretation of information here and here with Uranus in Aries contributing to fresh and possibly radical starts (until some date in the Year 2018), and Pluto in Capricorn contributing to a transformation of power and business (and careers) (until some date in the Year 2024), conditions are ripe for a change for the better in world politics;(b) there is an enormous need to clear nonBPM energy – the thought forms, unattached energy and scars of the collective unconscious created by millennia of violence, including spirit rescue, and healing the warped views, seemingly “inherent” biases, and other damage created. Also, remember: - (1) the counter to fear is genuine EQ and clear thinking, expressed through calm, de-escalating speech, - (2) where problems exist, advocating for BPM responses, and being as BPM as one can be, are constructive solutions, - (3) peace is powerful, but it is a process requiring patient, persistent and nuanced nurturing, and a blend of conventional spiritual work, clearing nonBPM units, and physical world activism;(c) viewing the overall emotional state of the world from an elemental point of view, this week we need:
emotionally (astrally), the strength and endurance of more BPM Earth;
mentally, the compassion and empathy of more BPM Water;
a plot of the elemental influences on a causal/spiritual level follows, and shows a need for more BPM Fire;(d) I’ve created a bindrune for this week’s work, which is:(e) dealing with the 45th President of the USA requires:
1. eroding (i.e., slow, patient and persistent clearing of the little bits one can SAFELY cope with – remember, you are but one of many) the nonBPM influences feeding his arrogance and mind-set, and strengthening the USA’s CEO’s BPM Guides and giving them whatever BPM help they need to present a BPM alternative to promote a change of heart,
2. lifting the nonBPM influences from the shoulders of the USA’s CEO’s marginal supporters, allowing them to “come to their senses”, which may result in them feeling bewilderment/shame, and simultaneously strengthening the BPM influences around them (e.g., their BPM Guides) to counter them backsliding,
3. physical world activism (especially education) – e.g., this. As well as doing what one can there, help those who are doing this work (e.g., sending them “positive vibes”) and look for nonBPM blockages that can be cleared (e.g., setting up a BPM vortex above meetings to draw away external nonBPM influences/energies/units, so that the audience can listen as they are, without any obsession/possession);
(f) the major events this week are: - as attraction to violence continues to be inadequately addressed, the risks of mass atrocities in Burundi, Central African Republic and Sudan, and ongoing violent conflicts and crises in Syria, Afghanistan, Mexico, Iraq, Burma, Somalia, South Sudan, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Libya, Sudan (Darfur and South Kordofan), Yemen, Egypt (Sinai), Kurdistan, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Mali, DR Congo, Burundi, Kashmir, Baluchistan (Pakistan and Iran), India (Maoist and other insurgencies), the Maghreb (Africa), Ukraine, and elsewhere; - refugee and humanitarian crises; - the political madness of regimes with authoritarian leaders; - and the backing away from progress around North Korea, triggered by clumsy comments perhaps, but maybe towards a truthfulness that would have emerged later, anyway; the ongoing personal violence of some conservatives; the environmental devastation (and desecration, in my view) of capitalism and its unfounded addiction to growth; continued addiction to power; challenges and challenging events that may yet lead to a more genuine commitment to ethics on the part of corporations; continuing repression in China and Chinese invade and occupied territory, despite growing material prosperity; awkward, clumsy, and stilted attempts by neoliberals to implement policies proposed by others on the basis of compassion; continuing cruelty; head-in-the-sand nostalgia;(g) may all people develop emotional empathy and maturity, compassion, and overcome empathy/compassion overload and/or fatigue;(h) may the holding of personal be seen for the fleeting thing it is, and may all people learn to focus on helping all people and groups to grow in a BPM manner;It is absolutely VITAL that this psychic / metaphysical / spiritual work be performed non-violently and as is for the Highest Spiritual Good – which is part of being BPM – on all levels and in all ways. Always remember (see here): Do you fight to change things, or to punish? See also here, here, here, here, here, and my comments about “authentic presence” in this post.
news items are presented in the following sections (there is overlap, and items may appear more than once):
- Permanent and Thematically Arranged News,- Location Based News,- (from a range of) Other Sites (if I have any this week);opportunities/good news (in my opinion) are shown in green;comments (by me) are shown in purple; andWARNING: some of these links may contain triggers around issues such as violence, sexual assault, discrimination, etc.
