My review of a book which is woeful – in part because of extreme heteronormativity, and a few links on things like maggie thatcher (she doesn’t deserve capitals), the causes of the Second World War, sunspots, Pagans in Russia,

Some thoughts on Mabon from a work trip, edits to my quotations section (particularly “the means shape the end”), and a speculation of the motivations of nations involved in the dispute over the Senkakus / Diaoyu Islands - which is made with a view to understanding how to change those nations towards peace, and a few reading links including, surprisingly, one good thing said by ‘God’s Rottweiler”.

From a busy time of life, in the middle of a heatwave, some newly found (by me!) blogs (Teo Bishop and T. Thorne Coyle), and thoughts in response to those, as a result of reading Marion Zimmer Bradley's "Heartlight" in response to the departure of “God’s Rottweiler” (in particular, strong religious leadership is not necessarily good simply because it is strong) and an attempt to get a positive perspective from recent perspectives on vampires.

Is the world a better place for you having been here? How?

Links to an organisation that seems similar to what I want to do with the Rangers of the Inner Plane, and a bunch of other links including how plagiarism harms our community, forests (trees are one of my favourite lifeforms … along with cats, whales and a lot of birds), and a few things of concern to me in our society (although at least one link is about an improvement).

A bit of history predating the modern Pagan movement and the New Age, getting into what are often termed ‘mystery schools’ and ‘orders’ of the ‘Western mystical tradition’ - groups such as the Rosicrucians. After reviewing their strengths and weaknesses, I suggest there may be a need for ‘low magic orders’ as a contrast to the "High Magic" / Ceremonialist groups of the past.

Carren Smith’s brilliant book, as good as Ingrid Poulson's book "Rise", and the resilience approach she developed out of her tragic experiences. (The book includes an elegant resolution of one of the problems I have with forgiveness as it is preached in the New Age movement.) On the other hand, I found many flaws with Eckhart Tolle's book "A New Earth". And some thoughts on dreams vs. responsibilities, and a bunch of reading links.

The need to flexible when advocating for something that works for oneself - for instance, the alternate nostril breathing I use is anathema to some people. Also, from that discussion, should one aim to achieve mastery of a wide range of psychic skills, or focus on the few that are of interest?

My discovery of Alaric Albertsson’s books, a prayer from the real life organisation that the film  "Men Who Stare at Goats" is very loosely ‘based’ on, Saxon calendars, celebrating or marking maturity, a public event in response to the so-called ‘Mayan prophecy’ hysteria and stupidity, a few thoughts from reading Jim Butcher's "Cold Days", and some short thoughts on NOT teaching kids to "treat others as you would like to be treated", domestic violence, what spiritual growth is NOT, my views on the timing of Solstices and a comment on current affairs (i.e., news).

The importance of practice (including of spirituality), using chakras as a way of assessing character and state or stage of spiritual development, the constraining influence of fear (particularly when unacknowledged or unknown), simplifying lifestyles, when we get a lift from someone or something we may also be exerting a drag down on them, are conspiracy theorists actually tuning in to astral events (they’re not, in my view, very often tuned into physical events!) and lighting candles online.
