Sigh.
I have been watching a few programmes, including the TV series “Grimm” - which has an interesting (or at least unusual) take on interpreting old European fairy tales, although, as is common with such series it is extremely violent, graphic, and, in so many aspects, unrealistic, but ... I can fast forward when I wish.
But what I want to write about is the last episode, when the band of friends is trying to protect their children and, secondarily, the world against a powerful (naturally!) threat (naturally! 😒) from another dimension.
At one stage in the climactic finale, the younger Grimm has a chance to take the youngest child away from the scene of the conflict, hopefully to somewhere safe, but doesn’t because she is dithering over what is happening to her adult friends.
For a supposed defender of humanity, one who has been forced to take such decisions before many times, that doesn’t say much good about her dedication to her defender-of-humanity role, although it is consistent with her human attitudes from those earlier incidents - and is consistent with her experience-influenced humanity, as her friends helped her out of extreme duress, but ... it is still problematic as destruction of the world will also include destruction of her friends.
A few minutes later, however, that character is able to argue that the older Grimm needs to stop focusing on his family and start focusing on saving the world.
This change is discordant - it is inconsistent, IMO, with her attitude of just a few minutes earlier.
That a character who behaving in what could be construed as small-minded, self-centred, and selfish to suddenly behave in the complete opposite - without any adequate trigger - didn’t seem realistic to me.
However, it gives me a chance to introduce a word here:
Nepotism is, to simplify, favouring friends and family - personal connections - over the proper requirements of a role. It is choosing an incompetent relative or friend to fill an official position rather than someone with the capabilities who won it on merit (if the relative or friend genuinely won it through competition on the basis of merit [e.g., used a different name, etc], it is technically not nepotism, but there would be a perception of nepotism, and thus doubt).
Nepotism is most often identified clearly as a problem in politics, but it applies everywhere - including the spiritual and psychic worlds.
A major problem that I have written about previously is people choosing to listen to ignorant, bigotted, and wrong relatives over experts (such as your BPM Guides). I have seen massive harm done by that attitude of familiarity/comfort over truth, and it is, in many ways, a form of intellectual (learning) nepotism.
As with all forms of nepotism, it has to be overcome, which begins with accepting that it is a problem.
Going back to Grimm, the episode then continues on with the final battle being fought by a bunch of relatives, who supposedly win because they are relatives - i.e., genetic superiority. *** MASSIVE EYE ROLL ***
I’ll come back to that shortly, but let’s move on for comparison ...
... to “The Rise of Skywalker”, which also includes connecting with others - but those of one’s spiritual lineage, which is, given how the Jeri Order of the film is constructed, is based on tested (i.e., proven) ability - or merit.
That also is a key part of how Rey wins in the end (although the film does have more of the problematic genetic inheritance approach).
My take, after comparing the two, is that Grimm is effectively advocating for monarchy, whereas “The Rise of Skywalker” is advocating for the modern democratic approach of proven merit/ability.
The favoured genetics approach of Grimm is also veering dangerously close to racism/eugenics ... but note that genetic inheritances are also raised in “The Rise of Skywalker”.
Genetics/families do have an influence, but so too does “environmental influence” (i.e., the nature vs. nurture debate) AND PERSONAL CHOICE.
From a previous post of mine:
... the story about the famous Greek philosopher (I forget whether it was Aristotles or Socrates) who is supposed to have had his head “read” by a phrenologist, who commented that the philosopher’s skull was of someone who was dull, stupid and slow mentally. The philosopher congratulated the phrenologist on being correct, and explained that he had worked very hard (and successfully) at overcoming the shortcomings he had from birth to become what he wanted to be. None of has to be blind adherents to our unconscious urges, biases and foibles.
We are not helpless victims to our heritage here ...
Possible flaws
Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:
- there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
- I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).
#PsychicABetterWorld and may all that I do be of value and actively BPM used for and by the nonphysical BPM because #KindnessIsThePoint
