Amongst all the serious reading, I also read some fiction for relaxation. One of the series I go to fairly regularly for that purpose is Katharine Kerr’s Deverry series. As I commented here, the authoress has researched the history of magic in the West, and what she writes is consistent with that. (As I also mentioned, I disagree with some of the practices of that era, but her research is sound and the writing excellent - I used "magnificent" in my review.)
In one the books, one of the main protagonists is described as using a hexagram - formed out of interlacing two triangles, one red, one blue - as an aid to clairvoyance, much as others would use a crystal ball, perhaps. I've tried this, albeit a little half heartedly, in the past without much success, but last night I needed to do some checking on a psychic attack, and tried using the technique more seriously (although I made the device all gold), and I found it actually worked quite well. I was able to identify the source of the energies, get rid of them, help heal the person who had been so scarred that they had inadvertently become the source of the attack, and all without having to get out of bed.
Cool - I now have an additional method of working for my psychic tool kit, one I can carry with me wherever I go s it doesn't rely on physical devices.
However, going back to physical devices, some time ago I reviewed the book “The Exorcist's Handbook” (Golem Media, 3rd edition, 2010, ISBN 978-1-937002-43-5, Amazon), by Josephine McCarthy, who is also responsible for this website. In that review I commented:
I’m also looking forward to trying
and adapting the tailored divination deck she describes for readers to
make. By the time I've added in the runic and galactic heritage card (which I came across through this book, see this post) influences I also work with, and trim out the influences I don't, I think I will have a nifty little-ish personalised deck.
Well, it’s taken some time, but I now have enough of that deck made to be able to start working with it.
I’ve added cards to cover the approaches I have, and, although I have yet to complete “the minor cards”, I will be interested in seeing if this helps me identify and clear nonBPM units.
I’ll let you, Dear Reader, know in due course.
PS - the cards are working out quite well, and provide an additional, new perspective on situations.
