Post No. 162 - Adapting Wicca to the Great Southern Land

Indigenous matters have cropped up in some of my posts (for instance, see here and here). What I want to cover here is NOT indigenous ritual work - apart from that mostly being sacred, I don't know ANYTHING such rituals [1] - I have no idea, for example, how a tanderrum (welcoming) ritual would be conducted.

However, the land that I live on does not have the four seasons that my pagan traditions originated in: I would like to adapt it to suit the place I live in.

The indigenous peoples of this land, the Kulin people, had - according to a public webpage at the Museum of Victoria - identified seven seasons. I am hoping that this information that is publicly available has been made so with permission: I have used it to try to develop a new way of invoking that is based on these seasons that exist in the place I live.

I've come across a similar display previously, at the Brambuk Centre in the Grampians Gedriwerd), which is also available on the Bureau of Metreorology website, but this one was local.

The basic information about each season available on the Museum's website is:
Kulin Seasons (a suggested template is here);

I haven't finished this, to the extent that it is complete and neatly presented, but - given the high demands on my time - it is likely to be some time before I do. In the meantime, maybe someone else can use or finish this. So, here are my rough notes.

Before reading them, however, I ask that you read my post on Not devoking: I think being concerned about the possibility of doing something like "sending away the rain", which is catastrophic in mainland Australia, needs to be considered. If you do any devoking when working with indigenous seasons, make sure you are only devoking any energies represented by the season, not the season itself. I actually just go straight from the working to opening the circle and then doing a really good grounding when doing this type of working.

You'll see that I have tried to allocate a compass direction and set of emotions/life experience with each season, much as, for instance, east is associated with spring and any form of renewal.

It will be interesting to see what the Australian pagan community evolves towards in its practice over the next hundred years or so.

Love, light, hugs and blessings

Notes:
  1. Although others in my family may have such knowledge - but, quite rightly, have not passed it on to me. My full-blood brother has spent many years working with indigenous people, particularly in northern NSW, and my full-blood sister was married to an indigenous man in the Kimberley region for a few years

Post No. 161 - How to know if I am mad (one suggested way, at any rate)

OK: the context to this post is the widely held (with some validity, it must be conceded) view that hearing voices is an indication of some sort of mental health issue. Now, before I go any further, I wish to state that having a mental health issue is NOT a reason for discrimination or making baseless assumptions. Amongst the people know and love who have mental health issues are a relative with Tourettes, a friend with Aspergers (and very good cooking skills) and a range of people with other issues requiring either medication and/or counselling and/or other care. For that matter, I have to take care to manage my stress levels properly, as chronic stress (predominantly workplace stress, in my case) can lead to mental ill health.

So.

This post is not about mental health issues being "problems", but the notion that hearing voices is a sign of having mental health issues. The reason I am writing it is that I recently read (and I apologise for not keeping the source details handy) of a view that the way to tell whether you are clairaudient or suffering from mental health issue is that, with the former, you hear the voices inside your head, whereas with the latter, you hear them outside your head.

That's actually not quite correct.

From a psychic point of view, when your clairaudeint perception is of voices inside your head, it is referred to as "subjective clairaudience", whereas when the perception is of voices outside your head, it is "objective clairaudience". The overwhelming majority of my clairaudience is (as with my other psychic perceptions) subjective.

I have had moments of objective psychism - once when I was woken by hearing a voice in my room calling my name, and more recently a episode of rapping that I posted about. I have similarly had a couple of episodes of objective clairvoyance (once during my early training, when I saw one of Guides' sandals; another time many years before then when I saw the souls of those about me, great spheres of light, while sailing [1]). However, most of the time my perception is "inside me" - and is nothing the lesser for that, just as is the case with others: if you perceive subjectively, rather than objectively, there is NOTHING wrong with your psychic ability. Movies and books implying that you have to see as if they are so real and solid that you could almost confuse them with "real" (meaning physically incarnate and physically present) people are spouting a load of rubbish.

On the other hand, going back to clairaudience, objective examples of psychic ability do exist, and it is possible that you hear voices outside your head as a result of such ability. IN EITHER CASE, you must "test your spirits". NEVER take ANYTHING you hear from a non-physical source as having automatic credibility - as we should exercise a healthy scepticism in our physical lives, so too must we exercise personal responsibility and HEALTHY scepticism about our psychic perceptions.

Do you want to know if you have a mental health issue? See an appropriately trained professional.

