PS - since the author of this series of books has become a notorious transphobe, I do not endorse her and her output in any way, shape or form, and wish to distance myself from her and her output. I will edit these over time, and will likely remove all references.
I’ve been watching the <magical film series> , and I have to say … wizards and
witches in that Universe suck at combat. But then again, so do many who serve
the Light in this world as well.
That’s not to say none have courage, skill and tenacity, the sort of
individual attributes smiled upon by Valkyrja and The Morrigan (who appears
to have claimed me, making her a Patron Deity of mine, according to accepted
understanding – which always seems crazy to me, as I’m a servant to my Patron
Deities, not the other way round), but their understanding of psychic combat is
as limited as … a child coming up against the power and organisation of, say,
the USA’s armed forces – and, no matter what you may think of their involvement
in wars since the Second World War, they are a powerful military force, and,
although it may take time, they generally do learn the lessons of their
failures in combat (none of which lessons are necessarily lessons in ethics, and have nothing to do with the politics of being in that particular combat situation; I don't know if they give lessons in determining which orders are lawful or not, which I understand the Aussie military does).
Now, in case you think this is all meaningless rubbish, probably the
most common situation that I need such skills is when dealing with an
uncooperative [3]. This is someone who is maliciously, knowingly using their
situation as an earthbound entity to gain power at the expense of others – and
possibly to actively harm others. They may well be doing so out of some
personal injury they received, and they unquestionably need help, but the
overriding concern with such people is stopping them doing more harm to others
(they’ve usually, in my experience, gone long past harming the people who
injured or wronged them, and now are lashing out at anyone with a minor
similarity to those people, or who are simply in the vicinity – which is a
theme explored by the story “The Jackal”,
by Vera Nazarian in
the Marion Zimmer
Bradley edited “Darkover” anthology,
“Four Moons of
Darkover”).
As an example, consider the defences set up at the start of the battle:
a truly impressive dome, created using spells that I have (partly) adopted in
real life. In real life, some people forget to make sure that the defences
cover above and below, mostly during their less experienced periods of life
when they are still learning.
How could that be improved?
Well, military thinking for small forces engaged in combat (and I am
simplifying dreadfully here, so apologies to anyone reading who has military
training - I haven't, by the way, just read a lot and have rellies who have served in the military) is to always make sure your rear is defended – in other words,
someone is watching to see if an attack could come from somewhere unexpected. The
aim is also to have a force in reserve, able to be committed to areas of
defence that need
What is the psychic equivalent of that? Looking at frequencies higher
and lower than that you’re working on.
In a real life rescue of an uncooperative (and the aim is to rescue
them, but after the harm they’re doing is stopped, and their victims are
receiving healing), my ideal would be to have at least three people doing
nothing connected with the rescue, but only continuously working at maintaining
psychic defences around those doing the actual rescue work: one focused on the
realm that the others are being worked on, one focused on frequencies that are
lower than that realm (thus aiming to prevent a psychic attack coming from,
say, the etheric to the lower astral), and one doing the same for frequencies
above the realm where the rescue is focused.
In addition, have someone in the physical watching these three, and
channelling energy to whoever is struggling, as they’re probably coming under
more attack. That person is the reserve force.
I’ve got to admit I’ve never been able to try this out, as I haven’t
had the luxury of a large enough group of properly trained, capable people to
be able to spare four people for such work, but if I had enough people … I
could make each person a pair: one sitting up and thinking of defences on one
axis (akin to doing defences to the four quarters), and one laying down doing
the axis at right angles (akin to doing above and below). (Of course, that
panders to people’s weakness in this area, rather than fixing the weakness, but
that may be what is most pragmatic at the time.) Or … I could make each person
actually a group of three who have connected their chakras using the Ranger
technique I wrote about here
and here.
Another thing that small military forces aim to do is to have a medic
available. I would like to have at least one healer, and possibly more,
available to help this group. At the spiritualist place I used to go to, I was
trying to train enough people and set up a roster so I could have some healers
turn up early, and give healing to those doing the set up and who were going to
be working, one lot doing healing during the event, and another lot to give
healing to people afterwards – particularly those who are packing up. For a
major rescue event, it may be OK to have participants give healing to each
other before starting (if they are capable of doing so competently, which may not
necessarily be the case if their skills are in other areas, such as defence, or
rescue, or scouting, etc), but other healers would be needed during the event
and afterwards.
When we look at the work being done, well ... at the commencement
of the battle, people are running aimlessly back and forth. There is no sense
of being organised, and it is no wonder the forces of <evil> get into the
castle. If, however, the wizards and witches had organised themselves using
things like overlapping fields of fire, reserves, etc, maybe that wouldn’t have
happened (then again, maybe it would have: the castle had a large perimeter,
and there were not many capable wizards and witches … so maybe withdraw into
something defensible? Of course, all this sort of commentary applies to the world created, where spells are largely one
directional things coming out of wands – which is not the case in real life, where spells can be multidirectional).
How do we apply such principles to something like rescue of an
uncooperative? Well, have one (or a few, possibly connected by the
aforementioned Ranger technique) directly engaged with the uncooperative,
trying to talk to and clear and heal them so they can be rescued, while one (or a few, possibly connected by the
aforementioned Ranger technique) aim at
freeing the entities who are being controlled [4] by the uncooperative and
making sure they receive healing and whatever other assistance is needed (some,
but not all, will themselves be earthbound, and thus in need of help to pass
over), one (or a few, possibly connected by the
aforementioned Ranger technique) aim at cutting off the uncooperative’s reserves (allies, ‘friends’,
etc – including anyone controlling the uncooperative concerned), and one (or a few, possibly connected by the
aforementioned Ranger technique) giving extra
energy to whoever needs it – possibly at the behest of someone who is in ….
gasp! shock! horror! … in command, or leading, or directing, or Weaving it all
together, or whatever other term you wish to use for someone whose skill is tactics.
So … having shared that dream, I’ll go back and watch the rest of the
film now :)

I started this blog to cover karmic regression-rescue (see here and here), and it grew ... See here for my group mind project, here and here for my "pagans for peace" project (and join me at 9 PM on Sunday, wherever you are, to meditate for peace), and here for my bindrune kit-bag. I also strongly recommend learning how to flame, ground and shield, do alternate nostril breathing, work with colour - and see also here, and be flexible.

Indolence vs. perspicacity, and expediency vs. honour.
- The means shape the end.

- My favourite action movie of all time is "Gandhi", although I've recently come across "Invictus" and might put that one in to that category. However, I loathe the stereotypical action movie - and, for similar reasons, I loathe many dramas, which are often emotionally violent, more so in some cases than many war films.
- All of the above - and this blog - could be wrong, or subject to context, perspective, or state of spiritual evolution ...

Few men are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, and the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world which yields most painfully to change." SENATOR ROBERT F. KENNEDY (US Attorney General 1966 Speech)
Too
much and too long, we seem to have surrendered community excellence and
community values in the mere accumulation of material things. Our gross
national product ... if we should judge America by that -- counts air
pollution and cigarette advertising, and ambulances to clear our
highways of carnage. ... Yet the gross national product does not allow
for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the
joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the
strength of our marriages; the intelligence of our public debate or the
integrity of our public officials. It measures neither our wit nor our
courage; neither our wisdom nor our learning; neither our compassion nor
our devotion to our country; it measures everything, in short, except
that which makes life worthwhile." ROBERT F. KENNEDY 1968
