Post No. 1,768 - Dowsing The World’s Psychic Weather - Earth: Lesson Three - Considerations around Tools

There are a few aspects of working with divinatory tools that are worth considering.

First, there are advantages to using tools: they enable information to be obtained, which is inherently valuable in and of itself, and they give people a chance to begin developing their confidence.

On the other hand, they can become a crutch - one can become stuck on relying on them, when perhaps one should be aiming to develop one’s direct psychic perception.

Actually, I consider the ideal is to develop both - one’s personal psychic abilities should be developed, as they make one less reliant on physical objects (your skills are always with you, although people can experience crises of confidence, interference and errors - but hat also applies to tool), but many tools have a greater range of insight and subtlety than many people’s psychic perceptions, and thus are able to add an improved level of understanding.

So, one has to make a few decisions: when do you change focus, when do you choose to combine methods, how do you know when something has become a crutch, when do you know when paranoia over dependence is stopping you using a beneficial tool, etc.

Thus, decision making is useful. A few of the posts in my Magickal Battle of the World series may be useful (for instance, Insight, Learning, Progress, Proficiency, Evolution, Perspective, Wisdom, Tradition, The outmoded, Discernment, Knowing what changes need to be made now and on a long term basis, Measurement, and this week’s post), and this post from one of my older blogs.

(Since people rarely click over to those, I’ll copy the key bits in below.)

The other cautionary note here is that errors can be made - not because divination is inherently wrong, but because this world is not perfect (no matter that bits of it may be), and thus the possibility of things like telepathic interference, unconscious bias, etc, also need to be considered.

The best discussion of such outlines that I have come across is in Chapter Nine of Stuart Holroyd’s Briefing for the Landing on Planet Earth (pub. Corgi, 1979; ISBN 10: 0552109975, ISBN 13: 9780552109970). The following is an example:

“Again I suggest five possibilities for consideration:

  1. That the information is stored in Phyllis’s unconscious memory and becomes accessible only when she is in trance.
  2. That in trance Phyllis establishes a rapport with the unconscious minds of the sitters and draws the information therefrom.
  3. That she draws the information from the consciousness of a distant person or persons, or by clairvoyance from books, etc.
  4. That she has access to the cosmic reservoir of information and memories that esotericists call the Akashic Records.
  5. That she is indeed “channelling” information that emanates from a non-human intelligence.

I will make a few remarks on each of these possibilities.”

Try to be as objective and informed in your thinking, and you will do well.
