Post No. 3,413 - Another activism email

I sent this to my local Federal MP a few minutes ago.

Dear Member for _,

Re:  Some recent mews articles on climate misinformation, social media, good religious people, and genocide [content warning for the last item]

There are some news articles from today and yesterday which I consider worth noting - my apologies if you are already aware of these.

  • Related to the previous article, in that it deals with abuse of communication, is:   “Meta and YouTube designed addictive products that harmed young people, jury finds | Social media | The Guardian”   https://www.theguardian.com/media/2026/mar/25/jury-verdict-us-first-social-media-addiction-trial-meta-youtube
As I’ve written previously, I have grave concerns about the risks of privacy breaches and isolation of minority youth created by the age verification aspects of the young people social media ban. Be that as it may, the ban is in place - but it fails, IMO, to address this main problem, which is the unconscionable conduct of social media platforms - which has now been demonstrated by a court decision (albeit in the USA, and with an utterly inconsequential [given Meta's and YouTube's financial scale] fine).
That court decision, I suggest, is reason to extend our previous actions aimed at looking after young people to actions that will better look after ALL social media users, whatever their age.

  • The third news article illustrates something I have been trying to get others in the LGBTQIASB+ communities to realise for DECADES: not all religious people are bad - my (minority) religion is inclusive, and I know there are Christian churches which are inclusive, and activists for inclusion in most religions that discriminate. Other members of the LGBTQIASB+ communities, (pseudo)“journalists” chasing clickbait, and, sadly, a number of politicians have failed to realise that, and as a result have failed to push back against bigotry over the last three decades that this has been of particular concern to me.
It must also be noted, however, that the fault also lies with those members of progressive religions, or with progressive views in reactionary religions, who FAIL to speak out against the hate of their fellow religious travellers.
Now, however, we have finally got someone who is doing exactly that, as reported in “Democratic rising star extends ‘love’ after Hegseth pastor prays for his death | Democrats | The Guardian”   https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/mar/25/james-talarico-pete-hegseth-pastor
I would hope that it would be possible to build a database of progressive religious people who are prepared to speak out publicly whenever a reactionary religious adherent promotes hate.

  • And on hate, one of the most extreme versions of that is genocide. Yesterday a news article expanded on the genocide committed last year in the city of El Fasher, in Darfur, Sudan - one terrible happening in a war full of terrible events that appears to have been largely neglected or ignored by the world.   The article’s details are:   “Heroism, horror and the ‘pits of hell’: inside the last days of El Fasher | Global development | The Guardian”   https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2026/mar/25/heroism-horror-and-the-pits-of-hell-inside-the-last-days-of-el-fasher
The world has also responded inadequately to the genocide in Gaza, and almost every single genocidal event over the last half century - with the belated response to some of the atrocities during the break up of Yugoslavia being a sort of exception.
I have not seen any of the moral outrage and commitment shown, however, to the calamity in Biafra during the Nigerian Civil War.
Each mass atrocity is an opportunity for the world to do better - El Fasher and Gaza have been missed, but there is another opportunity now in southern Lebanon:   “The Guardian view on Israel’s war in Lebanon: allies must not accept a repeat of the crimes in Gaza | Editorial | The Guardian”   https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/mar/25/the-guardian-view-on-israels-war-in-lebanon-allies-must-not-accept-a-repeat-of-the-crimes-in-gaza

I commend that editorial, and the preceding articles, for consideration by the appropriate people

As always, no reply to this email is necessary, but I am happy for it to be forwarded (preferably de-identified) and to discuss the items further if desired.

Possible flaws

Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:

  • there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan  Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”
  • I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).

Post No. 3,272 - Some random thoughts

Photo by TONG KBP on Unsplash
(a stone temple tower rises into a soft blue sky with clouds, and trees on the left foreground)

This is a quick post to keep things happening on the blog while I try to get the time and energy to deal with multiple other issues ...

Firstly, what is the attraction ofoNietzsche?

I have never understood that - N seems to me to be just singing the praises of strength without any morals or ethics, which makes the advocacy selfish, self-centred, and inherently destructive of community.

(This was prompted by a passing reference to N in a news article I will likely be including in this weeks coming reflections post.)

Another news report I will be including is on Australia’s defence forces not kicking out a far right person for an extended period of time after discovery. The command said they don’t tolerate such extremism, but their actions clearly do, so ... do they have a problem with having been infiltrated by the far right at some levels?

That sort of infiltration was raised a few years ago as a concern with regard to police, and both organisations have an external perception of being authoritarian - which is not entirely correct (e.g., see here), but if that perception exists it may draw those with a weakness towards far right extremism.

And, in addition, there is deliberate development of military/paramilitary mindsets.

That, combined withopoliceotacticsowhich appearoto protecton_ z_s, and the presence of some police & military in far right extremist actions overseas in recent years (which must be offset by the larger number who are acting against right wing extremism - both in their duties and personally) raises a question:

how informed, nuanced, and accurate is theocommandohierarchy’sounderstanding of:   hate speech vs free speech,   what constitutes a threat to the members of minority groups,   infiltration (especially historical),   and   how to protect democracies and what a democracy is?

I fear most western nations are failing their citizens with inadequate military and paramilitary command structures ...

Mainstream media are mostly lost to either right wing infiltration and/or incompetence, and progressive political parties are showing similar failings to those of the military/paramilitary command structures.

One of the most transphobic media outlets once requested (a few years ago now) that I discuss which of two conspiracy fantasies "explained" what they amathiacally considered an explosion in the number of trans people. Naturally, I ignored the request (long experience - don't step into a trap, especially a baited trap ... if you want to cover the issues, find another platform, one that is competent and at least neutral)

And as far as political parties go, I recently came across an article (which I haven't been able to find again) which said the reason fascists/n_ z_s/"the far right"/"the radical right"/"the extreme right" were so vehement in attacking trans people was that it enrages their supporter base, but left most uninformed and uncaring people unmoved ...

It is the gap that is significant to them - and on that, too many police and supposedly progressive politicians are too incompetent/amathiac to even notice, let alone be decent enough as human beings to care.

For the record, note that the Lemkin Institute published a   “Statement on the Genocidal Nature of the Gender Critical Movement’s Ideology and Practice”   https://www.lemkininstitute.com/statements-new-page/statement-on-the-genocidal-nature-of-the-gender-critical-movement%E2%80%99s-ideology-and-practice , and an updated and re-released Red Flag Alert for the United States on the Anti-Trans Agenda of the Trump Administration   https://www.lemkininstitute.com/red-flag-alerts/red-flag-alert-for-the-anti-trans-agenda-of-the-trump-administration-in-the-united-states

Transphobia is often murderous - either through direct violence or hate driving people to suicide; gender critical ideology is genocidal.

Going back to politicians, I am gravely concerned at what appear to be attempts by our (Australia's) PM to gain the favour of the USA's leader ...

That leader is anti-democratic, pro-hate, and of questionable health and unquestioned unfitness for his role - and we're heading down an out-Chamberlain Chamberlain pathway ...

On the other hand, I sat in on a good meeting this evening about political resistance to hate and fascism.
