Post No. 1,171 - When someone is in palliative care

This is just a quick note about some recent work helping others, which is more or less based on - in part - an adaptation of the Harry Potter Expecto Patronum spell (which have written about previously).

The context here is someone with basic psychic skills, who was unable to get to a relative-in-law who is in palliative care:
  • set up protection, as per normal;
  • ask the person to relax and get comfortable - to the extent that they are able;
  • ask the person to think of a time when they were supported after a loss, recreate that energy and concentrate it into a sphere in the heart chakra (which is where having some basic psychic skills helps - otherwise, a key part of this would be teaching the person how to work with energy), then send the supportive energy to the relative;
  • next, direct the person to think of a time when they experience a loss which eventually turned into something good, put the energy into a sphere in the heart chakra, and then send it to the person who is in palliative care (death can feel, initially at least, like a loss - especially of loved ones, children in particular  until one has a chance to learn more about life after passing);
  • next, think of a time when one was supported in a situation when one felt helpless, put the energy into a sphere in the heart chakra, and then send it to the person who is in palliative care, the relative, all those around them, and to the person doing the work, creating a loop of supportive, loving (or loving-kindness, if you prefer) energies;
  •  finally, have the person ask a caring Deity they trust (in this instance, we used Kwan Yin) to put their hands on the loop, and boost it.
I keep meaning to type up these little examples of work, but I am usually too tired and time poor from my day job to do so.

Post No. 893 - Videos

Some time ago I posted a "video" (it's really more audio, than video) of using some spells from Harry Potter for protection. I've now come up with a slightly better version:

I have also developed pseudo-videos (more audios!) of opening, closing and daily protection prayers.

I also created a pseudo-video (audios)of the monthly Hope, Peace, Love and Prosperity Spell, but as that is a whopping 18 Mb in size, dithered before getting it uploaded here ... SIGH ... may be time to get a presence on YouTube ...

(By the way, I did try doing this through the more widespread method of taping myself reading this out, but (a) my snoz is WAY too prominent, and (b) I think it is handy to be able to read the words at the same time, and my computer skills don't extend that far ... yet :) Oh, and I won't be giving up my day job :D )

Post No. 529 - Some thoughts from watching a magical film series

PS - since the author of this series of books has become a notorious transphobe, I do not endorse her and her output in any way, shape or form, and wish to distance myself from her and her output. I will edit these over time, and will likely remove all references.

I’ve been watching the <magical film series> , and I have to say … wizards and witches in that Universe suck at combat. But then again, so do many who serve the Light in this world as well.

That’s not to say none have courage, skill and tenacity, the sort of individual attributes smiled upon by Valkyrja and The Morrigan (who appears to have claimed me, making her a Patron Deity of mine, according to accepted understanding – which always seems crazy to me, as I’m a servant to my Patron Deities, not the other way round), but their understanding of psychic combat is as limited as … a child coming up against the power and organisation of, say, the USA’s armed forces – and, no matter what you may think of their involvement in wars since the Second World War, they are a powerful military force, and, although it may take time, they generally do learn the lessons of their failures in combat (none of which lessons are necessarily lessons in ethics, and have nothing to do with the politics of being in that particular combat situation; I don't know if they give lessons in determining which orders are lawful or not, which I understand the Aussie military does).

Now, in case you think this is all meaningless rubbish, probably the most common situation that I need such skills is when dealing with an uncooperative [3]. This is someone who is maliciously, knowingly using their situation as an earthbound entity to gain power at the expense of others – and possibly to actively harm others. They may well be doing so out of some personal injury they received, and they unquestionably need help, but the overriding concern with such people is stopping them doing more harm to others (they’ve usually, in my experience, gone long past harming the people who injured or wronged them, and now are lashing out at anyone with a minor similarity to those people, or who are simply in the vicinity – which is a theme explored by the story “The Jackal”, by Vera Nazarian in the Marion Zimmer Bradley edited “Darkover”  anthology, “Four Moons of Darkover”).

As an example, consider the defences set up at the start of the battle: a truly impressive dome, created using spells that I have (partly) adopted in real life. In real life, some people forget to make sure that the defences cover above and below, mostly during their less experienced periods of life when they are still learning.

How could that be improved?