Notes:
  1. On this occasion, the trigger was hearing a woman crewing on one of the other boats laugh, and a phrase from one of Richard Bach's books came to mind: "We are the otters of the Universe - fun-loving, playful creatures" (that quote is probably NOT exact, given the passage of a few decades :) ). At that moment, my eyes rolled up into my head (they didn't, on the other occasion) and I spent the next 30 seconds or so manouvering the boat through things like a few tacks with only the whites of my eyes visible. My crew seemed a bit wary of me for the rest of that regatta ...
Updates:
  1. I sahould also mention that I actually can objectively see etherics under certain circumstances easily, but I actually consider that a fairly low level of psychism - it doesn't mean much, if anything.

Post No. 160 - Sexism and the quest for "love"

After my recent post about the problems I had encountered in pubs (see here), I came across a post on "The Age" website where a redheaded woman has been publicly asked about the colour of her pubic hair [1]. What an arrogant, insensitive, stupid, presumptuous mongrel that bloke was! How dare ANYONE make such an invasive comment! How dare anyone have such a complete lack of comprehension about personal privacy! And yet ... they do (especially in Aussie pubs! I also note that our judges are, apparently, tired of courts being clogged as a result of drunken violence - see here [4]).

It was sad that the woman felt she had to brush it aside at the time on the grounds that to do otherwise would be "social suicide". Actually, I consider it would have been "social spring-cleaning".

But then, I'm a little bit weird like that: mostly I prefer to spend my social time with people I feel safe with, and like. I'm too old and crotchety to waste any more of my life on bad experiences that I can avoid.

That attitude of mine has probably got something to do with my growth path being "Karma Yoga" rather than "Bhakti Yoga" as well. I would much rather, for instance, that I was allowed to just settle down and get my life tasks done rather than have anyone seek to make me "feel special". [2]

So now, I will go clean out the cat litter :)

Oh - and by the way, I have also encountered women who are as invasive of privacy and presumptuous as the bloke I mentioned ...

Also, the negative karma created by such disrespectfully people does not necessarily mean they will come back in the gender of their victim and experience the same behaviour, but it does mean they will have a breach of what they would like to keep private, and feel affected by that.

As a final point, if you are in such a situation and wish to do something psychic and hold your peace because you don't want to commit "social suicide:, try projecting positive energy (e.g. a bright coloured light - NOT red! [3]) from your solar plexus chakra to theirs. It's something I've taught a few young people to use to in order to cope with bullies (with good results_.

Post No. 159 - What is the most useful psychic exercise to do?

Here’s a little list of suggestions, from most important to least:
1. ask for protection and assistance by positive forces
2. grounding
3. flaming and shielding
4. working with colours on a regular – at least several times a week - basis (see my previous post on this here)

Post No. 158 - Loss of earthiness

I have a friend who is concerned that society these days is too politically correct (which I will abbreviate to PC for the rest of this post). I actually disagree, as I consider words are potentially more damaging than fists, but I do agree that something is wrong with society, however.

I’ve been considering this, and I think I could best describe this as a lack of earthiness.

Now, “earthiness” has, for me, some associations that I should outline. It includes connection with the world of nature (especially plants and seasons), it includes the earthiness of being positive about sex and sexuality (which I’ve touched on elsewhere – for instance, see here), and it includes “earthy language” – swearing, to put it bluntly. Swearing has been shown to help deal with pain (I’ll dig up that link one day), but one is not supposed to swear – it was, in fact, a series of posts on an email group I am on about the topic of swearing that led me to this post.

On that list someone was told off for choice of swear words – I actually do agree with that telling off (the words used were discriminatory), but some of us do need to be able to swear to help manage stress, frustration and even pain.

So what do we do? Well, I think it is possible to be PC in one’s swearing, and still indulge in swearing quite satisfactorily – believe it or not. I won’t give any examples on this blog, though (I’m trying to avoid having to enable the adult content button – gosh darn it!).

My concept of physicality also includes a few other topics which I would like to touch upon briefly (as I am running out of time before I am due to go and see my sister to give her a daily dose of healing). I consider we need also to accept the earthiness (perhaps, the “physicality”?) of life in a number of ways.

Firstly, there need to be physical challenges and physical risk taking behaviours for those teenagers who need it: we no longer have passing into adulthood ceremonies (I never considered debutante balls in that category, by the way), and those didn’t include trans/intersex people anyway so they were flawed, but we need things for those who want to push their physicality (as an example of this need, there was a Japanese student in Australia who recently went walkabout because he wanted to try himself out physically). I also note that these should have a sense of being forbidden – as do swear words! – or they won’t be taken up. Still, we should, as a society, be able to come up with something which allows young people to try themselves out in a way that they find satisfying, without being too risky.

