On the existential climate crisis & nuclear threats and environmental issues this week:
One of Australia's neolib conservative parties has shown it wants to be grudging followers when it comes to humanity's survival; “world's largest cargo sailboat makes first transatlantic crossing | REUTERS”; the USA will not contribute to COP30 ... and NEITHER WILL OUR PM - DESPITE CLAIMING TO WANT US TO HOST THE NEXT COP!!! ... and Brazil’s "contradictions" are on display ... and armed groups control areas that need to be considered; a call for effective nature laws in Australia; reportedly the resumed nuclear testing ordered by the USA's leader will not include nuclear explosions ... ; the European Greek and Roman Empires of two millennia or more ago had an awareness of climate change and the impacts on the environment on (micro)climate; “fear [of inadequate voter resolve], not public will, is slowing the green transition”; how the plastics industry duped the world over responsibility ... ; an opinion that “net zero is an insidious loophole that distracts from the scientific imperative to eliminate fossil fuels” - while I agree we have to eliminate fossil fuels, I consider net zero an essential step along the way to get humanity to that realisation; gas exports from WA are NOT helping Asia and are leaving Australia short;
In the global struggle against f_sc_sm (and “producerism” and sociocide) - whichoisofought wherever we are (note the advice/examples/guidance on resistance here, here, here, here, here, here, here, this [on the efficacy of nonviolent protest], this book, this book, this, and these) this week:

The monarchy’s claim to natural privilege has always been the cultural face of economic inequality and the idea that wealth, status, and deference are deserved. Now, that illusion is gone. What happens when the royal mystique collapses? What does that mean for justice, equality, and a new politics of care? And watch to the end for a discussion of philosopher John Rawls’ “difference principle” — and why true justice begins when we stop pretending anyone is born superior”; increasingly, companies are being owned by other companies and thus operated for short term numeric profit at any cost; “Larissa Behrendt's Boyer Lecture argues justice and imagination are an investment in democracy”; “The introvert’s guide to fighting for democracy Six ways to protect democracy — without attending a protest”; expansion of Australia's intelligence/police/department oversight powers; the continuing problem of "crippling" male stereotypes;
- “The John Brown Problem: Why Do Historians Fear Taking Sides?” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRSn3_7uy08 “Calling it objectivity doesn't make it neutral. It makes it unexamined”
- AI summary: “Historian Tad Stoermer challenges the notion of "objective distance" in historical analysis, particularly regarding violence and resistance. Using John Brown and the Civil War as examples, the video explores how claiming moral neutrality distorts historical understanding. Stoermer argues that centering the perspectives of those who challenged power creates more rigorous history.”
A financial crash "almost as bad as 2008" is "almost inevitable"; a call to avoid using police in emergency situations; “the ‘doorman fallacy’: why careless adoption of AI backfires so easily” (“... the concept of the humble hotel doorman to illustrate how businesses can misjudge the value a person brings to the role”); the UK government allowed big business to act from within the government in a troubling example of undue influence/possible state capture; dangerous mislabelling of Scottish independence desires by the UK government; Australia's ALP government has been (angrily) accused of burying a report on jobs-for-mates; “one in three Australian households went whole days without eating or compromised on meal choices in the last 12 months”; Australia's far right party is showing its similarities to theoUSA'soM_oG_o/orepublicanoparty as Australia's government undermines the presumption of innocence by allowing suspension of welfare before any conviction of wrongdoing; an analysis that the "real" reason behind removing a now former prince from UK royalty was to protect the royalty; also in the UK, “police ‘forced to disclose ethnicity of suspects to counter far-right speculation’” - see also this assessment; the problem of inbuilt bias in AI appears to have been shown by a gay Arab being falsely flagged as a t_r r_r_st;
Items of concern/note (and associated resistance/actions) in/regarding the USA and theiroleader, noting this on “a slight change of activist focus”, include:
The US leader has threatened to invadeoNigeria overoallegations that theofarmer-herderoclashesoare aogenocideoagainstochristians - and South Africa has criticisedotheoUSopolicy of acceptingoAfrikanersoasoallegedlyo"refugees"; another money-based attempt to influence an election result by the current US leader;

Drones have affected an airport in Germany and a military base in Belgium as a new drone defence system is deployed; “Ukraine's Anti-Corruption Court sentences former tax chief to 6 years in prison”; “silence from Ukraine’s allies after ‘politically motivated’ arrest of former top energy official” - and the imposition of control of a city by the national government is of some concern, and the EU is concerned about Ukraine's backsliding on anti-corruption efforts (although a nuclear official has been arrested over bribery allegations - see this on the extent of the problem);
an analysis has shown lessons on air defence and infrastructure from one Ukrainian city - and, as the USA's leader confirms he is not considering providing Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles, Ukraine also needs more drone operators to match increased production and realise their potential, but has received more Patriot missile defence systems and missiles from the UK; Ukraine has confirmed that it has also attacked Russian energy infrastructure; as Ukraine plans to stretch its 2026 finances in response to the EU slowing its support, criticism of a winter support package as populist rather than effective ... but Norway has pledged $7 billion in aid for 2026; a Ukrainian court has sentenced a Russian POW to life for executing a surrendered Ukrainian POW;

the current US leader “is repeating the long, painful history of US ‘policing’ of Latin America”; “centrist D66 party ousts far right to win Netherlands election, local media reports”; against fatal protests, the disputed election result in Tanzania has returned the incumbent; continuing fears for those in the city in Darfur, Sudan which fell to the RSF last week as some nations call for a ceasefire; North Korea has indulged in more artillery rocket sabre-rattling before a US visit to South Korea; “the Australia Security Intelligence Organisation believes there is a “realistic possibility” a foreign government will try to assassinate a “perceived dissident” in Australia”; the problem of "space t_ror_r_sm"; Canada's PM has, troublingly, apologised to the USA's leader over a Canadian state ad that told the truth; problems in Nigeria with internally displaced people being forced back to areas where t_r r_r_sts are still - or resuming - activities; changes after Norway found the Chinese manufacturer of its new buses could control them to some extent;

more transphobia in the USA - and a possible future reversal of equal marriage; Qld has refused to comply with a legal request before trans children are outed;

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our MÓ•gan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).
