Post No. 3,377 - neochristianity vs. Christianity: a clarification

I have collated a fair bit of what I have written about neochristianity vs. Christianity at https://gnwmythrsglossary.blogspot.com/2015/05/neochristianity-christianity.html, but I have realised there is an additional point I wish to add, one which applies to other faiths as well.

First, a key part from the above definition is:

“I’m going to begin this by explaining that I make a strict division between:

neochristianity, in which group are those who have become rigid and unforgiving and covered with facades and all those who are greedy for power or materialistic influence, or abuse children, or in any way set limits or qualifications on Love,

and

Christianity, in which group I classify people who follow Christ's two simple laws, about loving one's neighbour and loving Deity. (The late Archbishop Desmond Tutu is an example of a genuine Christian, IMO)”

There is another way of viewing this, I have realised:

  • neochristians put their energy into either
    • performative (pretend) demonstrations of “love” of their Deity;
      or
    • genuine “love” of their Deity, but without any (or without any genuine) observation of the other part of the key commandment, which is genuine spiritual love (agape) of people;
  • those who are genuine in their faith, whether that be Christianity or some other faith, put their energy where their Deity puts it - so:
    • people, in the case of genuine Christians as their Deity loves the world/people so much he sent his Son;
    • the natural world, and people - who are a part of the natural world - in the case of Pagans.

So ... if you’re wondering to determine how genuine someone is in their faith, consider:

how closely does what they put their energy/“love” into match where their Deity/Deities put their energy/love?

Just a thought ...

Possible flaws

Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:

  • there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan  Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
  • I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).

Post No. 2,851 - Letting go

One of the MANY failings of a patriarchal society is that it is inherently possessive ... and that shows in amathiac things like rubbish ideology about perfect mates/opposite halves / being in love and/or together for forever and so on, whereas even a modicum of thought shows how ludicrous that is even in terms of millions of years, let alone billions.

Friendships, relationships, roles in life, etc are all basically for a reason, a season, or - in some cases - a lifetime, but most will end. If nothing else, eventually people start to grow on slightly diverging paths or at differing rates of travel, and there comes a time when a relationship should naturally and amicably end - or at least transform.

Our legal systems, warped by both patriarchy and neochristianity, are built around possession - as well as a presumption of being monogamously heteronormatively coupled, and victim blaming of those on social security, and that all tends to enforce continuation of that by viewing anything else as taboo - a breach of societal norms.

That both blocks growth, and creates nonBPM states of being - resentment, frustration, etc.

For the sake of those involved, and also the wellbeing (including innovation/creativity, which often needs the absence of fear of survival, and productivity, which is best when stress etc is absent) of society, we need to change that so that relationships - including friendships as much as intimate relationships - and roles can be ended without ill-will, judgement, or vitriol.

Post No. 2,289 - On Gary Lachman's “The Caretakers of the Cosmos” vs. Indigenous / Pagan Views

I’ve mentioned a couple of times that I’m reading Gary  Lachman’s “The Caretakers of the Cosmos” (Pub. Floris Books, 2013, ISBN 978-178250-022-3; Amazon), and I have now worked out why I am uncomfortable with it:

  • it takes the Abrahamic view of creation; and
  • it assumes that creation is broken and needs fixing.

I am far more comfortable with the Pagan and/or Indigenous view that it is the balance of creation needs to be cared for, not an inherent flaw or sin that is the problem - and I also favour the view that physical reality was manifested from higher levels of reality, not an external and either indifferent/angry/psychologically disturbed deity, and done so for the purpose of spiritual evolution / improving consciousness.

This is why I also get the irrits with neochristian, tendentious and pompous vibe of things like the latest  Dreamland episode - which is professional, engaging and thoughtful, but approaches the topic with an unconscious neochristian bias.

Perhaps oddly, it was reading the article “We Are Here” (subscriber access here - I bought the hard copy) on Native Sovereignty in the July, 2022 edition of “National  Geographic” that crystallised that thought for me.
