Post No. 1,780 - Problems with the alternative spirituality movement

I've long held concerns with some aspects of New Age and modern western spirituality movements - in particular, toxic positivity, selfishness, judgementalism that hides  problems such as racism, poor teachers, the wilful blindness of refusing to see problems such as poverty etc, and the appalling unethical conduct that results in people allegedly channelling messages that tie in with their own biases (e.g., some of the c**p messages claiming people regret not being stereotypical, or allegedly justifying transphobia [especially those based on a fallacious assumption of people being non-operative])

But there are other problems as well. Those include:

  • child  abuse (which can happen anywhere)
  • abuse of power to commit sexual abuse (e.g., this, ) or harassment; and
  • being recruited to far right terrorism through conspiracy fantasies . . .

That last is a new low.
