Post No. 3,003 - Reflections on the past week, and some interesting reading/viewing [Note: Content Warning - links to reports on/discussion of oppression/bigotry/hate, violence/abuse/war. Reader discretion is advised]

Note: CONTENT WARNING - some of this content is about upsetting, disturbing or triggering events & attitudes. Seek competent help - including professional - if you need it. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are advised that linked articles may contains names and/or images of deceased people. READER CAUTION IS RECOMMENDED! For anyone distressed by anything in this post, or for any other reason considering seeking support, resources are available in Australia here, here, and here. In other nations, you will have to do an Internet search using terms such as mental health support - <your nation>(which, for instance, may lead to this, this, and this, in the USA, or this, this, and this, in France [biased towards English-language - my apologies]), or perhaps try https://www.befrienders.org/

The purposes of this post are:

(1) to provide information, including news, which may be of interest, value, or use to Readers;

(2) to identify both BPM and nonBPM opportunities to do the work of this blog (particularly clearing nonBPM nonphysical  units,   BPM  healing,   and   BPM  strengthening of BPM units);   and

(3) to help engage and frame my emotional, mental, and other nonphysical (psychic, spiritual, Higher Self, BPM  Guides, etc) aspects both for doing my weekly PWR and for doing the work that flows from the PWR - which may also occur for some others.

Some of the news information will likely be distressing - hence the content warning, to allow people to choose times they have high energy and/or are in a good state to view these, or to ensure they have access to support resources if they may be triggered, or to choose to either temporarily or permanently skip viewing this post or the News and/or “On the resistance to the reign of Tr_ mp 2.Ø” sections, as is best for their health and wellbeing.

Within the news section, I generally try to identify what is considered “good” news in green, possibly also with green background, but owing to time, energy, and health limitations, may not always be able to do so.

URLs of sources of news and/or information are included as in-text hyperlinks.

News:

On the existential climate crisis this week,      a University of Sydney study has found that shifting responsibility to consumers minimises the role of energy industry and policymakers, which is an unfair burden on individuals;      extreme weather is not being responded to by politicians;      and    billionaire Bloomberg’s foundation would fund 22% of the $96.5 million budget previously provided by the US for 2024-2025 for UN climate change agency after Tr_ mp withdrew the USA from the Paris Agreement ($85 million is surely not too much for the rest of the world - especially wealthy nations ... ).

In the global war against the radical right this week,      a critique states that the postwar order too often put order before liberalism, did little for peace (it was “based upon realities of power”), and fuelled the rise of populism, as it was "... established primarily to entrench US power on its side of the cold war” - the concept of liberalism was added in the 1970s and 80s, “amid the trauma of American defeat in Vietnam”, but the subsequent collapse of the Soviet Union, post-9/11 era and its horrendous abuses (“most western leaders accepted that any defence of the liberal order required the use of the most illiberal of tools, from torture and rendition to assassinations and invasions”), the financial collapse of 2008, and the rise of global Chinese influence have had significant impacts.       Fortunately, especially given Angry (over being forced to be responsible and held accountable on matters such as hate speech) Big Tech’s dangerous plan for Europe (which includes risks of weaponised data/political meddling), “Europe’s ‘holiday from history is now over’” and a European-members of is being assembled to protect undersea cables in Baltic Sea after a series of suspected sabotage incidents on critical infrastructure.      However, there are concerns that the collapse of Austria’s firewall against the far right could be replicated in Germany.      And in Australia, a university has tried to claim a n__-n_ z_ salute wasn’t ...

In the USA this week, we have      the coronation of cismale (pronouns not specified) King Tr_ mp  2.Ø and that person’s theocratic, oligarchical, monarchical reign in the US, which I posted about here ...      That person’s reposting of a parody account post of one of their nominees shows their vulnerability to misinformation they like, and their desire to criminalise opposition;      the questioning of White House position applicants about only the 2020 election and the subsequent insurrection shows that blind, unquestioning loyalty is expected by that monarch.      Subsequently, one of the two “tech bros” in charge of the so-called “DOGE” had a tiff with his bro and quit.      and a “survey of more than 2,000 millionaires across G20 countries published by the Patriotic Millionaires group has found more than half believe extreme wealth concentration is a threat to democracy. About 70% agreed that the influence of those with extreme wealth is leading to a decline in trust of the media, the justice system and democracy.

There are also      developments regarding a social media platform that include the US Supreme Court upholding the ban on that platform, with an analysis of that by the LegalEagle YouTube channel here, and Tr_ mp reversing their position favouring a ban (which started this sequence) and claiming they will take action (now done) to allow it to continue - with excellent analysis of the social platforms corporate messaging here.

There are also concerns being expressed about Tr_ mp’s mental state, notably after he reposted a series of unhinged and self-promoting memes, but see also   here,   here,   here,   here,   here,   and   here.

