Post No. 3,429 - And another writing platform turns out to be ... flawed

After I left my day job (open to new [NON-engineering] offers now 😊 ), I left a professionals' social media platform when they refused to act against an act of misogyny. After a few years, I rejoined to try to promote my new business, but I am in a different part of that platform where misogynists and other bigots would be drowned out by the users of the platform ... but I am very aware that there are some rabid bigots hating away on parts of that platform - a small proportion, but given the incompetence of whoever made that decision that drove me away, and no doubt countless other decisions, that small proportion is, in effect, protected and covered up. 

It's a micro version of what was done by the E_st__n class and their sock puppets. 

And it happens, to varying extent elsewhere. 

I left another social media platform when some racist commentary by a trans person was responded to with transphobia - both sides were wrong, and it was impossible to respond in any way, shape, or form. (Other social media platforms have been ... so-so.)  

I went to Medium as a writing platform, but they changed their rules just after I arrived and it made trying to earn an impossibility unless you wrote in what I considered a commercial, inauthentic manner. Nevertheless, I did a fair bit of writing there before deciding to put my energy elsewhere (I was still in my former day job, and didn’t have enough energy for what they wanted). 

Now I've gone to SubStack, and, although I haven’t done the spiritual interviews I wanted to do, I am reasonably happy with what I’m doing there. 

It’s slow going - much as this blog didn’t really take off until around 2021, my 15^th year of blogging (with signs of growth from around 2015, my 9^th year of blogging). I don’t have that many years of life left, and I need to get a better income somewhere because of family issues so my efforts will have to go elsewhere.  

But, in terms of the main theme of this post, I had a fair idea there were right wingers somewhere on SubStack - and that has now been confirmed, with one being a particularly appalling person.  

And SubStack has refused to moderate any extremists content ... (see here).  

So ... what do I do? Ghost is apparently better financially, but I am not making any money so that isn’t relevant, and SubStack is apparently simpler - but some reviews swap that order.  

Or do I just return to focusing on this blog ...  

 

Right now I am too exhausted to decide, but when I do make a decision, Dear Reader, I will let you know.  

PS - the writing I do on SubStack is different to the writing I do here, so I will also continue the SubStack writing, but at a lower level of intensity. 

After I made that decision, an author I have respected for some time has posted this:   “Andrew T_ot_ is on Substack. You know what? I’m not leaving. I’ve spent the last four years searching for a home, and I’m not going to let one more misogynist push me off the only platform where I still have a voice. If you’re a man telling me to leave Substack, consider your own privilege. You can just go somewhere else. I can’t.”

Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider: 

• there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan  Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;  
• I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.

Post No. 3,362 - My next SubStack newsletter, and some reading

I have got my fourth SubStack newsletter out this morning, and I feel like I'm finally starting to get the hang of that. 

In reflecting on the writing skills of others on SubStack, I grapple with my cautious approach – which has been shaped by experiences in a conservative profession and as a community activist. Life limitations, including family health matters and past trauma, have led to actions such as disabling comments on my blog to avoid abuse and manage time. I contrast my struggle with Centrelink and the challenges of personal trauma to others who seem unaffected by life's adversities, and acknowledge my need for self-acceptance and recognition of my life experiences, particularly after being a driven over-achiever. The discussion touches on themes of writing, life challenges, and personal growth. 
I also detail some current projects: advising for recording setup to commence spiritual interviews, significant progress on lived experience presentations, including completed work on autism and drafts on LGBTQIASB+ and Paganism; my plans to offer courses on Udemy, starting with a dowsing course, contingent on the required audio setup; additionally, I intend to issue more ISBN copies of my writing on Patreon, but need a PO Box, but getting that is complicated by my trauma around bureaucracy and financial issues. I am also working on large courses focusing on psychic/spiritual development and my autobiography, which will include stories assisting a young friend in Africa during the COVID lockdowns – which I will publish in these newsletters as they are suitably edited (the first of these stories, on starting at Uni in Queensland in the 1970s, is included in the current newsletter).
I also look at 2026: difficult living conditions will persist in various regions, particularly in parts of Africa facing war and governance challenges. Australia’s corporate media will likely focus primarily on the USA, Ukraine, and Israel-Gaza, neglecting broader global issues. Those with personal resources will navigate challenges better than those without, which is a situation exacerbated by half a century of destructive, anti-community, anti-person neoliberal policies. The Australian ALP government will face internal and external pressures to improve its response to these crises. However, overall I consider resistance to global issues will strengthen despite worsening conditions.