- Permanent issue: may all actual and potential BPM Leaders be kept BPM safe, including keeping them undetectable to the nonBPM and keeping all their Significant Others inviolable against being used for indirect psychic attack, and may they have all the BPM resources (including an assured income, given the power that nonBPM forces have in the structures of the material world), opportunities and assistance (including so-called “good luck”) for them to be BPM effective at influencing the world’s direction, development and unfoldment, all as is for the Highest Spiritual Good;
- Permanent issue: may all humans recognise, irrespective of the appearance of difference, the essential shared humanness of other people, the inherent resilience, the dynamic power, the strength of BPM collaboration, and the opportunities of having a diverse, inclusive and welcoming population, and may all people choose fairness, when such decisions are before them;
- Permanent issue: may all actual and potential BPM Violence Interrupters (and Interrupters of hate / fear / anger) of be kept BPM safe, and may they have all the BPM opportunities and assistance (so-called “good luck”) for them to be BPM effective at containing and stopping – along the lines of the Cure Violence model - the spread of violence (and hate / fear / anger), all as is for the Highest Spiritual Good;
- Permanent issue: may all humans choose to live modestly – to forgo outdoing others, or trying to have more than they need - for the sake of an easier, more manageable life, if they cannot do it for the sake of the planet, may we all exercise our human characteristics of reason, self discipline and improvement to overcome the often evil flaw of seeking social status;
- Permanent issue: may all humans be in better communication with the better parts of their nature – especially those who need that more than other, better people;
- Matters warranting particular attention:
this week on reversing the deliberate, well-funded, long-term strategy (from about the 70s) to make self-interest seem normal and a commitment to fairness (such as former US President Franklin D Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms) an aberration: the entirety of this blog and all other spiritual work and physical activism I and many others do;
on other matters requiring particular attention:
- in an “unsurprising return to the norm”, the proposed meeting between the USA and North Korea has been cancelled by the USA;
- to stop domestic violence in the neochristian church, women must be believed (this is the next in a year long series on the staggering problem of domestic violence in neochristianity, and raises yet more questions about hypocrisy); disturbing details of both what changed from consenting sex to a violent sexual assault raise questions about one Australian states laws, and its practices around trying such cases (she “endured cross-examination on her drinking, drug use, minor criminal history and whether she was wearing underwear on the night” – in this day and age?!) ;
- “the future of work run by robots appears to be a dystopian march to rising inequality, falling wages and higher unemployment according to [the] International Monetary Fund”;
- for the first time since 1961, Sweden will send out instructions to its citizens next week on how to cope with an outbreak of war (including getting clean water, spotting propaganda, finding a bomb shelter, what an air raid warning sounds like and their duty to act), as the country faces an assertive Russia across the Baltic Sea;
- the USA and China are reportedly putting their trade war “on hold” . . . ;
this week’s atrocity alert at R2P lists Burundi, Central African Republic and Sudan; - With regard to democracy (which can
be measured [as can goodness], and requires protection of minorities and the vulnerable – and remember
Gandhi’s question about whether one is fighting to change things, or to punish,
and note this list of 198 methods of nonviolent action), freedom,
governance (e.g., here, here, here and here, and see also here) and ethics:
Note: I have a section specifically for the 45th US President below
analyses, research and commentary this week include:
- a perspective that one of China’s reasons for its growing military aggressiveness is the surrounding “ring” of US and allied bases (I disagree with this assessment: China has Russia to the north so the “ring” is hyperbole. Also, another issue is likelihood of being used – and, with all its flaws under its current President, I have greater concerns about seriously repressive China, which has shown that it is acquiring disputed territory [and has done so back to the illegal invasion and occupation of Tibet, which was followed by genocide); the background to the savagery of Russia’s President sexist vengeance against Hilary Clinton, and his anger towards the USA; an excellent analysis on organisational ethics (they are moral agents, but holding them to account means addressing organisation-level features [the schemes, structures, culture, expectations, etc “that produce the organisation's values, goals, beliefs, etc, and the cycles by which those features reinforce each other”], not “the small collection of humans that happen to sit at the top at any one point in time”, although the individuals have duties); a legal analysis of the US withdrawal from the Iran P55+1 nuclear deal;
of concern this week:
