Post No. 364 - [Content Warning] The Origin of Evil

To consider the origin of evil, it is, in my opinion, first necessary to review the nature of reality, and I am going to do so from a pagan point of view.

To begin with, the Goddess created the God, and then pursued the God to be re-joined as one - which is a metaphor (or allegory, if your school preferred :) ) to Deity creating the Universe, including the physical existence we live in. Now, most pagans I've come across leave it at (1) physical, and (2) non-physical including the Goddess [Note 1], and consider the purpose of existence to be to evolve until they re-join the Goddess (as so aptly expressed in the chant "We all come from the Goddess, and to her we shall return, like a drop of rain, flowing to the Ocean").

That's true enough, but I consider there is merit in looking at this in a little more. Assuming that Creation manifested downwards from the Goddess (i.e., devolution), why did the Lady get to the level of the astral world, and decide there was a need for another level of existence - the physical?

I'll pause while your heads spin round the notion that there is a purpose to each level of existence ... Settled? No? Tough :)

In my view (which, since I am currently incarnate is, by definition as it were, limited), a key aspect of the astral levels (yes, there are more than one) is that there is nothing that equates to the sense of physical distance or closeness that we have here in the physical. In the astrals, what is the equivalent of distance or closeness is harmony or disharmony: one naturally finds oneself existing only with people one is fundamentally compatible with - hence (in part) the wonderful feelings of acceptance, love and togetherness. It is possible to force oneself to change vibration and thus mingle to some extent with people who are not as compatible, but that takes effort (the more so as people become less compatible). I am of the view that the physical world was taken so we could meet and mingle and coexist with those who we are not naturally in harmony with - so we could come into the proximity of those other parts of the Universe that we may not have realised existed, or had not met, since it is - arguably, perhaps! - hard to unconditionally love that which you do not know exists, let alone know or understand ... (Incidentally, I am aware of things such as, in dreams or what is considered to be "astral" travel people can experience unpleasant things and people: in actual fact, that is actually more ETHERIC travel than astral travel - yes, there is a difference :) )

Why would the Goddess want this? Is it a case of "the magic of conflict", as one book was titled?

No, I do not consider it is. What I think this is more about is partly akin to having at least two sexes involved in reproduction, which gives a chance to mix DNA and come up with a more robust, adaptable species. By having people mingle and mix, it enables exchanges of ideas and energy and thus creation of a more robust and adaptable essence of life - which strengthens the Goddess inherently as it strengthens all of us, human and non-human, incarnate and discarnate, associated with this physical level of existence.

What this could also be about is learning to synthesise. As we evolve back towards the Goddess, eventually multiple streams of consciousness (i.e. souls) have to join together to become One with the Goddess. Initially, this is fairly easy as we merge with our parallel souls and re-join our Higher Self, but there will come a time when we have to merge with others who are not so compatible - albeit at a level of reality where they and we are both FAR more evolved than we could possible achieve on this physical level of existence. Being able to synthesise, which comes partly from things like being able to integrate our Shadow Self into our whole being and being able to exist and work harmoniously with those who are disharmonious to us, will be of key importance.

So how does this relate to the origin of "evil" (which, for my personal convenience, I'm not going to try and define in this post :) )?

Well, I consider that, when souls first came into this physical world, they came across other souls that were not in harmony with them - a bit like discovering two colours that can never be in harmony because they clash. There is NOTHING fundamentally wrong with either, it is simply that they are not in perfect harmony. Now, from the point of view of someone with some experience at living on this level of physical reality, I can say that there are lots of tools which have been developed to help people get along, tools such as communication, analysis, etc, but ultimately, it all boils down to being prepared to agree to disagree.

In those first few moments of disharmony, I think someone was unable to cope with the idea of agreeing to disagree, or to develop tools to work through difference, and thus reacted by trying to impose their ideas upon the other - i.e., "I am right, you are wrong".

That, not stuff like coming down from heaven and forgetting that one is a divine being, or the actions of some entity or other, or women, is what I consider led to what we see as "evil". Wars, violence, gossip, discrimination - they all can, in my view, be ultimately traced back to that initial inability to accept disharmony in constructive manner.

If you cannot "agree to disagree", or are not prepared to do so, then I consider YOU are continuing that fundamental flaw which led to what we consider evil. Ever give someone a hard time over which way they hang the toilet paper roll? Whether to fold, scrunch or do both? Use allegory or metaphor? You evil person you! :)

More seriously, I can also express this fundamental evil as "minding other people's business", and that is what gossip, discrimination, hate and all other forms of control are ultimately, in my view, based on.

