Post No. 1,962 - book: “Magic for the Resistance: Rituals and Spells for Change”

I have only just come across Michael M. Hughes’ book “Magic for the Resistance: Rituals and Spells for Change”, which provides excellent advice on the actual use of magick for activism, and is a perfect complement to David Salisbury’s “Witchcraft Activism: A Toolkit for Magical Resistance” (Weiser Books, Newburyport, 2019, ISBN 978-1-57683-657-0; Amazon), which I mentioned here.

The book features the spell to bind #45, which Mr Hughes appears to have originated, which I responded to in this post, including a comment from John Beckett, and quotes from Paul K Chappell, and one from Amy  Chua.

My comment in that post, without knowing all the information I now have, was:

In terms of ethical issues, POTUS45 and others of his ilk are actively doing evil - they're causing harm much as a mass shooter does, but they're not as limited as a shooter is. Therefore, active nonphysical action to contain, neutralise and reverse their harm is required.

So I clearly support the concept of taking action on political and other problems. 

I recommend considering buying both books - they're both well worth it, in my opinion, and I found some of Mr Hughes comments quite refreshing. As examples of that: 

On appropriation, which apparently goes back to the ancient Greeks: 

"My ethical rule is simple: if I learn something from a tradition, I do my best to acknowledge and honor it, without claiming to be of it. I encourage you to do the same. Magic is our birthright, so go read and experiment, and when you learn something, give thanks and respect to your teachers."

An acknowledgement of history (including some historical events I didn't know about): 

"According to The Magical Battle of Britain, Fortune removed the order’s rules of secrecy and opened the fraternity to anyone who wanted to join them, teaching formerly hidden techniques to create a “nucleus of trained minds” to resist Nazi Germany. 17 Letters were sent out every Wednesday with instructions for a meditation to be performed at 12:15 each Sunday, and every weekday thereafter. Subjects of these meditations included: • Realization of the function of the Tide of Destruction in clearing the ground • To assert the rule of law, absolute and inescapable • The drawing down of spiritual power into the war effort • The attack on the cloud of astral evil over Germany Fortune’s method of resistance was to channel the will of the British people through powerful rituals, mantras, and meditations, as well as calling upon inner guides, angelic forces, and the spirits of Merlin, King Arthur, St. George, and Saint Michael." 

On the incredible street theatre in 1967 claiming to be about exorcising the Pentagon, including levitating it: 

"They were carrying pamphlets, which got them arrested for littering. When they were brought before a general services administrator, Hoffman requested a permit to levitate the Pentagon three hundred feet. He explained how they planned to chant the exorcism in Aramaic, after which the building would rise, turn orange, and vibrate until all evil energies were dissipated. The war would end. After some discussion, the permit was granted—but only allowing the building to be raised ten feet. Hoffman relented, and the charges against the two were dropped." 

So, as I wrote, I recommend considering buying both books.They include good practical advice, including on issues such as taking care of oneself, as well good guidance / resources on how to do magickal activism.

Post No. 1,960 - Digital Surrender

One of the things that has concerned me greatly in recent years is how so many people cheerfully and stupidly surrender their digital privacy. 

To some extent, this is partly because so many policies are so long and obtuse, although some tech companies are providing reasonable summaries nowadays, but it is also the curse of convenience. 

When people want something online, they don't care what the cost is: they want it NOW, GOD DAMMIT!!! 

That also leads to things like people not reading employment Contracts. When I read the contract for a step daughter in a previous relationship, the company concerned stated quite explicitly that no-one had ever read it before - but they also clarified some concerns. 

Maybe that goes back to my day job. I recall being the first person to read the operations & maintenance manual for a new type of flow meter in central Queensland in the 1980s - and I knew I was the first because I was the first person to say "Hey, this is in German." 