- a departmental head has claimed his references to “burning this department to the ground” were not threats . . . ; Chinese influence in one Pacific Island nation’s elections; against the background of an assessment that the China-Australia relationship is strained, but not broken, China has told Australia to stop seeing its aggressiveness (my term) as anything but good . . . and a warning to businesses that despite “ a fond hope for years, that the modernisation of China meant that they were being westernised, and that's patently not true”, and an acknowledgement that Australian companies or farmers don’t need to kowtow to Chinese buyers or the government, Australians need to understand Chinese regulations and what will affect demand; questions over the use of Parliamentary privilege after an “ultra-patriot”, neochristian, anti-communist, former soldier MP ignored current legal (defamation) proceedings and identified an Australian citizen (often described in the media as “Chinese-Australian”) as person who allegedly bribed a UN official – which the Australian citizen denies; a crucial Australian crossbench senator “repeatedly” voted in Parliament in support of a coal mining company that he had invested in; a US “government employee in southern China has reported suffering from “abnormal” sounds and pressure leading to a mild brain injury, the US embassy said — recalling similar experiences among American diplomats in Cuba”;
- other concerning events have occurred or are developing in: India, Ukraine/USA, Australia;
good news this week includes:
- improved local government governance in my home state;
on development (in an “end poverty/thirst/hunger” sense – and being mindful of “intimate activism”):
- Australia’s foreign aid budget has been cut in each of the past five years;
and democracy/governance/political matters in my home nation this week:
on the Royal Commission into banks, and similar matters:
- possible changes from the Royal Commission; despite being found to have acted unconscionably, the Federal Court found the Australian Securities and Investments Commission had not made out its case against one of Australia’s “big four” banks for breaching the Corporations Act provisions against market manipulation or market rigging; yet another of the big four has a collapse of its internet and phone services;
- see also: here;
on other matters:
- more concerns over implementation of the NDIS, with one mother feeling “blackmailed and pressured”; a right wing party has withdrawn its support for the proposal by Australia’s neoliberal government to reduce company tax rates, apparently over an failure to meet a promise to provide apprenticeship funding; regional communities have praised migrant workers for keeping schools and shops open, and are calling for more arrivals; in a troubling escalation of gang violence in one area of my home city, a hand grenade has, for the first time ever, been used to attack a “notorious family”, with a window not breaking preventing serious injury to a mother and her child; “Australian farmers who have been foreclosed on hope the next round of banking royal commission hearings [likely to be a special hearing in coming months] will expose the tactics of big banks they claim put them out of business” (a “2016 parliamentary inquiry . . . did find some farmers had been treated unfairly at the hands of major banks”); the delayed and protracted election campaigns for by-elections resulting from the resignation of MPs with dual citizenship will put smaller candidates at a financial disadvantage (roll on public funding- and the deliberate timing during an opposition party’s national conference is a particularly dirty political “trick”) -see also this analysis; Australia’s neoliberal government has rejected an opposition proposal for a federal anti-corruption commission; - With regard to the USA and their 45th
President (who is dangerous – see here on actions
for US residents [and the useful principles]) of the Unexceptional
States of America (which has some … “unique” characteristics that don’t
exist elsewhere in the world) generally this week (I avoid using
the 45th US President’s name for psychic reasons – I may use either
“the USA’s CEO” or “Voldemort II” as an alias; also, the US Vice-President
needs to be worked on – and typically takes about three times as much effort to
clear of negativity):
- an examination of the situation of the USA’s 45th President, whose latest fantasy-land scenario is that the FBI infiltrated his election campaign team . . . ; the personal lawyer of the USA’s 45th President accepted a secret $400,000 payment to arrange a meeting between the Ukrainian and US Presidents;
- a court decision means the USA’s 45th President cannot lock users on his social media; - With regard to violent
extremism (VE) (aka, terrorism)
(ALL people
advocating hate or discrimination in response to violent extremism are actively doing the work of violent extremists. This will be countered, in part, by “Cure
Violence”,
real and perceived disempowerment and acknowledging the variety in what
provides genuine, BPM fulfilment as a counter to fanaticism as a source of meaning. I don’t name
groups to reduce their publicity):
- according to this Wikipedia page, there have been 3 attacks in Iraq and3 attacks in Afghanistan, (out of a total of 20);
- questions over why Australia’s counter-violent extremism assistance in the Philippines has “gone dark”; the Australian Federal Police Commissioner has been unable to explain what the penalties would be for people failing to provide identification to his officers in the nation's airports; - With regard to refugees (noting the New York Declaration) and people
seeking asylum:
