In reading the press reports from and about the USA this week, two thoughts struck me:
- firstly, that the blame for much, if not all, of this can be laid at the feet of the US supreme court, who have the US president king-like powers of untouchability;
- secondly, that the blame for the US supreme court being able to do that can be laid at the feet of EVERY US president/member of their congress who prevaricated on or argued against increasing the size of the US supreme court - especially those ARGUING SO TO SAVE MONEY.
How’s ya money lookin’ now, IPOCs???!!!! (especially Mitch McConnell - I would ask what they think about the state of their nation, but I doubt they actually care)
This sort of allowance of the continuation of flawed situations occurs elsewhere as well, and is basically about situations that people can use to get or maintain power (this, IMO, is the key reason behind the USA’s persistence in allowing murderously irresponsible gun laws) - which is egregiously unethical, to the point of being, IMO, evil.
There is also another situation that is a problem, and that is:
weighing evils.
Because of what the n_ z_s did in Germany in the 1930s and 40s, and others did elsewhere for racist and religious bigotry reasons through many eras of history (including current history), interfering with parenting is quite rightly viewed with concern.
Fortunately, there ARE some laws against child neglect and/or abuse.
However, IMO, teaching a child to hate is also a form of abuse (and thus IS evil), but is being missed because of the other evil I mentioned.
What is the solution?
Teach adults to become aware of their flaws and how to change them - and do so energetically, not diffidently, as has been done until now. Remember that this is about preventing evils such as are currently occurring in the USA!!! It is NOT about minor differences of political opinion.
Teach children - especially teenagers - critical thinking, and STOP ABDICATING RESPONSIBILITY FOR FORMING PROGRESSIVE CHARACTERS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS!!!
Again, this is NOT about minor differences of opinion - it is about survival of the species, and EVERY CLIMATE CHANGE DOUBTER/DENIAL IS A FAILURE OF PUBLIC EDUCATION.
Start accepting responsibility, understanding power/influence (both use and failure to use), and looking to the broader picture and the future.
