Post No. 3,369 - From the news: irresponsibility, politics and hate, disconnection, and being duped/controlled/"scammed" by the politico-media elite

Irresponsibility  

I noticed a recent media report that Australia was trying to shift responsibility for torture of someone we detained onto the nation who we had paid to jail them for us - see   “Australia exposed Iranian asylum seeker to torture on Manus, UN says”   https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/jan/14/australia-exposed-iranian-asylum-seeker-to-torture-on-manus-un-says   “United Nations says man experienced ‘serious violence’ in detention but Australia argues it did not control PNG facilities”   

This has been tried before - notably, companies that outsourced phone interactions to third companies, many of whom broke Australian laws or best business practice by being misogynistic, anti-LGBTQIASB+, racist, etc. Those incompetently direct companies (I can’t, in good conscience, refer to the companies as managed) lost a lot of customers that way (especially the ones who didn’t complain, they just didn’t come back ... ), and we now have a clarification of the obligations of companies with the introduction of the “positive duty” in the Sex Discrimination Act to prevent discrimination (see https://humanrights.gov.au/know-your-rights/rights-of-individuals/workplace-rights/positive-duty-sex-discrimination-act). 

That also sets a pretty fair precedent for expecting the same for other protected attributes, IMO. 

 

 

Politics and hate 

Also of note, the neolibs are going to oppose the National Security Law that they wanted - which seems the classic obstruct-at-any-cost-to-anyone of the ultimately clearly politically incompetent Tony Abbott. 

A key indicative action has also been the neolibs move to exclude protection of LGBTQIASB+ people on the flimsy pretext that “there are things still to discuss”. No, actually, there aren’t: the debates have been held, and the haters lost them (especially on Equal Marriage, after which there has been a continuous, increasingly shrill and malicious backlash - on all such matters). What they are doing now, IMO, is trying to reverse moves to make Australia a more decent, modern nation, and go back to their mediaeval theocratic perversion of democracy rather than change themselves into decent human beings - they want to show their true colours by preaching their religious hate:   “The shadow home affairs minister, Jonno Duniam, warned of the risk of unintended consequences, including from possible legal challenges.   “That is, of course, gravely concerning when we’re talking about laws that could be construed to prevent a Christian preacher from being able to offer a sermon that some might interpret a certain way … as meeting thresholds of offence, feeling fearful,” he said.   “If someone can try and attempt to demonstrate intent on the part of a Christian preacher, they could be caught up in these laws.”” My view is that ALL religions should be equally held to account for their hate - especially against minority groups.

PS - I've now had a look at the submissions to the enquiry, and there are: 

• some genuine concerns about what has been proposed, 

• important commentary about what has been left out, and 

• a few (e.g., neochristians) trying to hold on to their hate. 

It's all rushed, and some of it is tantrums over puerile and/or snowflake desires to hate that were thrown our years ago here in Victoria. 

Unfortunately, theocratic influences have held power at the national level for most of the last three decades (and neoliberalism for the last half century). 

Given that: 

• how much influence do people with religious bigotries and hates have at the national level? 

• is that why Australia has struggled (at the national level, over the last three decades) to recognise when commentary moves beyond expression of differing political opinions to threats against democracy/freedom, as well as hate speech? Or is it irresponsibly seeking votes?

 

 

Disconnection and being controlled by the politico-media elite   

And on top of all that has been a brilliant article by Amy Remeikis, which is what moved me to write this post:   “Malinauskas' Adelaide Festival mess reveals a political class disconnected from the people – Amy Remeikis”   https://www.deepcutnews.com/p/adelaide-festival-fiasco-exposes   “From Adelaide to Bondi, the political-media class are deciding the "correct" view – and targeting those who dare to dissent”   

This was triggered by the exclusion of a Palestinian writer from the Adelaide Writers Week and the powerful, quick, and widespread backlash led by the arts world:   “Whether it’s overt political calls and dictums surrounding the royal commission into what led up to the Bondi attack, or floppy justifications for cancelling Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah’ appearance at the Adelaide Writers’ Week (AWW), or the faux-rage targeting cartoonist Cathy Wilcox over legitimate political commentary, there appears no end to the unrelenting campaign to paint genocide opponents as hatemongers.”   This came on the heels of similar actions by the Bendigo Writers Festival, and the media response contrasts with the media response to the terrorist tragedy at Bondi, and the problem of political false equivalences:   “...   That he seems shocked at the response shows he still refuses to learn.   And that seems to sit at the core of the disconnect we are witnessing growing between politicians and the mainstream media on one side, and the public on other – a refusal to learn, to evolve, to bend.   That rigidity in thought means they both can’t and won’t see the shifting sands in front of them.”   

This is one of those articles that should be read and then deeply considered. 

