One of the greatest mechanisms of evil to be foisted on the world in the last half century or so is neoliberalism - a philosophy of cruelty embodying the problem of knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing and used to fix racism and every other form of heart atrophying bigotry, cult-like workplaces, suspicion of one’s neighbour, me-first-last-and-everywhere-in-between, the most self-centred, self-serving and selfish forms of egregious materialism (including climate crisis denialism), and spiteful suspicion into the Australian and many other national psyches.
The world had been heading towards an egalitarian, caring, sharing, and responsible world where life was safe, healthy, thriving or at least enjoyable - and then that got turned on its head.
Thomas Pikkety wrote well about the change, Robert Reich and US Senator Bernie Sanders continued their warnings against inequality and politico-economic hypocrisy, and others did what they could, but ... the minds of too many were enraptured by a too simplistic, Newtonian worldview that denied and sacrificed the human soul and heart to mechanistic spreadsheets, calculators, and physical number counting.
In Australia, the agents of damage and evil were largely conservative politicians in the grossly misnamed Liberal Party, but also the right wing of the supposed to be progressive ALP won the internal numbers game, with the left wing failing badly - as outlined in the linked video in the postscript to this post of mine.
As that post outlined, however, a growing number of people are beginning to understand how easily and thoroughly they were duped - scammed! - by the lies and distortions of those lost decades of hate and harm.
And that includes the jobs and economic numbers obsessed right wing of the ALP, with socially progressive policies being back in favour - too much so, in the case of the 2019 election, where things like lies about superannuation were able to win the still self-centred, me-first-and-everyone-else-last focused electorate over, but the next election saw some inspiration of a better society - including the subsequently sadly mishandled Voice referendum, but overall, a move towards a healthier, better, and, if not more inclusive at least slightly less exclusionary, Australian society.
And then the ultra-elite oligarchs etc behind neoliberalism relaunched a better prepared version of their orange faced weapon of choice, who committed the biggest scam of a population since Germany in the 1930s.
However, as I wrote, the scammed active and passive (did not vote counts as supporting TACO) supporters are starting to realise how thoroughly they were duped - with some powerful protests.
And in Australia, that grotesquerie of debauchery, grift, and social destruction in the USA, with hints of that being echoed here by the so-called Liberal and the National parties, was enough for a resounding re-election of the ALP.
Unfortunately, that came with a warning from the architect of its success to avoid what he termed “overreach”, which gutted and directly contradicted, in my opinion, the Australian community’s clearly expressed desire for a better society.
Nevertheless, despite that, the left wing Prime Minister and leader of the ALP has been able to gain sufficient support for a progressive measure to get a preliminary investigation into underway, and that idea is of a universal child care system, similar to our Medicare system and, it would seem from The Guardian’s exclusive report on this, something Canada uses.
I don’t have children, but my (former and ex-) partners, friends, family members, and work colleagues have, and I KNOW just how ground shaking this change could be - if it is done right.
I lived through before and after MediBank/Medicare, and saw the difference that made.
I have worked overseas, and seen the difference social security makes by seeing the massive harm caused when it is lacking - and our version of social security is disturbingly incapacitated by the small-minded, suspicious, quick to hate hearts and minds of too many Australians, but, though it needs to be improved, it is better than the option of having nothing - which the neoliberals are trying to back door us into.
Universal child care, as it is being termed, would be a direct blow to the greed, hate, and fear that is trying to destroy Australian society (also, adding dental care to Medicare would be similarly ground shaking). For that reason, I will support it in whatever way I can - through the work of this blog, for sure, but also by emails of approval, as I have just sent to my local federal MP. Remember what I wrote about choosing better politicians.
From a spiritual point of view, we also should remember that having our eyes open, to avoid being scammed or duped, cannot happen unless we first have an open heart.
As I wrote here:
You can not
shine from your mind,
unless you first
shine from your heart.
If you ignore that, you risk making mistakes you may well rue later ...
Also from today: the clearly expressed intent of ALP members and Australians ...
has now been respected by the announcement to recognise Palestine (with no pre-conditions, but based on commitments already made by the Palestinian Authority).
See Prime Minister's announcement, Foreign Minister's announcement, The Conversation report, SBS report, AP News video and report, France24 report and analysis, including historical - which is partly relevant to the AICocultistotendingo(myoopinion) neoliberals threat to reverse recognition ifotheyocanoeverowin governmentoagain, ABC report, and The Guardian report; and

Possible flaws
Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:
- there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
- I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).