The fires in Southern California have seen       fears of gentrification,      revelations about a “new” hierarchy of who gets help,      questions about the (if any?) long term plan (including for jobs),   one fire resistant house survived,      a new bushfire north of the worst affected city,      hopes of relief from some rain,      and   the return of some residents.

This week the Israel-Palestine war has seen      Israel reserving a claimed “right” to resume war   as recommendations are made to keep the fragile peace alive and a call is made for “both sides to think again”.      Also, France has also urged an 'acceleration' of implementation of the Israel-H_______h truce as Israel admits it won’t meet the timeline for withdrawing its troops.

In Gaza, Palestinians are torn between grieving, rejoicing or crying, with fears the ceasefire will break down and war will resume as the search for those missing in the rubble that was Gaza begins.      Israel has raided the homes of Palestinian prisoners’ families to “prevent ‘public displays of joy’” (which were ultimately unsuccessful)   as   reports emerge that Palestinian women and children prisoners were subjected to torture and  starvation for often arbitrary arrests.

Prisoner releases so far include three Israeli  women (I am concerned that they may have been subjected to sexual assaults),   almost 100 Palestinian prisoners,   and   and more women Israeli prisoners will be released - despite Israeli  attacks with “unlawful violent force” in the West Bank, which includes action against at least one hospital.

Aid is finally getting in at scale, but more is needed

In Australia,       the special envoy advises that Islamophobia has become endemic, normalised, and unreported in Australia;      almost 1,000 Palestinian and Israeli nationals have been offered temporary humanitarian visas since last October on a new humanitarian pathway, which allows working rights and social benefits but excludes permanent protection,  introduced in October 2024 for the more than 1,300 Palestinians in Australia on visitor visas.       Of very great concern, a non-religious child care centre has been vandalised with antisemitic graffiti and set on fire, leading to the National Cabinet being convened for an AFP briefing which led to a plan to track antisemitism, in addition to the prior commitments by others to find and punish those responsible, and AFP investigations are underway that include the possibility that foreign actors MAY have paid local criminals (possibly in cryptocurrency) to carry out the attacks (see also here; a ninth arrest has been made with regard to one of those incidents, with more arrests imminent; and a second arrest in relation to another of those incidents).      Meanwhile, the pro-Palestinian movement is now reportedly changing its focus to urging Australia to put pressure on Israel as was done with South Africa during its apartheid era - which, because of the violent public antisemitic attacks such as the one mentioned above, I consider will never happen - even though it would be consistent with the ICJ orders.

On this aspect of life this week, also read   “On the “Victims of the Victims””   https://jewishcurrents.org/on-the-victims-of-the-victims   “Revisiting Edward Said’s ethical humanism in the context of the Gaza genocide”      and   “What Happened to the Black-Jewish Political Alliance?”   https://jewishcurrents.org/what-happened-to-the-black-jewish-alliance   “Challenging the sanitised history of blacks and Jews during the Civil Rights era”

In other international news,      an excellent analysis reminds us that, as with the Korean War (where ceasefire talks took years, and a peace treaty is still NOT in place decades later), “Peace talks will take a long time”, and that, with regard to Ukraine, despite pressures to negotiate the military conditions for a deal are not present (basically, both sides think they are winning), but it is vital that military assistance to Ukraine continues unabated - and a peace treaty would likely require 200,000 European (“allied”) troops. Despite that, King Tr_ mp has decided to try threatening (bullying)  Russia into ending its war in Ukraine - as well as accusing oil producers of prolonging that war;      and    there has been a resurgence of left wing guerilla violence in Colombia, which had been making very promising steps towards peace after more than half a century of conflict.

In human rights news,      the fighting in Sudan has more ethically motivated violence (increasing the risks of repeat genocides),      “the ICC chief prosecutor has requested arrest warrants for two senior Taliban leaders in Afghanistan over the “unprecedented, unconscionable and ongoing” persecution of women — a crime against humanity” - see also here,      Russia has sentenced lawyers for the former opposition leader Navalny to jail for relaying his messages;       a The Guardian exclusive reports that Australia’s anti-modern slavery laws (and some corporations) are being criticised as it is revealed that thousands of imports have been made from companies banned by the USA for modern slavery;   more analysis on the social media surrender to christo-fascism with particularly notable illustration of the bigotted version of words used;      after conversations including with members of the coloniser’s own family and ““did not shy away from the divisive nature” of some of his work”, rather than changing being named after a racist, a University in my home state has agreed  with First Peoples leaders to a Tanderrum (“a Kulin nation term meaning “safe passage” or “agreement””), which requires the parties “jointly commit to truth telling and elevating the understanding and acknowledgement of the full history of our country” and sets out to ““define a path” for the university and future truth-telling”;      the Aboriginal-led Beautiful Shawl Project has seen a record increase in cancer screening;      in what could be a beneficial reaction to Tr_ mp's deranged rantings, Denmark has finally scrapped racist parenting competency checks;   in a timely and encouraging reminder that trans and sexuality rights still exist outside the USA, a tribunal has ruled that a Victorian lesbian group cannot exclude transgender and bisexual women from events - and police have withdrawn from an LGBTQIASB+ community event;      however, regarding the USA, the Lemkin Institute has issued a red flag genocide alert in response to the deliberate  repeated use of a fascist gesture by a billionaire who is actively globally supporting n__-N_z_s - and a pseudo-news media organisation has sacked a presenter for describing the gesture accurately, as the ADL denies what the gesture was! (see also this satire by an autism group);      Bangladesh has refused to accept any more Rohingya refugees - despite Myanmar/Burma continuing to attack civilians;      Questions grow over UNHCR inaction as Uyghurs in Thailand face deportation threat -  “Nothing prevents UNHCR from declaring these people refugees”;      and   Iraq will allow child marriages.

