As a result of this week’s Dreamland episode from Whitley Strieber, I have come across the concept of “trauma produced growth”.
In addition to the show episode links, the book details are:
“Bridging the Tragedy; Silver Linings in the Mysterious Ohio River Valley” by Bill Kousoulas PhD (Author), Jacqueline Kousoulas (Author), Andrew Colvin (Photographer) (pub. Bird Mountain Books, 2022, ISBN 9798848732122, Amazon)
Some other links are:
- Psychology Today - Post-Traumatic Growth;
- HBR - Don’t just lead your people through trauma. Help them grow.
However, I wish to remind you, Dear Reader, of the damage that can be done by trauma as well - it is NOT always growth producing (as the book above acknowledges):
- The Conversation - How childhood trauma changes our hormones, and thus our mental health, into adulthood;
- Australian Institute of Family Studies (Australian Government) - The effect of trauma on the brain development of children.
Also on trauma and what to do about it, see Gabor Maté’s book “The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness & Healing in a Toxic Culture”.
PS - in what Ive read so far, the book does touch on PTSD as well - which is as well, as some of the people being interviewed appear to be affected by that ... hence the apparent theme that PTSD/trauma can accompany things such as growth, and we thus have both at the same time - just as much of my blog refers to BPM and nonBPM existing at the same time - especially the Psychic Weather Reports.
PPS - see also https://theconversation.com/psychological-debriefing-right-after-an-accident-or-trauma-can-do-more-harm-than-good-heres-why-208139
PPPPS - I have subsequently found Gabor Maté is anti-neurodivergent: see “Why Dr Gabor Mate' is Worse Than Wrong About ADHD” https://youtu.be/bO19LWJ0ZnM?si=0K-F78xW6ZeklNcR Neurodivergence is one of those conditions which, as with same sex/gender attraction and gender divergence, needs to be accepted and welcomed, not “cured” or prevented.
Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:
- there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
- I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.

Finally, remember: we need to be more human being rather than human doing.