- a refugee in Australia’s Manus Island refugee gulag - where a fire forced the relocation of 120 refugees - has “apparently” died by suicide, highlighting the lack of medical care; - With regard to other human (and other) rights and
discrimination (incidentally, I consider it vital to identify people
who are bigots, as they clearly have flaws of observation and thinking – shown
by the fact that NOT all
people choose to discriminate unless they have been educated otherwise [and
there’s this]):
on HOMOPHOBIA/TRANSPHOBIA (including heteronormativity and cisgender-normativity) this week (and noting that trans kids are the same as cis kids of the trans kids’ true gender):
- a woman who lived and worked as a man until her death at age 88 in 1975 (was she trans? Why didn’t the story even mention the possibility?); boxing's first black heavyweight champion has been posthumously pardoned for a 1913 conviction by an all-white jury for violating the Mann Act by travelling with his white girlfriend;
on white supremacist and other forms of RACISM / CULTURAL DISCRIMINATION and Indigenous matters generally this week:
- an article on a fairly obvious point: it is acceptable for minorities to reclaim abusive words, but that does NOT mean people from majorities to use those words now; 31 years after issues and challenges were identified in the “landmark” Women's Business report, Indigenous girls and women “have a greater sense of the truth of systemic issues [which are still present], and how they are experienced”, and need help to reach their full potential and live enriching lives; more racism - dressed up as “de-politicising” - in US sports; a Senator from a very small minded part of a small minded Australian state has claimed he hasn't seen enough racism to merit a commissioner ... (lack of recognition of what is staring people in the face, and flippant dismissal, are relevant issues here); the history of an abusive settlement for stolen aboriginal children and others where hundreds died is being revealed;
on TRAFFICKING, and CHILDREN’s and associated human rights this week:
- in a landmark ruling which specifically rejected the argument that “as child sexual abuse was not considered a serious crime in the 1970s, it was not worthy of being reported to authorities”, the most senior Catholic clergyman to be charged with concealing child sexual abuse has been found guilty, following which he stepped down but not resigned, and may be jailed (for up to two years) for reasons of “deterrence” and “denunciation” –see also here; a loophole used by the neochristian catholic church in my home state to avoid legal action from its victims has been closed;
- also on child abuse, particularly neochristian and other institutional, this week: India;
- also on slavery / human trafficking this week: India, UK;
- opportunities to take action here, here (which I found difficult – eyesight’s not so good these days, and there’s only so much zoom), here (great links to useful information), here (perhaps not so useful for casual, infrequent shoppers like me), here (tremendous to see others acknowledged – and I stunned how many organisations are close by, here, here (if you are inclined towards creativity), here (includes donation request for those who can), here, here, here, here, here, and here;
on SEXISM this week (keeping in mind the overblown influence given to testosterone):
- a “free fitness program where survivors of domestic violence train alongside a police officer and social worker is making an ‘enormous difference’ ” (why the police officer?); the lies in the business world around the wholly subjective topic of “merit” – which is “a myth, a mask for bias, that certainly won’t help increase the number of women in leadership positions anytime soon. Which is perhaps why it appeals”; Australia’s neoliberal party has admitted it is gender biased; the first prosecution of an FGM case in one Australian state; as another state catches up with mine on protecting abortion clinics, an offensive, belittling and downright stupid remark by a neochristian tries to claim a false equivalence; another abusive men’s group has been sharing techniques for targeting women;
- on sexual harassment/misconduct/violence this week, see: here, here;
- other sexism matters have also occurred in: Australian police;
on WORKERS’ rights this week:
- another possible episode of underpaying workers; a labour hire company in Australia has been suspended amid allegations the company underpaid labourers from Vanuatu; future legislation will make underpayment more clearly a punishable crime in my home state, and those responsible for workplace deaths will be charged with manslaughter;
on ANIMALS’ rights this week:
- a company director whose falsification of documents allowed 22,000 sheep to be imported into Pakistan, where they were brutally killed in vision that shocked Australia, has not been jailed despite pleading guilty; - With regard to war, violence
and hate generally:
- the police chief of the US city where their latest school mass murder by guns has occurred has called for change; as the convicted felon-led US gun lobby blames Ritalin and the 45th US President sticks to the usual, well-rehearsed script, more US citizens have been killed in schools this year than have lost their lives in military service to their nation; - With regard to natural and other
catastrophes:
- dozens of people have died in Pakistan, where a severe heatwave has coincided with the start of Ramadan; the volcanic eruption in Hawaii is continuing, with lava reaching the sea and creating white plumes of acid with extremely fine shards of glass; an extremely late bushfire in Australia after a burn off got out of control; at least 49 people have drowned after a boat capsized on the Congo River; - With regard to overcrowding and “modern” lifestyle