In societal and governance matters,      the UK has been using sci-fi writers to envision and thus enable preparations for possible dystopian futures (such as thousands of people being simultaneously stuck inside self driving cars);       Services Australia is “chasing billions of dollars in decades-old debt, it has been revealed, some of which may have been incorrectly calculated ... again - does the APS never learn? And why are they still using a fortnightly payment system when NO-ONE else has for decades?   and   Australia’s controversial mutual obligations framework for those on unemployment benefits is on pause after multiple systems failures caused cancellations possibly “in error” and reviews are conducted into the legality of those systems;       cross benchers are urging the Federal ALP government to act against deepfakes and misinformation before the next election;      and a warning to Australia’s federal opposition leader that he will be held accountable on good governance.

From a spiritual perspective,      the nonBPM have given full vent to their hate in the USA - and run immediately into countless obvious, expected problems. However, these actions still need to be resisted by activism, the work of this blog, or a combination of those - and perhaps also of other non-violent options, and the release of violent, vengeful insurrectionists is a major problem.   This flood of hate could influence events elsewhere - from the fragile ceasefire in Gaza through the ongoing, active apartheid in the West Bank and savage anti-human rights actions in Iraq and elsewhere to even live discussions I have seen online amongst small groups.

The response to this that I have read often talks about the importance of maintaining hope, but even if you can’t feel hope, commit to doing BPM work out of the principle of always seeking to be BPM - which is an approach I have taken at times in my life, which is a refusal to allow myself to be dragged down to others (nonBPM) level.

On the resistance to the reign of Tr_ mp 2.Ø the global war against the radical right:

  • “TikTok Ban: Germany v. USA”   https://youtu.be/HEDcvwh0G1Y   Excellent discussion of real motivations, and what should be done (overarching legislation) if data privacy is actually the concern
  • Presidents ‘are not kings’: Trump faces legal headwinds to birthright citizenship order”   https://www.france24.com/en/americas/20250123-trump-faces-legal-headwinds-challenge-birthright-citizenship-immigration   “Pushback against President Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration orders gathered steam Thursday with a court hearing the first of a set of lawsuits filed by a coalition of at least 22 US states to block his bid to end birthright citizenship. Many legal experts see the crackdown on immigrants as unconstitutional and predict a potentially protracted legal dispute”

Here are some llinks that might also be of interest or value:

  • Here are a few videos on political matters:
    • “Politicians claim countries must be run like households, and that’s completely wrong”   https://youtu.be/3FZmhyKkFdU   This is quite interesting, and consistent with other materials I have read or viewed over the last couple of decades on this. However, the household perception is insidious and endemic, and thus an unfortunately potent political trope, and also, when nations agree that their (perceived) reality is that a nation is, for want of a better term, bankrupt, or that nation has mismanaged its governance to the extent that it is genuinely in trouble (e.g., cannot manage external debt commitments), devastating real world consequences will ensue - see, for instance,   “Sovereign default”   https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sovereign_default&oldid=1259076105   ,   “What Happens When a Country Declares Bankruptcy?”   https://bizfluent.com/about-7512012-happens-country-declares-bankruptcy.html   “...   When a country can no longer pay the interest on its debt or convince anyone to lend it money, it has reached bankruptcy. Possible causes of a country’s bankruptcy can include war or financial mismanagement by the government”   ,   “What Happens When a Country Goes Broke”   https://www.opensocietyfoundations.org/explainers/what-happens-when-a-country-goes-broke   “A combination of multiple shocks—chief among them the COVID-19 pandemic and increased interest rates—has left over 50 lower- and middle-income countries in “debt distress,” according to the UN: struggling to repay money borrowed to fund vital projects, or to import food and other essentials. If debt repayments become impossible, a government typically has to “declare default,” letting its creditors know that further repayments under the original terms are no longer possible. Debt defaults cause substantial and long-lasting economic damage—damage that continues until a country’s finances are straightened out. But currently, the global system for doing that also needs fixing”   ,   “6 major countries that went bankrupt in recent times”   https://www.tbsnews.net/world/6-major-countries-went-bankrupt-recent-times-453426   “A state bankruptcy means the government fails to make debt and interest payments when due”

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).