Digital changes in the workplace are of great concern - one worker won a case on this in 2019, but he had to push it to several hearings, and not many people have the resources to do that. (I left my union recently, and their ineptness on the loss of work-life balance as digital tech eroded boundaries was a key factor - as was their weakness on personal searches. And I have better uses for the money.) He had to push it because so many people assume convenient means safe. 

I'll put that point again: 

MANY PEOPLE ASSUME CONVENIENT MEANS SAFE

It has no rational basis whatsoever, but there is some streak in us - possibly in response to the growing pressure of life - puts time saving above all else (and, in the case of things like clothes washers, as someone who spent eight years doing her washing mostly by hand, I have to say there are some valid time savers). Maybe it's FOMO - fear of missing out.

In any case, this sloppiness around digital security also occurs in other areas. This article from 2015 outlines the problems with digital death certificates, and this report outlines the problems of unauthorised access to and disclosure of information by my home state's government. 

Digital signatures are a major weaknesses - I wrote here (in part) of my struggle get adequate reassurance on the safety of digital signatures from my local Post Office. In fact, I'll copy what I wrote: 

As an example of the latter, why do people hand over their e-signatures without a thought in the world as to the consequences? Do they know that companies they're giving their signatures to have safe and secure procedures generally, let alone in how they manage copies of e-signatures?

As an example, I go to Australia Post rather than establish an account with an online money transfer company because my personal details are at considerable risk as:

(a) such companies are typically only as strong as their weakest link - as one social media platform has demonstrated;
(b) many companies are so stupid when it comes to online security they get people to change their passwords every 3 months, or think having back up questions is a good thing;
(c) I have had secretaries tell me - quite pompously, I must say - they would "only" use an e-signature of mine if a manage authorised it (FFS! As a professional engineer, my signature has professional implications - and only gets used with MY permission, no matter how inconvenient that is for managers. I've also had other engineers literally forge my physical signature to comply with a timeline - i.e., for convenience, rather than legality. When I quietly commented over the phone that such would result in me calling the police, they whited out the forgery, and presented it to me the next day. Again, FFS. I have only once had to start taking a company to the Institute Of Engineers Australia [now "trading as" [just change your bloody name] "Engineers Australia" Ethics Committee, but I would again if I needed to - and the bloody registration scheme we have misses all of that); and
(d) only one system I've come across (see here) has ever come close to adequate security over the use of e-signatures.

The pompous and stupid think trust in a company should be automatic: no, it shouldn't - and the stupidity of our neoliberal national government on online security has also shown that.

(I'd trust the companies if someone I knew could be trusted, like Bruce  Schneier, had sufficient access to say that company could be trusted.)

Unfortunately, I also know that Australia Post also fail abysmally on inclusivity matters, from when I have provided a witness signature for a friend and the bastard I was served by was quite transphobic.

My biggest issue was getting the people I was communicating with to get past their FBU and understand the risk. 

Digital signatures are a major risk in the workplace, but at least there I am finding many people actually understand the problem - not all, but many. We even had a senior staff member warn us of the risks after he had been to a workshop, but he was FBU when I pointed our the risk in the workplace around unauthorised use of digital signatures. (I had a perfect example of that, with a death in a hospital that came about because underlings used a doctor's e-signature without permission to approve a dangerous medication, but I can't find the link [I will keep looking]. The idiots that started putting signatures on official letters from organisations have A LOT to answer for.)

Part of the problem is that there are other risks and concerns that are of equal or even greater importance, but the biggest problems are FBU and this idiotic assumption that convenient means safe.

And now our real estate agent is climbing on the digital signature bandwagon. 

And at this point, I am so exhausted trying to fight the FBU reactions to get people to understand the problem, that I am likely to just give up.

I will, however, end with something a little more positive: Bruce Schneier's article "The Eternal Value of Privacy". 

