In my twenties, I had a few nose problems that led to me seeing a few GPs (general practitioners - doctors) - I was often moved because of work, so seeing someone for long enough to get treatment for a problem could be a challenge.
At any rate, I saw one doctor who looked into my nasal passages, and them made a crack about being surprised I could breathe.
I honestly thought he was, for some unknown reason, being nasty, and it took some time for him to convince me that I had relatively congested nasal passages - although I remained wary of him.
He then suggested that I let him cauterise the turbinates.
I wasn't inclined to let someone who was, at best, cavalier, and at worst, nasty to try anything of the sort, but I asked a question along the lines of, if something is burned elsewhere it heals to be as before, so why wouldn't that happen when he burned the inside of my nose?
And he couldn't - or chose not to - answer, so I put that aside and have managed the problem as best I can for four decades and a bit since then.
More recently, speaking to my former partner, who is a former Registered Nurse who nursed people who had been subjected to that procedure, I became aware that I had definitely made the right decision - I had, in common parlance, “dodged a bullet”.
Incidentally, there are now better options.
But in terms of dodging bullets, the world hasn’t dodged a bullet when it comes to what is happening in the USA - despite many warnings which are now being shown to have been correct.
This has been well written about by Tennessee Brando, using a long term reflections approach in:
“It's Times Like These ....” https://substack.com/inbox/post/165501694 “Elections Have Consequences” The points covered include his reading history at school during lunch breaks, that the world is not repeating the mistakes of history, and: “... For the first time in my life, I question if there will be another election. I question if we will ever have a shot at democracy again or is this dictator here to stay? The ones who empowered and paved the way for this ... it’s not just people on the right who supported Trump and people in the middle who stayed home on election day that I blame but it’s also the far left who just didn’t think Hillary or Kamala “did enough” on the one issue they “claim” to care about. ... We ain’t headed towards authoritarianism, we are there. ... This is a defining moment in our history. If California falls, we all fall. ... Will we ever be able to go back to “normal times?” No. Those times are long gone and ain’t ever coming back again. ... We have to reach those people who sit elections out or vote on one single issue. We have to get people to see the bigger picture.”
I am glad we have compulsory voting here in Australia.
Possible flaws
Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:
- there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
- I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.
If you appreciated this post, please consider promoting it - there are some links below, and there’s also other options.
Note that I am cutting back on aspects of my posts - see here.

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).#PsychicABetterWorld and may all that I do be of value and actively BPM used for and by the nonphysical BPM because #KindnessIsThePoint