There are a lot of other implications from this to consider - for instance, whether one should help or not in some situations (which is where karma, particularly the negative karma of inaction or failing to help, comes into consideration). There is also the fundamental purposes of learning to love unconditionally and to be all that one can be, but those purposes also apply on other levels (even more so, in some cases, than on this level), whereas the lesson of learning to cope with disharmony with grace (whilst not allowing harm to others to be propagated) is specific to this physical reality.

Notes:

  1. I feel a little like some pagans think it is a case of ... alive ... then *pop* one with the Goddess and all of Creation - no intermediate steps ... mmmm, I don't think so

Post No. 3,405 - Interesting reading/viewing

I recently found the following interesting and/or useful, and am posting them here in case anyone else does as well.

  • “Our Paranormal Afterlife : Finding Proof of Life After Death: Arriving in the Afterlife - What Happens Next?”   https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/our-paranormal-afterlife-finding-proof-of-life-after-death/id1354455555?i=1000754437731   “This episode I am reading from Matt Mckay's book 'Lessons from the Afterlife'. • Offers a step-by-step process to unleash the unconscious and intuitive wisdom held in the awareness of your soul: Deep Knowledge Meditation • Includes guided journal prompts to help you listen to your heart and shine a light on your own deepest wisdom and soul knowledge • Shares channelled lessons from the author’s late son Jordan on the mysteries of human existence, including what the divine or god is, the nature of a soul, the nature of matter and energy, the role of love in our lives, and the origin of the universe Human life is surrounded by mystery. At the centre of this mystery are the questions: Why are we here? Is there a purpose to our existence, a reason why we’re experiencing the beauty and pain of physical life? There is also the mystery of the universe itself. What is it and where did it come from? Religious and spiritual traditions have created complex cosmologies to answer these questions, but each tradition has a different answer, and we are left with profound uncertainty about deeper reality. As psychologist Matthew McKay reveals, we can each discover our own answers to these questions, our own inner truth, by connecting with the wisdom of our souls. In this guided workbook, McKay offers a step-by-step process to unleash the unconscious and intuitive wisdom held in the awareness of your soul. He explains how to use Deep Knowledge Meditation to access all of your soul’s accumulated knowledge, everything you have learned across all of your incarnations. Channelling his late son, Jordan, a discarnate soul who has lived hundreds of lives, McKay shares Jordan’s lessons on the mysteries of human existence, including what the Divine or God is, the nature of a soul, the nature of matter and energy, the role of love in our lives, and the origin of the universe. Accompanying these channelled teachings are journal prompts to be used with Deep Knowledge Meditation to help you listen to your heart and shine a light on your own deepest wisdom and soul knowledge. Guiding you on a journey of self-discovery, this book offers the opportunity to find your soul’s truth about your life’s purpose and the nature of physical reality. Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our MÓ•gan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).

This Blog as a Course - Lesson Two

One of the things I present in my blogiography is a set of suggestions on how to approach this blog as a course - that is, how to work through this chaotic hodge podge of material in such a way that some organised benefit may come from it. The first such lesson is aimed at improving the ability to think clearly. There are obvious advantages to this - not being taken for a ride by being too gullible,  being less likely to be brow beaten by sceptics, and becoming a more mature person - a spiritual adult.

There are also advantages in terms of starting to get to know oneself better, and being more alert and aware, which is crucial for developing one's psychism, if one wishes to, as well as enabling more effective spirituality.

This comes with a price, however: you may find yourself thinking so deeply that it is hard to e certain about anything any more.

Here are the notes from my blog on this. In this lesson, we start to apply the critical thinking skills learned in Lesson One to the concept of a Reality Map. The aim here is for you to convince yourself - dispassionately, calmly, objectively, and rationally - of the Nature of Reality - but not just your conscious mind, your other parts as well - unconscious, subconscious, and parallels. If you fail to do so, you will always have a part of yourself working against yourself, and will find the results of your efforts less succesful than they should be.

This will, to some extent, be an ongoing process, as I find the analogy that we are a layered as an onion to be quite apt.

Incidentally, each of these "lessons" may take many months to work through properly. They've not been done on the basis of doing these weekly or monthly.

Post No. 451 - An Alternative (pagan-ish) History of the World

Let's tell a history of the world ...

Once upon time Spirit / The Goddess / The Universe / The Light Behind All Deities decided to do some more learning / growing, for which more experience was necessary. The problem was that in "the void" / the astral, everything was in harmony - you were automatically close to those who were on the same wave length as yourself, and never came across anyone who was different. So, Spirit / The Goddess / The Universe / The Light Behind All Deities decided, in the interests of learning, to create a world where it was possible to be in the presence of those you were in disharmony with.