Post No. 1959 - an update on neochristianity

Some time ago I developed the term "neochristianity" for people who get caught up dogma, power structures, fear, etc rather than Christ's actual message. I wrote about that at https://gnwmythrsglossary.blogspot.com/2015/05/neochristianity-christianity.html, including a link to a very interesting analysis by an Anglican priest of the options and choices made by early followers of that religion which showed how easily the neochristian churches could have turned out to be much better. 

I've now found some more on that, which is that Pelagius disagreed with the concept of "original sin" that has been used by the neochristian churches to condemn every human born. Routine Explanation / commentary

There is an introduction / reminder / explanation about these posts here (and also see here for some investigation into evidence of the effectiveness of this type of work, which shows variability [and mentions causes] and cycles in the energetic/consciousness response), and some additional comments at the end of this post. Please also note that I hope this work will be taken up by a network of competent dowsers and BPM psychic warriors (also, this blog was created for spiritual reasons, including a course: this is just part of it).

As you read this, consider this: how does one outflank an idea, or attack an emotion in the rear? It is as well to consider what those who are unbalanced could do to good ideas and emotions, as well as considering BPM ways to outflank or “attack in the rear” bad ideas/emotions. Also consider geopolitics, and this mapping exercise.

Remember, the meditation (see here, here, and here) consists of:

 - appropriate and responsible protection (see here, here, here), prayer and ritual (e.g., here) to establish and check protection (re-do or re-schedule, if you don’t feel safe and secure);

 - establish a personal connection to higher BPM influences;

 - flush one's aura with emerald green, royal blue and royal purple;

 - fill one’s Heart Chakra (and maybe one’s Earth Star, Solar Plexus, Third Eye and Crown Chakras) with emerald green, royal blue and royal purple; send a weave of three streams of this colour from the Chakra(s) to a visualisation of a gigantic, multi-faceted emerald (which has been created to facilitate networking of BPM workers) through your facet until you see your energy enlivening other areas of the emerald and can feel similar energies flowing back to you;

 - visualise the rune / bindrune (if given - or, on Sunday, the group of symbols provided);

 - generate  feelings of love, peace, joy and respect;

 - strengthen those feelings (energies);

 - radiate those energies to the world for nine to eighteen minutes;

 - on Sunday, also perform the additional meditation work and exercise(s) as set out in the posts for that work;

 - close your chakras, centre yourself and close your aura, use the banishing version of the LBRP to close circle, ground and release all excess energy; and make sure you are grounded and closed down – eat, if you need to, or seek help from someone capable and trusted. As a final point, note that your BPM family of choice (i.e., friends - especially those outside this area of your life) and BPM family will help keep your life grounded - but they must be BPM: as the Wiccan  Rede says “With a fool no season spend, nor be counted as their friend”. Similarly, you should focus on all that you love in life outside this work at the end of a session - and, if you have nothing else, you must broaden your life for the sake of being balanced and thus capable (and seek expert help, if necessary); and
 - make sure you are yourself again - free of any lingering attachments or (misguided) ideas of being subservient, respectful of yourself and your integrity as you should be of others.

Important note: although I show the flow of energy using arrows, they are really - to continue the weather chart analogy - more like the passage of a frontal system as shown on a synoptic (“weather”) chart. Also, if I ever miss doing a Psychic Weather Report, I have posted a standard, fall-back, default version here, which I will update from time to time when needed.

It is also worth contemplating that one of the greatest weaknesses of those who oppose Balanced Positivity is the inherent pain, suffering and negativity of their aims and means – from the personal slights, insults and traumas left by the petty tyrant or autocrat, dictator or monarch or those oligarchs who are ruthless (some at least are not; some are BPM), through the social dislocation of the economic ideologue, to the long-lasting trauma, injury, death and desolation of society caused by those who use violence or war as a means to achieve power or impose their will. It may take time, but people WILL eventually realise what is not good, and will take action – which is why slavery is no longer ubiquitous, and why the march to freedom and democracy is underway – tentatively, and with backsliding and mistakes along the way, but inexorable nevertheless.