 

 

Being duped/"scammed" by the ultra wealthy elite

Analysis and commentary:   

Finland’s government and people are with Gaza, but their military is out of touch ... is that due to the fear of a possible Russian invasion? There is support for Ukraine, and acknowledgement of internal human rights advances and problems. IP ∼ HR&D ⇑      Uruguay, with a new leftist President, is showing good awareness of and interaction with other nations - especially on human rights issues, including Gaza and the USA, although connections with the UAE and Iran could be potentially concerning. IP ⇑ HR&D ⇑      Luxembourg is showing well argued public support for Palestine, noted the cost of living impacts of the fading of hope for peace in Ukraine (is that a wealthy nation problem? I don’t know), is making some progress on LGBTQIA+ issues - with valid criticisms, had a call for human resources to get back to being human, and noted other international issues (including North Korea). IP ∼ HR&D ⇑      Denmark has seen strong public support for Palestine, and has opened a facility for autists. IP ⇑ HR&D ⇑      Germany is achieving practical humanitarian aid actions, with Jordan, for Gaza, with a good awareness of what needs to happen, and continues to stand with Ukraine. IP ⇑ HR&D ⇑      New Zealand, under its conservative government, has emphasised its commitment to the Pacific, but is dithering about Palestine. IP ⇓ HR&D ∼      Norway is showing support for Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan IP⇑ HR&D ∼       Costa Rica is showing a concerning subservience to the increasingly fascistic USA, and is adopting a hardline response to crime problems, However, there are some good things as well - anger over animal cruelty, and checking the impact of tourism, for example IP ∼ HR&D  ∼ (mix of ⇑ an ⇓)      Sweden is showing caring for Gaza, but still have right wing extremist problem IP⇑ HR&D ⇓      Ireland is showing public and private support for Gaza, albeit with concern over bank actions, and a progressive consultation IP⇑ HR&D ⇑      Iceland is, based on the news articles I could find, showing support for Gaza and management of the USA’s problematic impositions on the world, and a mixed record on human rights internally IP⇑ HR&D ∼       The Netherlands is showing attempts to manage human rights problems, and attitudes that are drifting to the right IP∼ HR&D ⇓       Austria is showing good actions internationally, and management of internal human rights problems IP⇑ HR&D ∼       Switzerland is showing constructive and progressive international actions, and attempts to manage internal right wing problems IP⇑ HR&D ∼       Malta had very few news articles I could find of any great relevance or import IP∼ HR&D ∼       Australia showed surprisingly good interactions internationally, but that is offset by the problematic interactions internally (including a xenophobic march against immigrants tomorrow) IP⇑ HR&D ⇓        

Overall, the sense I have is of smaller nations being vulnerable to the bullying of the USA, or drifting towards the right (voters tend towards when they are afraid or situations are uncertain - even when it is the fascists who CREATED those circumstances), but there are notable exceptions - Uruguay, Denmark, Ireland, and, despite its internal right wing problem, Germany. Most of the other nations are showing signs of why they are in this selection, but this week New Zealand, under its conservative government, The Netherlands, Costa Rica, and Sweden are showing grounds for concern.

Looking at these:   

• West Asia needs more more BPM   Water , and less nonBPM   Æther ;

Inward focus predominates in   Æther   Fire   Earth   ,    outward focus predominates in   Water   Air    

BPM   predominates in   Æther   Fire   Earth   , nonBPM   predominates in   Water   Air    

With regard to the levels,   upper levels predominate in   Fire   Water   Air   , and there is no clear pattern for Æther   and   Earth   .  

With regard to relative strength of the elements,   Æther   is much stronger, and   Earth   much weaker, than the other elements.  

Overall, more compassionate thinking about others is required.   

 

 

Ukraine and eastern Europe including Russia  

 

Looking at these:

With regard to the levels,   lower levels predominate in   Æther   , upper levels predominate in   Fire   Earth   Water   Air    

With regard to relative strength of the elements,   there is not significant relative differences.    

Overall, Ukraine is dominating in the element of Air, which reflects their better development and use of drones and ideas in general, but increased genuine BPM spirituality (not stilted, dogmatic, ideological, hierarchical, old religion) would help – which is almost impossible in a wartime situation. The need for this is greatest on the Russian side.

 

 

the USA  

 

Looking at these:   Æther   Fire   Earth   Water   Air  

• the USA needs more BPM   Water   , and less nonBPM   Fire   ;   

Inward focus predominates in   Water   ,   outward focus predominates in   all the other elements.  

BPM   predominates in   all the elements.  

With regard to the levels,   upper levels predominate in   Fire   and   Earth  ,   and the other elements have no clear predominance of level.  

With regard to relative strength of the elements,   Water   is weaker than the other elements.  

Overall, this shows a lack of BPM emotions towards others – emotions such as compassion, tolerance/acceptance, etc. It is the lack of these emotions that is more of a problem than the presence of excessive intolerance, suspicion, fear, anger, hate, etc.

Overall, decency is being driven from the physical realms up – which relies generally on logic, and thus risks not speaking to the heart as well as genuinely BPM spirituality does. That can show as a weakness of BPM   Water, or trouble finding a response to nonBPM Water and/or Air.
