After I left my day job (open to new [NON-engineering] offers now 😊 ), I left a professionals' social media platform when they refused to act against an act of misogyny. After a few years, I rejoined to try to promote my new business, but I am in a different part of that platform where misogynists and other bigots would be drowned out by the users of the platform ... but I am very aware that there are some rabid bigots hating away on parts of that platform - a small proportion, but given the incompetence of whoever made that decision that drove me away, and no doubt countless other decisions, that small proportion is, in effect, protected and covered up.
It's a micro version of what was done by the E_st__n class and their sock puppets.
And it happens, to varying extent elsewhere.
I left another social media platform when some racist commentary by a trans person was responded to with transphobia - both sides were wrong, and it was impossible to respond in any way, shape, or form. (Other social media platforms have been ... so-so.)
I went to Medium as a writing platform, but they changed their rules just after I arrived and it made trying to earn an impossibility unless you wrote in what I considered a commercial, inauthentic manner. Nevertheless, I did a fair bit of writing there before deciding to put my energy elsewhere (I was still in my former day job, and didn’t have enough energy for what they wanted).
Now I've gone to SubStack, and, although I haven’t done the spiritual interviews I wanted to do, I am reasonably happy with what I’m doing there.
It’s slow going - much as this blog didn’t really take off until around 2021, my 15th year of blogging (with signs of growth from around 2015, my 9th year of blogging). I don’t have that many years of life left, and I need to get a better income somewhere because of family issues so my efforts will have to go elsewhere.
But, in terms of the main theme of this post, I had a fair idea there were right wingers somewhere on SubStack - and that has now been confirmed, with one being a particularly appalling person.
And SubStack has refused to moderate any extremists content ... (see here).
So ... what do I do? Ghost is apparently better financially, but I am not making any money so that isn’t relevant, and SubStack is apparently simpler - but some reviews swap that order.
Or do I just return to focusing on this blog ...
Right now I am too exhausted to decide, but when I do make a decision, Dear Reader, I will let you know.
Possible flaws
Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:
