Over at my creativity blog, I wrote a poem comparing a human being in a spiritual trap to what happens to an animal in a physical trap: you basically start to destroy yourself in the attempt to be free. Most jobs in this era of neoliberalism are like that - soul crushing, emotionally destructive traps.
And it is people's greed for more things (bigger, flashier, more poorly built houses, "devices, etc) that, to quite an extent, allows that sort of mindlessness to continue - aided and abetted, in many cases, by tools for coping, such as the business fad version of mindfulness (how to destroy yourself for longer and more thoroughly in the service of someone else's quest for profit so they can harm the world more by buying more stuff) and thoughtlessly - uncritically - buying into political and economic worldviews.
Even progressive politics is problematic, as some formerly progressive parties show signs of changing into consumer-protection parties, rather than aiding workers (the engineering registration disaster in my home state is an example of that - I've written about that here, but while you're there also look here, here, and here).
Is there a solution?
Yes. Start to stand on your own two feet - physically (especially financially, for those who do not have dependents or factors restricting work [such as illness]), emotionally (you should be capable of being alone without any problems), mentally (or, if you prefer, intellectually - and, in my opinion, if you feel the need to argue the point you are showing a lack of emotional maturity), and spiritually.
Be BPM.
As a further development of that, do not rush to identify yourself as an ET / hybrid / "otherkin" : I have no doubt that there are such people, but it can also be an emotional prop along the lines of "see, I'm not really part of that group who are doing all those nasty and wrong things, I'm really one of these other, more glamorous groups".
You need to be objective in such things, and that means you need to deal with the above possibility as if it were real.
And then, whether you're one of us or them, get on with making the world a better place.