It was quite a novel concept, and, if it worked as intended, should strengthen the unity of the Spirit / The Goddess / The Universe / The Light Behind All Deities, as all the disparate bits of the Spirit / The Goddess / The Universe / The Light Behind All Deities would be better able to tolerate/accept and work with the other bits of the Spirit / The Goddess / The Universe / The Light Behind All Deities. It would be quite a step forward for the disparate bits to even be aware of each other, for a start.

So Spirit / The Goddess / The Universe / The Light Behind All Deities went ahead and created this physical level of reality. It was a bit of a bang of an event, actually, but let’s skip ahead to when one little part of this physical reality, the Planet Earth, was developing a bipedal organism with the capacity to shape the environment and, eventually, move off the planet and thus survive any future planetary killing asteroids. For reasons based on the nature of the rules that Spirit / The Goddess / The Universe / The Light Behind All Deities had created as part of this physical reality, the bipedal organism used two sexes to reproduce, thereby mixing bits of the parental organisms and allowing change which, when successful, would lead to evolution. When unsuccessful, the change would become a candidate for a Darwin Award ...

All well and good, except for the short sightedness - metaphorically, as their physical eyesight (and other senses) was quite outstanding at that time - of the bipeds, who started building up all sorts of rules around - well, nothing, really.

At the time that the bipeds were developing all these rules, they were living as gatherer-hunters. There weren't very many of them, and they were feeling fairly insecure about that lack, so they decided to set about making sure there would be lots more of them. It took what they thought was a fairly long time for a new biped to be born after conception, so they started building up their rules around protecting what they would later refer to, when they domesticated other lifeforms, as "breeding stock".

Of course, in doing so, they started losing some of the tolerance of diversity that was the whole point of this physical reality coming into existence, but sometimes you just can't argue with a biped that is armed with a sharp stick, a thick head and not too much in the way of grunts.

Some of them were really struggling with this whole being-in-contact-with-things-that-weren't-in-harmony-with-them thing, and started behaving quite badly. Some of it was petty - jealousy and the like; some of it was worse, and included attempts at changing or controlling others, which led to some quite nasty behaviours that would later be described - when the bipeds had extended their range of grunts to include this particular sequence of sounds - as "evil". Those attempts at changing or controlling others included the formation of stereotypes - some of which were based on generalities, but all of which failed to take account of the wonderful diversity that is one of the key wonders of this Universe generally, including this physical reality and life as sub-sets of the Universe which also feature diversity as one of their key wonders.

This was most noticeable, perhaps, with regard to those bipeds who had the view that bipeds who could potentially bear bipedlets should not be hunting, they should gathering and grunting in a coo-like manner over bipedlets, whether they wanted to or not. Maybe this was part of the whole problem of bits of Spirit getting put into physical bodies which could, for want of a better term, die - they started looking at the surface, rather than the Spirit.

Of course it wasn't helped by those potentially-bipedlet-bearing-bipeds who decided they rather liked the idea of being looked after, and got quite pernickety, despite that word not having been invented yet, and started frowning upon - and worse - other potentially-bipedlet-bearing-bipeds who wanted to do outrageous things like hunting. And everyone frowned upon - and worse - those bipeds who couldn't potentially bear bipedlets who didn't want to hunt.

That didn't apply everywhere, though. From time to time, various groups of bipeds would "get it together", as some future bipeds would grunt, and be tolerant of difference, and maybe do things like domesticate fire, refine the manufacture and use of tools, domesticate quadrupeds, "invent" agriculture, and domesticate other bipeds - also known as "invent civilisation", which can be rather nice when done well.

Of course, sadly, at this time bipeds also started to discover that sometimes you just can't argue with a biped that is armed with a sharp stick, a thick head and not too much in the way of grunts - and promptly started attempting to do exactly that, with much effort devoted to getting sharper or bigger sticks and things like rocks, and recording or worshipping or both whatever biped had won what they would later refer to as "war". Groups of bipeds also even refined their grunts into languages so they could fail to understand other groups of bipeds entirely.

Now, one of the aspects of reality is that of a spiritual hierarchy: as well as Spirit / The Goddess / The Universe / The Light Behind All Deities, there are gods and goddesses of varying experience and power. There are also Manu’s in charge of groups and spirits in places, and the larger Spirit that inhabits the planet itself, called by some Sanat Kumara and by others Gaea. It's all a bit like a public service bureaucracy, except this one works and is user friendly - largely. One of the gods, a Canaanite hill spirit originally, would get quite uppity and have himself declared The One True God, and try to get all the other gods and goddesses kicked out of this particular planet, but that's a little down the track.