issues (such as conflict minerals, environmental harm and child labour in smart phone , FOMO [which can be overcome] and addiction or unthinking pro-technology bias, second thoughts, social media making people miserable or envious, work and
lifestyles causing depression, being duped by modern mantras and management fads, “failing” at being well or failing to consider life options, AI ethics, corporate misuse of mindfulness as
a distraction from working conditions, embedded emissions, plane pollution, bigger, flashier homes/cars– which means
actively abusing the environment and society’s cohesion and contributing to financialisation, the need for agroforestry, the accursed “new is always good”
groupthink of the computer world, abuse of workers by insisting on busy-ness, raising Prince Boofheads):
on climate change and other environmental matters this week:
- “green roofs for Australian cities would help reduce flooding and save on bills”; pollution of a creek in my home city (I used to see such problems in the 80s and 90s there, too); a study shows that the combined weights of humans, who cut the total weight of plants (who are 80% of the total) by half and wild mammals by 85 per cent, is about one ten-thousandth of the total (bacteria are nearly 13 per cent of the world's biomass, and fungi — yeast, mould and mushrooms — are about 2 per cent); “people are embracing a buy-nothing, fix-everything attitude to end throwaway culture” . . . but more people need to do that, to greater extent, and need to put pressure on companies and politicians to help that; a Japanese waste incinerator is being viewed as entertainment . . . ; “rice grown in high carbon dioxide environments may be less nutritious”; an examination of “vegan leather”; the impact of land clearing on the Great Barrier Reef; commercial fishermen will be allowed to harvest and sell sea urchins from a marine park in a bid to improve seagrass habitat at a crucial wetlands biodiversity site;
on technology and science matters this week:
- an examination of one social media platform's 7,500 content reviewers; Australia’s NBN has ditched plans for high speed connections . . . ; an Internet of Things home assistant recorded a private conversation in a family’s home and sent it to a random contact;
- other technology and science matters have occurred in: home detention;
on affordable, sustainable and decent housing and homelessness matters this week (why are politicians with “investment properties” not admitting a conflict of interest and staying out of housing affordability debates?):
- in the past five years, homelessness in Australia has gone up 14% and rough sleeping by 20% since 2011 (50% increase in Sydney, 30%pc increase in Darwin, and 20% increase in Brisbane), which is blamed on inadequate spending on low-cost housing – despite the more than $9 billion spent since 2009 through the National Affordable Housing Agreement;
on health and medical this week:
- the “commonly held” notion that pregnancy is a cause of long-term weight gain has been challenged by new research, which suggests unemployment and depression are instead likely factors; a rise in pedestrian deaths so far this year has been blamed on motorists and road design, not smartphones or headphones (interestingly, police in some Australian states and territories can fine pedestrians $110 if they walk “without consideration to other road users”, but there is no specific offence for using a phone while crossing a road); persistent pelvic pain is not only endometriosis, and is not helped by ignorance, stigma, and inadequately trained “generations of doctors”; after a teenager died by suicide, a call has been made for greater integration of hospital and medical records; an app to help the recovery of accident victims;
on other matters in the category this week:
- concerns about growing road rage between truckers and grey nomads have led to calls to for understanding, better etiquette and sharing; a US judge has ordered a 30-year-old man to move out of his parents' house (strewth . . . I’m aware of excuses about costs, but those excuses have been around for decades, and are just that: excuses – it is more important to mature as a human being than to own your own house [saving for a deposit is the usual excuse]); - With regard to press aka the
media, and freedom of expression (claims of presenting “both sides” of a
debate can be WRONG if the other
side is RUBBISH –as is the case on LGBTIQ issues. Also, media can be unprofessional, but funding is an issue … ):
- media / freedom of expression matters have occurred in: Fiji (good news); - With regard to education:
- the reality of a teacher’s day; - With regard to crime, judicial
matters and policing (noting that an uncle of mine resigned when corruption
was not comprehensively cleaned out of the police force he served in, I also
have high expectations of police [to match their powers], and consider all
violence, abuse of power and failure to understand the impacts of their actions
[e.g., see here and here] by police – who are under incredible
pressure –is, nevertheless, undermining and weakening all police and what they
are trying to achieve):
