For
anyone distressed by anything in this post, or for any other reason considering
seeking support, resources are available in Australia here, here, and here. In other nations, you will have to do an Internet search using terms such as “mental health support - <your nation>” (which, for instance, may lead to this, this, and this, in the USA, or this, this, and this, in France [biased towards English-language - my apologies]), or perhaps try https://www.befrienders.org/.
Posts in this series are now listed at https://gnwmythr.blogspot.com/p/recovering-from-corporate-life.html.
I recently decided to let go of some of my blogging activities (to quite an extent, in response to some life changes), and wrote about that here.
Some of that blogging I did because, without it, I would have felt that my life - my existence - could not have been justified, but I also did that because it was a genuinely important goal to me - and still is: I still want to make the world a better place.
But, as I mentioned in “Post No. 2,897 - Recovering from a corporate “life” - Episode 34: burnout” (11th October, 2024) , I have started re-reading Dr Devon Price’s “Laziness Does Not Exist” https://www.amazon.com.au/Laziness-Does-Exist-Devon-Price-ebook/dp/B08BZXM734/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0 , and have realised more fully how my attitudes towards busy-ness and feeling that my existence had to be justified was influenced by unhealthy white Anglo-Saxon protestant values.
Consider the following, from his above mentioned book:
“I know a lot of people like me. People who work overtime, never turning down additional work for fear of disappointing their boss. They’re available to friends and loved ones twenty-four seven, providing an unending stream of support and advice. They care about dozens and dozens of social issues yet always feel guilty about not doing “enough” to address them, because there simply aren’t enough hours in the day.”
“People like this—people like me—are doing everything society has taught us we have to do if we want to be virtuous and deserving of respect.”
“Most of us spend the majority of our days feeling tired, overwhelmed, and disappointed in ourselves, certain we’ve come up short. No matter how much we’ve accomplished or how hard we’ve worked, we never believe we’ve done enough to feel satisfied or at peace.”
I had to recognise that flaw, and learn how to address it, but not only in my day job areas of life, but also the activities I care about personally and consider personally important - such as this blog.
There is also the genuine needs being met by those activities to consider, but as the Activist Witch recently pointed out, if you overdo things the choir you are part of may permanently lose a voice, but if you slow down or pause, the choir may have a quieter voice or a pause from your voice, but you will still be a part of that.
Blessed be.

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).
