Something I have written about - particularly on my no longer actively used political blog (which received a major and sustained increase in views after I stopped posting😂 ) - are the changes that occurred in engineering, with it being a profession of materialistic, greed-driven, misogynistic, LGBTQIASB+ hating bigotry, to something that, while still afflicted with problems, is much better than it was.
And the thought that occurred to me this morning is that, back in the worst of the worst days of that profession, the people who would drag it, kicking and screaming, towards decency were already there, in engineering, gradually moving towards positions where they could have a significant influence - such as the profound change for the better one manager implemented at a company I used to work at (and I have to acknowledge those who subverted systems to ensure workers were treated with decency).
All those people needed was opportunity - and perhaps encouragement.
That is one of the many reasons why cynicism is so harmful - it stops that encouragement those people who are the Seeds of Good Change might be needing to sprout, grow, and bloom fully into active and effective Agents of Change for Good.

That
is one of the many reasons why failing to engage with people who can effect change (especially politicians, but also people like CEOs) is so harmful - it stops that

Agents of Change for Good.
Think about what you are casting about and behind you.
Are people going to be inspired to try to make the world a better place, or are they going to shrivel into a husk of despair?