- following a recent controversial court decision not to jail two drug-affected women who committed a serious assault on paramedics, such assaults will classified as “Category 1” offences, and thus mitigating influences (e.g., life circumstances, choosing to use drugs and alcohol, "psychosocial immaturity" for 18 to 21-year-olds) will be given “less weight”, effectively resulting in mandatory jail sentences– although there are questions about the severity of assault, and issues such as assaults by emergency services workers (for instance, what about when gender diverse people are misgendered?); a recent mobile phone service outage left prison authorities in two states and one territory in Australia unable to track of criminals in home detention; “the death of a woman who was strangled by a man with whom she'd had a brief intimate relationship could have been prevented were it not for a “litany of errors” by police”; two men who dangerously bungled an attempted citizen's arrest have been found guilty of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, and of then attempting to cover it up; jurors serving their duty on “gruesome” cases have welcomed a report recommending counselling (as is already done in Australia); two police officers are being tried over alleged assault and an allegation of ordering a video of the assault be deleted (i.e., attempting to pervert the course of justice); Malaysia has decided to demonstrate that not all lives are valuable, and to suppress evidence rather than contributing the curing causes, by sentencing a drug smuggler to death;
- other crime, judicial and policing matters have occurred in: USA, Brazil (good news;
- With regard to Africa, the Africa Center for Strategic Studies (and other

- in the DR Congo, where more than 600 people have had contact with known Ebola cases and require vaccination, three infected patients escaped from a hospital holding them in quarantine, with two subsequently dying and one being put back into observation;
- “South Africa looks likely to implement land redistribution under existing laws rather than by changing the constitution”; - With regard
to South and Central America:
- a novel prison without guards or weapons in Brazil that focuses on (agape) love, work, restorative justice and rehabilitation to create a safer, cheaper and more humane answer to that nation's prison crisis;
- Venezuela is facing an international backlash (including the withdrawal of fourteen ambassadors and new US economic sanctions) after the President was re-elected in a process marred by an opposition boycott and claims of vote-rigging; - With regard to China (may her growing middle class bring a
love of peace and freedom), East and South East Asia and the Pacific (noting the
risks of atrocities in North Korea and Burma):
elsewhere in Asia:
- after a year during which the man was detained, a Cambodian court “has wrapped up its investigation into allegations an Australian filmmaker spied for a foreign entity, but is yet to decide whether the case will go to trial”; the “hero rats” helping the clearing of landmines;
- in the usual highly questionable cycle, Indonesia has reacted to the recent violent extremists by allowing the attackers to change how life is lived (i.e., win) by introducing new laws;
- Malaysia’s former Prime Minister, currently being investigated over corruption allegations, fears for his safety and has sought police protection;
and in the Pacific:
- “Fiji's High Court has found three executives of The Fiji Times newspaper and another man not guilty of sedition” – “Amnesty International has said the charges were politically motivated and designed to silence one of the few independent media outlets left in the country”; - With regard to Europe and the European Union (EU) (which need
to step up, as the USA steps down):
- German police have reported ten families for taking their children out of school early, probably to avoid travelling at the peak holiday time, despite laws obliging them to send their children to school (they were allowed to travel as “it would have been disproportionate to take the children back to school, as the families had paid for their holidays”);
- Italy has a new Prime Minister who has no political experience; - With regard to Russia (which is
currently supporting an – in my opinion, based on R2P principles - illegitimate
regime in Syria), Russian influenced nations and eastern Europe, Central
Asia, and responses (see also elsewhere):
Russia:
- for the first time, investigators have named a Russian unit and presented evidence connecting it to the shooting down of a passenger plane; - With regard to South Asia (aka
the Indian
sub-continent), The Hindu
and other sources have:
on India:
- an examination of the use of bribery in Indian elections; - With regard
to West Asia (aka “the Middle East”) and
Northern Africa, the Middle
East Eye,
the Times of Israel, and other
sources have:
on Israel and Palestine:
- despite concerns over the health of the incumbent, Palestinians appear to be indifferent as to who may become their third President;
on Syria (where the Assad Dictatorship has lost all pretence of legitimacy, and partition is needed):
- the Assad regime’s army has claimed it has control of all areas surrounding the capital for the first time since early in the seven-year-old war;
elsewhere in the region:
- Iran has condemned the USA for vowing to impose the “strongest sanctions in history”;
- Turkey has refused to release two Greek border guards arrested on suspicion of espionage, and appears to be trying to blackmail Greece into returning eight Turkish commandos who were granted asylum after the failed coup; a Turkish court “has sentenced 104 former military officers to life in prison for their involvement in a 2016 coup attempt” (Turkey's behaviour raises doubts in my mind about (a) their guilt and, (b) if guilty, whether the extent justifies the sentence).