Well, military thinking for small forces engaged in combat (and I am simplifying dreadfully here, so apologies to anyone reading who has military training - I haven't, by the way, just read a lot and have rellies who have served in the military) is to always make sure your rear is defended – in other words, someone is watching to see if an attack could come from somewhere unexpected. The aim is also to have a force in reserve, able to be committed to areas of defence that need

What is the psychic equivalent of that? Looking at frequencies higher and lower than that you’re working on.

In a real life rescue of an uncooperative (and the aim is to rescue them, but after the harm they’re doing is stopped, and their victims are receiving healing), my ideal would be to have at least three people doing nothing connected with the rescue, but only continuously working at maintaining psychic defences around those doing the actual rescue work: one focused on the realm that the others are being worked on, one focused on frequencies that are lower than that realm (thus aiming to prevent a psychic attack coming from, say, the etheric to the lower astral), and one doing the same for frequencies above the realm where the rescue is focused.

In addition, have someone in the physical watching these three, and channelling energy to whoever is struggling, as they’re probably coming under more attack. That person is the reserve force.

I’ve got to admit I’ve never been able to try this out, as I haven’t had the luxury of a large enough group of properly trained, capable people to be able to spare four people for such work, but if I had enough people … I could make each person a pair: one sitting up and thinking of defences on one axis (akin to doing defences to the four quarters), and one laying down doing the axis at right angles (akin to doing above and below). (Of course, that panders to people’s weakness in this area, rather than fixing the weakness, but that may be what is most pragmatic at the time.) Or … I could make each person actually a group of three who have connected their chakras using the Ranger technique I wrote about here and here.

Another thing that small military forces aim to do is to have a medic available. I would like to have at least one healer, and possibly more, available to help this group. At the spiritualist place I used to go to, I was trying to train enough people and set up a roster so I could have some healers turn up early, and give healing to those doing the set up and who were going to be working, one lot doing healing during the event, and another lot to give healing to people afterwards – particularly those who are packing up. For a major rescue event, it may be OK to have participants give healing to each other before starting (if they are capable of doing so competently, which may not necessarily be the case if their skills are in other areas, such as defence, or rescue, or scouting, etc), but other healers would be needed during the event and afterwards.

When we look at the work being done, well ... at the commencement of the battle, people are running aimlessly back and forth. There is no sense of being organised, and it is no wonder the forces of <evil> get into the castle. If, however, the wizards and witches had organised themselves using things like overlapping fields of fire, reserves, etc, maybe that wouldn’t have happened (then again, maybe it would have: the castle had a large perimeter, and there were not many capable wizards and witches … so maybe withdraw into something defensible? Of course, all this sort of commentary applies to the world created, where spells are largely one directional things coming out of wands – which is not the case in real life, where spells can be multidirectional).

How do we apply such principles to something like rescue of an uncooperative? Well, have one (or a few, possibly connected by the aforementioned Ranger technique) directly engaged with the uncooperative, trying to talk to and clear and heal them so they can be rescued, while one (or a few, possibly connected by the aforementioned Ranger technique) aim at freeing the entities who are being controlled [4] by the uncooperative and making sure they receive healing and whatever other assistance is needed (some, but not all, will themselves be earthbound, and thus in need of help to pass over), one (or a few, possibly connected by the aforementioned Ranger technique) aim at cutting off the uncooperative’s reserves (allies, ‘friends’, etc – including anyone controlling the uncooperative concerned), and one (or a few, possibly connected by the aforementioned Ranger technique) giving extra energy to whoever needs it – possibly at the behest of someone who is in …. gasp! shock! horror! … in command, or leading, or directing, or Weaving it all together, or whatever other term you wish to use for someone whose skill is tactics.

So … having shared that dream, I’ll go back and watch the rest of the film now :)

Post No. 500 - Perspectives

I have enjoyed not having to go to work this last couple of weeks, and have spent most of the time sleeping and resting in other ways (except for, according to the family joke, stirring every hour, on the hour, on the 25th to go out to the front lawn, say "Bah! Humbug!" to the world, and then stamp grumpily back into my cave :) ). One of those ways of recovering has been by watching movies, one of which has been "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part One" [2].

In that movie there is a scene where Severus Snape, who has not yet been revealed to be working for the 'good' people (there are some interesting shades of grey coming out at this stage of the cycle of films), arrives at the location of the antagonist, Voldemort, and sees a minor character, Charity Burbage, being tortured. Shortly after Snape arrives, Charity is killed - at which point I started wondering about a Christian saying to the effect "he who saves one soul, it is as if they have saved the world" (which I came across in Marion Zimmer Bradley's "Heartlight").

