Post No. 1,764 - Interesting Reading/Viewing and Posts from my Other Blogs

A continuing question and other matters:

Hey @TheElders and @AfricanUnion, given the widespread suffering, are you going to do anything for Uganda this year?   @amnesty

@MarisePayne   @SenatorWong For decency's sake, sanction the genocidaires who committed the coup in Myanmar and stop our military aid. #SaveMyanmar   #SaveBurma

This week I have made the following posts on my other blogs:

Political Musings of Kayleen:

  • my next batch of comments on the news: https://politicalmusingsofkayleen.blogspot.com/2021/02/from-news.html;
  • The pull yourself up by your bootstraps rubbish
    Those IPOCs who prattle on about people lifting themselves by their bootstraps are like people who get in a car that has been provided, serviced and fuelled by others, turn the key to start the engines, then yells out the window at the car-less pedestrians “see, it’s easy, all you have to do is turn the key - why don't you turn the key?”

  • Expelling people on character
    After the High Court stopped an application to cancel a visa, I did some checking of the relevant piece of legislation, which is Section 501 of the Migration Act 1958.
     . . .
    That pretty much says the Minister has the power to expel people who are inflammatory bigots . . .
    I'll have to keep that in mind.
  • A step towards future-proofing work by creation of a Lifelong learning fund
    A review by my home state has released its report, which includes a recommendation to advocate for a Commonwealth-level “lifelong learning fund”.
    This is a fantastic step - we are now closer to achieving what I term “future  proofing work”.

  • A preliminary reaction to the apparent coup in burma
    I had thought that the military in burma would be content with their 51% hold over the pseudo-democracy (through having key Ministerial roles, a minimum percentage of seats, and limiting the role of [racist] Aung Sung Suu Chi) and their big (against the Rohingya) and smaller (against the other minorities swallowed by the extremely aggressive burmese empire before it came across “a bigger fish” and got swallowed itself [by the British empire] ) genocides, but evidently not.
