Something I have wondered about at times (including my previous post) is why some people resist progressive change - which includes people who claim to be, or to want to be spiritual, as so many of them are aiming to protect their social status and thus engage in things like spiritual bypassing.
I consider such matters on my political blog as well - for instance, “A question: where does cluelessness / being out-of-touch come from?” https://politicalmusingsofkayleen.blogspot.com/2024/09/a-question-where-does-cluelessness.html
But today’s thought - or thought process - started by contemplating something I read somewhere recently, and have been trying to track down in the last 12 hours - unsuccessfully (it was, I thought, either in something Robert Reich wrote, or in Timothy Snyder’s new book “On Freedom” [pub. Vintage Digital, 19 September 2024, ISBN 978-1-529-92927-0; website, NPR review, goodreads; Penguin, Kobo, Apple books, Amazon], but could also have been somewhere on The Guardian): a comment to the effect that left wing inclined people identify with victims, whereas right wing inclined people are drawn to people who have power.
It was the aspect of being drawn to power that caught my attention - particularly as I had seen something online which had characters who were praising the alleged virtue of blind loyalty.
That is a problem in the corporate world, although I am aware (e.g., from “Briefing for the Landing on Planet Earth”) that many people want to be part of something bigger - which can be either “good” (BPM) or “bad” (nonBPM).
From a spiritual perspective, people who are willingly submerging themselves in power structures - whether they are doing so for social status or protection or a sense of superiority or some other character flaw - are abdicating their personal sovereignty and sacrificing their maturity by outsourcing their ethics, thinking, and personality to others.
They would prefer to be a happy serf, even if it means - as it does - that they are stepping out of the flow of life, and stagnating into a pale shadow of what they could be if they were truly courageous ...
Of course, the same problem can crop up - with slight variations - elsewhere, including elsewhere on the political spectrum, but I consider this awareness is going to help me with my spiritual work and with my activism - especially as it is this problem on the right wing that is destroying the world in so many ways right now ...
Possible flaws
Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:

- I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.