Snape could have saved Charity, but at considerable risk to himself, and definitely his mission would have been ended and the chances of Voldemort winning increased very significantly. So, in that - fictional - context, saving one life would NOT "save the Universe".

On the other hand, I recall reading of a story (which was itself mentioned in another work of fiction, so 'twas fiction within fiction) about a world where everyone can have a perfect life at the expense of one person who suffers incredibly for the whole world. In that context, saving that one person would have saved the whole world, as it would have forced everyone to take responsibility and act as adults.

Both of these are fictional examples. In the real world, most people live in situations where they do not have the opportunity to do work that will impact on large numbers of other people, and in that context, treating every person with dignity is the equivalent of "saving a person", and does, in a sense "save the world" as that person is central to the world that they influence - a theme which was explored by Jim Butcher in the Dresden Files short story "The Warrior" (mentioned because I have just re-read it; it is in the collection "Side Jobs").

There are grey areas around this. As an example, I had a discussion recently about helping the homeless, and my perspective was based on my experience of meeting an occasional homeless person, but not seeing the same person day after day after day, as the young woman I had been speaking to had, and thus we had slightly different perspectives on this (I was OK with giving money directly to the homeless, in addition to donations to charitable organisations, whereas the young woman I was speaking to favoured the charitable organisations as money given directly to the homeless people she was seeing day after day - in a different country, but one considered to be an advanced society/economy - had not, in her experience, changed their lives ... and both of us were very aware, by the way, of issues such as underfunded mental health services and escape from situations of abuse).

There are also exceptions to this. There are people who can and sometimes - not always - do influence the lives of large numbers of people, and thus possibly have to undertake the sort of weighing up that is the idea I am exploring. Such people include the obvious, such as politicians, media magnates, writers such as J.K Rowling, Gandhi (I've watched my "favourite action movie" as part of my recuperation), some of the famous, and so forth. But it also includes less obvious people - people who know how to do the clearing I have been writing about since these two very early posts on this blog (here and here), for instance, or people with strong psychic and/or spiritual influence.

I've written about such people previously -for instance, when I reviewed Dion Fortune's book "The Magical Battle of Britain" (my copy pub. Skylight Press, 2012, ISBN 978-1-908011-45-9, see here). Others have talked about this as well - for example, Sri Aurobindo apparently claimed that he had strengthened the defenders at Stalingrad by his powers of meditation (see "Briefing for the Landing on Planet Earth" by Stuart Holroyd).

In the case of less famous, but still competent practitioners, there is still a balancing act required - for instance, between participation in the social expectations of this time of year in order to preserve one's social networks and help others to enjoy themselves (or, at least, stay out of the way as much as possible) vs. addressing issues such as the civil war in South Sudan, the ongoing troubles in the Middle East, the Central African Republic crisis, the ongoing risk of a MAJOR war over the Senkaku / Diaoyu / Tiaoyutai islands, the worrying behaviour of some nation's leaders (e.g. Putin, and the appalling treatment of LGBTIQ people by Russia), and the continuing crises/crimes against humanity of poverty, hunger and thirst. People do not stop dying or suffering for Christmas ...

When I look at those issues, it helps me to put the festivities of this time of year into context, to not forget the privilege I have had by being born into middle class Australia, and to try and make sure I do what I can, whenever and wherever I can, for those who are less fortunate.

What will you do - right now, in the next few days or weeks, and over your life?

Post No. 292 - flaming and bursts of "good vibes"

One of the things I have done recently is start attending a spiritualist temple so I can have an outlet for my channelled energy healing (see here and here). Well, my membership card turned up today, so I can now say I am a card carrying spiritualists, as WELL as a card carrying Pagan (because of my membership of the Pagan Awareness Network) :)

Something else I have started doing is working my way through a series of films based on the premise of a world with physical magic in it. At the time, some of them were quite inspiring, but the discriminatory attitudes of the author of the books the films are based on has robbed them of that by tainting them with a powerful connection to wrongdoing.

The films also raised the potential value of tuning into current mass consciousness, as films may build up mass thought form, for instance ... the mechanics of how don't matter to me as much as they seem to work.

