The pathology of political opposition - which also raises something I have long thought desirable: serve one term, then do not stand for re-election at the end of your term ... re-engage with life, and actively demonstrate that you are unlikely to be twisting your decisions around re-election (re-election being something which makes ALL elected representatives populist to an extent);       

and also, on a personal note: 

This week something struck home for me, and that is the impenetrability of theogroupoinsideotheopolitical party I am a member of   that I need to change   in order to change the party: the electoral experts who useoCambridgeoAnalyticaotypeoexamination of data to determine, control and direct political messaging - including interpretation of policies as adopted by members. 

I joined that party as they have - or had - a reasonable starting position, and I knew - from existing members and their record - that they were capable of good things. I achieved, in fact, a reasonable impact, for a single person in a large organisation (including time with MPs who genuinely listened to what I had to say), but a press release this week has shown the extent to which community fear, right wing media that distort and exacerbate that fear, and the professionalism & expertise of the electoral experts inside the party are combining to offset some outstanding steps forward in my adopted home state with someolowestocommonodenominatoroapproachesotooperceivedopublicosafety.  

Some time ago I had suggested what I consider a better approach (see here and here), but that got nowhere - partly because I am a little known nobody inside the party organisation, partly because my suggestion would have involved a political gamble and required a significant amount of work to convince voters, and likely partly because others thought their solutions were better anyway (as is their right).  

Be that as it may, on top of a recent betrayal, and the betrayal in the USA by the "Democrats", the press release shows that the change from the previous leader is complete, and I am feeling less hopeful. 

I fear this party is only a few electoral cycles behind the neolibs/aka "conservatives" - or maybe, given their new place in political infamy, the US Democrats.  

I will likely remain a member (the internal questionnaires show awareness of the possible causes for dissatisfaction of members), and will do what I can to make the party better, but some activities - such as the email responses to press releases - will go by the wayside.  

That may also result in a cut back in the amount of detail in these weekly posts - which is something I should do anyway, as I need to focus on finding a day job and/or promoting my (different area to this) business.
