Post No. 3,412 - Evil ... and anti-evil

I hate to write this, but evil appears to be winning, right now - not only by acting through the mind-in-neutral (amathiac) sock puppets and character-in-neutral “don’t upset them” enablers of patriarchy in, near, and acting for governments who are doing the evil of the far right (especially in the USA, but also to lesser extent with my nation's timid, inactive tending to ineffective on big issues national government - and elsewhere), including denying the capacity of young and lower income people by preventing them being taught critical thinking and rhetoric, but also through the cumulative effects of global disasters and the current risks in the Israeli-led US-acceded-to war against Iran and sanity.

On that lattermost point, note these news articles:

But there is another, clearer, and more concerning indicator:

the loss of hope ...

That became clear to me tonight through my young friend in Africa - the one we supported (his family, as well as him - and any Australian who whinges “it’s welfare, not social security” is a ****ing idiot - try standing in Việt Nam and giving a mother money to get medicine for her unconscious, ill child and knowing they need access to a hospital that I can’t provide, or knowing my friend’s family could only bring his father home to die painfully over several days after a workplace accident, knowing they would have no income as there is no social security for widows, the unemployed, etc in that nation [I’m NOT going to discuss how I know this to be true]) through Uni, and are still doing so as he obtains a necessary post-graduate qualification for his career: writing to him tonight, he is feeling that he is getting nowhere - which is something I can relate to, having felt the same too often since I retired.

The widespread chaos and fear (especially of not being able to survive - whether financially or, in a war zone, physically) and unrelenting stress & pressure are increasing people’s vulnerabilities to evil, and too many people (especially politicians, but mostly voters who failed to recognise the obvious - perhaps out of spite, as much as ideological blindness) are succumbing ...

And this is when it is even more important to keep trying - and to call out the rubbish that has been accepted as “normal” - more accurately: common or usual, but, in the long term, unnatural.

I tend to get overwhelmed, take some time to recover as best I can, and then resume & continue.

As I do so, I have the advantage of having studied history, which tells me that the fight to abolish slavery took over two and a half millennia, but was successful ... after which enslavers changed their methods, and nations adapted to that as well.

Right now, evil is doing better than any time in the last 80 years - evil was possibly more successful in the 1930s and early 1940s than now, but not by much ... but it lost.

Every empire that has existed has fallen - as the USA is doing now.

From the other side, China had a “Century of Humiliation”, but is now well and truly emerging from that as a world power.

The USSR created hell for around seven decades, but fell (and the fall was commercialised by the USA and thus sabotage, but the USA is not going to be in a position to do that sort of damage again)

The so-called “Dark Ages” mostly weren’t (the elites lost out and gave it that label), but knowledge - especially scientific knowledge - was kept alive then in the world of Islam, and that so-called “Dark” Age came to an end.

This too shall pass - and it is the inspiring example of Canada and the slowly re-emerging Europe that is cause for hope in the long term (even our timid Prime Manager has stood up to the USA’s leader), although they still have to learn how to be effective.

And the work of this blog can help - even more so, Dear Reader, if you are able to make some improvements.

Persist.

PS - Overnight, this popped up in my feed:

“Are Americans Just Stupid...”   https://alisav.substack.com/p/are-americans-just-stupid   “Or is it something else?”   This has an important insight (it is authoritarian parenting, not stupidity), and four important solutions (“✅ Call it what it is. Stop saying “economic anxiety.” Say trauma-bonded fascist loyalty. ... ✅ Protect the vulnerable. ... Defend trans kids. ... ✅ Deprogram where you can—but know your limits. ✅ Rebuild culture around empathy, not obedience. ... Make being kind cooler than being right.”)   There’s also some excellent and relevant commentary on problem parenting at Strongwilled (https://strongwilled.substack.com/), and the Knitting Cult Lady has some excellent insights into US cults (https://www.youtube.com/@KnittingCultLady)

Possible flaws

Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:

  • there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan  Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”
  • I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).