It reminds me very much of one of the early techniques I developed, when I was in Queensland, before I had received any formal training. From reading Lobsang Rampa's books I knew about thought forms and the use of breathing exercises, and I knew about the various Deity name correspondences of the Spheres of the Qaballah, so I combined these together to create a thought, built while I was using the "alternate nostril breathing" technique I had read about in Lobsang Rampa's "Wisdom of the Ancients", to create a thought form of me radiating - powerfully - positive energy whenever I chanted Eheieh (pronounced - rhythmically - "Eh-hey-ee-ah"), which is the Deity name corresponding with the Sphere Kether. It creates a burst of "good vibes" - and some films show just how powerful that can be.

Later, when I learned about flaming, I added that to the mix.

As a final point, I have worked out a way to import material from Word, so I have pasted my notes on "flaming" from my workshop notes at the end of this post. Enjoy :)

2.2 Flaming
Flaming is the concept of purposefully using energy to clear “negative” energy from one’s aura.
The aim of this is to develop an ability to undertake some steps to look after one’s psychic health (particularly with respect to one’s aura).
Ø basic awareness of non-physical health issues
Ø introduction to purposefully directing energy
Ø basic familiarity with several flaming techniques
Also note that the aura extends beyond the outlines of the physical body. How far it extends depends of factors such as the energy state of the person, and what nonphysical levels one is considering.
The first technique fits into the “bad out” category, but can be adapted for use in the “good in” category. The technique is called flaming, and involves use of personal will and skills to generate “positive” energies in a way that removes energies and nonphysical objects from your aura that are not a constructive influence for you. Those energies could simply be incompatible with your energies (a bit like a clash of colours, or an unpleasant discordance in music, or an unpleasant smell intruding into an aromatherapy session), or more actively counter to your wellbeing.
A common example of the latter is being on the receiving end of unresolved jealousy. The jealousy energy can be actively harmful to your psychic wellbeing – it’s basically a form of psychic attack. (This does NOT mean all incidents of jealousy result in projected energy that impacts in the target’s aura: but some does.[1])
There are a number of benefits to getting into a regular habit of flaming. These include:
Ø the obvious and intended benefit of removing incompatible or negative energy
Ø development of healthy psychic habits
Ø improved psychic strength
Ø practice at directing energy in a purposeful way.
OK, so how do you actually do this?
Most commonly, flaming is accomplished by visualisation. Other senses, however, can also be used. Try the following techniques and note which work well for you, which are neutral, and which feel uncomfortable (note that your assessment may change after practising these techniques a little more, or in different circumstances):
Technique
Your comments
1. Visualise a candle in the centre of your body, and feel the heat and light of the candle radiating out through your body and aura, dissolving and/or displacing anything you do not want there.

2. Visualise a fire burning in the centre of your body, and allow the fire to gradually spread, “burning out impurities” as it does so, until your entire aura is left glowing brightly

3. Visualise a light bulb turning on in your centre, and radiating out bright light

4. Visualise a waterfall of light washing through and cleansing your aura, washing any negative energy into Mother Earth for recycling

5. Feel the energy of Mother Earth radiating up, through your Earth Star chakra[2] and your feet, into your aura, dislodging anything negative and drawing that back into Mother Earth for recycling

6. “Hear” a pleasant musical chord or refrain building up, as if from the centre of your body (the solar plexus chakra, if you are aware of chakras) and transforming anything discordant within your aura into something harmonious

7. “Smell” a strong pleasant scent (e.g., a favourite flower) and allow that smell to pervade your aura, flushing out or transforming any unpleasant smells

Techniques exist for strengthening these various techniques (other than lots of practice). These include:
Technique
Your comments
i. Visualise yourself flaming strongly, whilst building an association with a word. Chant the word (mentally only, if necessary) to help strengthen the technique.

ii. Visualise a nonphysical object such as a crystal, and send lots of positive energy to it at times of your own choosing, when feeling energised or “up” (technically, this is creating a thought form)

iii. Connect the flow of energy to your breathing (generally build energy up as you breathe in [take in prana], and “flush” as you exhale)

See Figure 4 for an example illustration.

Figure 4
There is a view that any one “place” in the Universe is potentially connected to all other places in the Universe. This concept, if applied to flaming, suggests that we aren’t really using an internal source of energy: it is more a case of tuning in and accessing the Universe’s enormous stores of energy.
Of course, that concept also applies, to some extent, to the notion of accessing energy from our Higher Self, or from other sources, when visualising energy coming into us while using breathing.
