Post No. 3,559 - Some (hopefully) interesting reading / viewing / listening - Saturday 31st October, 2026

I recently found the following interestingoand/orouseful, and am posting them here inocase anyoneoelse does asowelll.

This week I came across a video titled “What Kills Us? Data from 1000 AD to 2026”   on the Data is Beautiful channel   https://youtu.be/RKbb-BnbRTI   I’m a little wary of the scope of dataset this is based on - the source is listed, but I haven’t had a chance to check it out. However there are a few points that struck me - but keep in mind this is about relative numbers of deaths: just because something is relatively lower than other causes does NOT mean it is not of concern:   (1) war is generally ~1 - 2% of total deaths, except for World Wars One (highest cause of death, peaking at just over 14% of total deaths) and Two (second highest cause of death, peaking at just over 16% of total deaths). Nothing seems to crop up for the spread of the Mongol empire or some of the internal rebellions/wars of China, which I understand caused massive death tolls (see https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_wars_by_death_toll&oldid=1382851285) - which is what leads me to suspect this is maybe more European focused than global. Murder started at just over 2%, but disappears off the list at around 1700;   (2) the death tolls from Bubonic plague and the 1918 flu were also major - vastly more than any other (just over 40% of all deaths for the former [another reason to suspect this is European focused], and just over 30% for the latter). Improved sanitation and health care since the mid 1700s has, I suspect, been significant in reducing deaths from these causes.  HIV/AIDS appears at 1.4% in the late 1980s, peaking at just under 6% around the year 2000 before falling off the list around 2016 (see https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Epidemiology_of_HIV/AIDS&oldid=1376845492, and note that deaths were largely in Africa, and far exceeded the number of gay men) as dr_g ov_rdose deaths appear at 1% in 2017, COVID appears in 2019 at ~1%, peaking at 8% in 2022 and disappears off the list in 2025, as suicide appears at around 1%;   (3) childbirth death starts at ~8%, and reduces from around 1800 until it disappears off the list of leading causes around the time World War One starts until it returns around 1920 until around 1928,   starvation & famine starts at ~10%, peaks at ~12% after a couple of centuries before gradually decreasing to 2% and then dropping off the list around 1950 (see https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Green_Revolution&oldid=1381183766),   and   car crashes appear on the list at just under 2% in the late 1960s, peaking at over 2% in the 1980s, and reducing to fall off the list in 2019;   (4) heart “disease” has been a leading cause of death since around 1910 (diseases, particularly cholera, measles, and tuberculosis were generally leading causes of death), which reflects, in my opinion, the cut-off-from-nature, subservient-to-capitalism lifestyle that has been slowly growing since the development of large scale agriculture and more so since the abuses of the industrial revolution. The recent surge in relative deaths from dr_g ov_rdose deaths and deaths by self harm further emphasise that, IMO.

  • “People Mocked This Courthouse Wedding. The Wedding Isn’t What Makes a Marriage”   https://youtu.be/aENoxbo2cCQ   Excellent comments - which I agree with - by this channel

On neurodivergenceoand associatedomatters:

  • A critique of a report and the, IMO, blatant LIES being told about it:   “EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW about this UK government review into mental health, ADHD and autism”   Autistic AF   https://youtu.be/4gNrJZKV9Ig   “Everything you ever wanted to know about the Prof. Fonagy review into mental health, ADHD and autism (as well as the media circus around it!).”   The call for a “needs-led PLUS diagnosis” system is EXCELLENT!!!

On society, governance, humanorights, etc (noting the childish thinking of M_G_):

Possible flaws

Where I can, I will try to highlightopossible flaws / issues youoshouldoconsider:

  • there mayobe flawedologicaloarguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan  Myers’ freeoonline course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
  • I could be wrong - so keep your thinkingocaps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.

IMO, OTAAT (“one term at a time”) is the next action to save representative  democracy, along with establishment of an organisation of human-rights observing  democracies as a functional alternative to the UN (especially the veto-sabotaged UN SC), along with all organisations being run using the seven "business" principles listed here, but also note this and this “Vision for Humanity”

Remember: we generallyoneed to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgenderingois an act of activeotransphobia/transmisiaothat puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptoroto prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).
