I am by no means the first person to note this, but if the existing US Democratic party continues to fail to support and even reject new people like Mamdani, they won’t exist for much longer. That will become even more certain if they fail to vocally and actively support accountability for all those committing these egregious breaches of laws, human rights, and human decency.
We’re watching (here in Australia) the demise of the conservative party (particularly over the climate crisis), which could be a problem if their voters go to the even more extreme right wing parties, but there strong progressive alternatives.
In the USA, if the Democrats don’t wake up, there will only be the haters supporting the party of hate, and a possibly scattered and disunited bunch of minority parties and independents.
The US Democratic Party Old Guards MUST resign or get out of the way of the new, active, and understanding the current situation and its urgency younger members.