All very confusing, and what makes it worse - and is not widely known - is that all these gods and goddesses and Manu’s and spirits are also, as with the bipeds and quadrupeds and non-peds in this physical level of reality, learning and growing. In fact, you may recall that this whole mess was created because Spirit / The Goddess / The Universe / The Light Behind All Deities wanted to do a bit more growing/learning. Sadly, growth and learning is not always at a constant rate, nor even always in the right direction ... In fact, it got to the stage where one group of bipeds, a few centuries before the Canaanite hill spirit who had got all uppity warped the work of a very evolved soul who incarnated as a Jewish lad, decided to sack the whole working and user friendly bureaucracy and try something they called "Buddhism", which was also tried nearly two millennia later as "Humanism", after "Buddhism" had developed rather a lot of rules.

It is to be wondered whether or not at times various gods / goddesses / Spirit / The Goddess / The Universe / The Light Behind All Deities would wonder about scratching out all this lot, and trying again ... Hmmm ... Maybe they did, and found that they have to try to make it work or the bipeds will keep on making the same mistakes ...

It is known that some bipeds thought about scratching out all this lot from time to time, and some of the few vaguely almost justifiable conflicts have been against those who tried to do this, or to assert control in a nasty way over other bipeds.

One of the most recent of these was known as "the Second World War". It was a horribly destructive thing that killed a few per cent of the bipeds and bipedlets (far distant - in time - conflicts had actually killed higher percentages of the world's population of bipeds and bipedlets, but they had tended to be located in one part of the world), and its causes could be traced to how the previous "World War", the so-called "Great War" or "War to Finish All Wars", had finished, and led to some very destructive changes in technology (not just the thing the bipeds called the atomic bomb - other changes as well), and more changes in social structure - as had the previous "World War" (both of which, incidentally, did not actually include every single "nation" on the planet), but this particular whole sequence was thought by a few to mark a failure of the collective biped population to choose an opportunity of evolving to a better world.

As with all wars, both of these were marked by conflicts in non-physical realms. Almost all the various gods / goddesses / Manu's / etc were involved in trying to settle things down to some extent, but owing to the successes of the uppity Canaanite hill spirit, almost all of it got interpreted from the view of the religion the uppity Canaanite hill spirit had created out of the work of the evolved soul who incarnated as a Jewish lad almost two millennia previously. Bit of a biped-use-of-extremities-to-adversely-affect-biped-core (also known as "a kick in the guts") really, but the other gods / goddesses / Manu's / etc have had some success since "the Second World War" in reminding the bipeds that they do actually exist.

Mind you, a lot of the bipeds are still not noticing the lessons about evolving and growing and working with other bipeds and gods / goddesses / Manu's / etc and Spirit / The Goddess / The Universe / The Light Behind All Deities, but some of the bipeds and most, if not almost all of the gods / goddesses / Manu's / etc and Spirit / The Goddess / The Universe / The Light Behind All Deities are quietly confident that, given enough time and planets, the bipeds will get there ... they're all just hoping it will be THIS planet in the not-too-distant-future, so they can all Happily Evolve Ever After.

The End - of this telling of the story So Far.

[2] Please see here and my post "The Death of Wikipedia" for the reasons I now recommend caution when using Wikipedia. I'm also exploring use of h2g2, although that doesn't appear to be as extensive (h2g2 is intended - rather engagingly - to be the Earth edition of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy").

My "blogiography" is here.

I started this blog to cover karmic regression-rescue (see here and here), and it grew ...  See here for my group mind project, here and here for my "pagans for peace" project, and here for my bindrune kit-bag.
  • May the world of commerce and business be recognised to be a servant, not a master, of the lives of people.
  • A home is for living in, not feeling, becoming or being rich or a “better” class than others.
  • The secret to being (financially) rich is not to have lots of money: it is to have an income above the poverty line, and then make whatever sacrifices are necessary in order to live within 90% of your means.
  • Like fire to the physical, emotions to the soul make a good servant, and a bad master.
  • Armageddon is alive and well and happening right now: it is a battle between the indolence of "I only ..." and/or "I just ..." and what Bruce Schneier [2] calls "security theatre" on one side, and perspicacity and the understanding that the means shape the end on the other.
  • The means shape the end.
  • Sometimes you just can't argue with a biped that is armed with a sharp stick, a thick head and not too much in the way of grunts.
  • Spiritual love is far more than just an emotion - it is a concept, thoughts, actions and a way of living.
Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger [people]. JOHN F. KENNEDY

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good [people] to do nothing. (based on writing by) EDMUND BURKE

Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it is not haphazard and superficial. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