Have a look here and here for some related thoughts …

Next, not all of us are cerebral. I actually consider the ending of trade and technical schools in Victoria in the 1990s a great and tragic flaw in our education system – I did at the time, and I have had no reason to change my opinion. In fact, much that I have seen since then only reinforces my opinion. (I, incidentally, consider myself a mixture of both: I need both physicality in a number of ways, such as going bush, exercise and my carpentry hobby [and better yet, sailing :D ], but I also need intellectual rigour and stimulation.)

Also, related to that point, not all of us verbal. Stereotypically, women are supposed to prefer verbal interaction, at which they are - stereotypically - supposed to be better at than men. However, I know women who are more physical than verbal, and men who are more verbal than physical. In any case, many of our education, counseling and growth strategies assume participants are verbally literate: that is not necessarily so. There are too many people getting thrown out on the education/job scrap heap because they lack verbal or other fluency – in my opinion.

I also consider the sex negativity of society could be due to a lack of earthiness, but I have touched upon that previously.

Finally, I want to emphasise that a lack of connection to natural world is a problem. If we were more earthy, fewer people would be surprised by physical calamities such as floods or bushfires (and maybe fewer would live in such places – or , at least, maybe they would take appropriate precautions), or the rescheduling of flights/commuter services as a result of storms, or have a lack of empathy for farmers when affected by weather (or be surprised when prices go up after a drought or flood!), or would do stupid things like plant trees on boundaries, or be surprised when a wind blows things away.

Post No. 157 - Aussie %*$*%)%#!@ Pubs

Recently I was harassed by a group of people in a pub. Pubs are not places I chose to go (how terribly, terribly un-Australian of me! Oh golly gosh!): I’ve never enjoyed them – right from the time I was a kid getting dragged along to the beer garden with my parents. Still, I was there for others, to help a particular celebration.

Things started to go awry as soon as I got there: I had trouble getting one half-drunk person to hear me and move out the way of the path they were blocking, and then I found myself being overwhelmed with negative psychic energy – despite flaming continuously, at maximum intensity - and this was in the beer garden, which is normally the most innocuous part of an Aussie pub. Things continued to deteriorate, and eventually I was on the receiving end of some verbal taunts – which, for safety’s sake, I ignored.

Now, I actually consider verbal assaults potentially worse than physical assaults – it can take longer to recover from the damage (I’ve buried people I’ve known who have been driven to commit suicide by such bigoted assaults), and the frustration of having to bite one’s lip (metaphorically) for safety’s sake is galling. I’m still trying to deal with those events, so please forgive me if they influence what I’m writing.

Now, at the time, to some extent, and ever since then, I have been contemplating the behaviours I observed and experienced.

My first point of contemplation is: how do people miss what is going on around them? I observed little cliques around tables, or blocking pathways, all focused intensely within themselves, all seemingly oblivious to other groups. Now, to some extent, that is OK: they are there to, presumably, socialize with their friends, but:
(a) some interaction with other people is inevitable (that’s the nature of pubs);
(b) I am aware that some people go to pubs for the purpose of meeting others – which I will come back to shortly; and
(c) it can be dangerous – or at least irresponsible – under some circumstances – to not pay attention to what is happening.

As well as verbal abuse, there are physical assaults that happen at pubs, and assaults of people who have just left pubs. The best forms of self defence begin BEFORE any form of assault ahs occurred (this applies to both physical AND non-physical), and include maintaining a good situational awareness. Without being paranoid, it is quite easy to occasionally glance at the people around you, and see who is staring (which some do to signal interest in sex, of course), or who has aggressive body language, or who is sounding particularly obnoxious as a drunk, and make a mental note to be wary, or to avoid leaving too soon after they leave.

If you’ve had a verbal stoush with someone, it is not a good idea to leave the pub just a few minutes after them: give them some time to cool down, or get bored, or forget (if they are particularly drunk) why they are waiting, and wander (stagger!) off. I understand this waiting outside pubs and nightclubs has been a particular problem at some nightclubs (although I could not find a good link to illustrate that now).

THE SAME PRINCIPLE APPLIES TO PSYCHIC INTERACTIONS. If you’ve just been on the receiving end of some psychic attack from someone, don’t leave immediately after the person: they may not be there physically, buy they may well have left more negative energy (or negative intent) there, and you risk walking into it before it has had a chance to disperse. If people are drunk or alcohol affected, they are unlikely to be able to focus enough to create a thought form which will last – and, on possibly your part, they are also unlikely to be able to keep up their psychic defences to adequately protect themselves against negative psychic energy (this is one of the reasons I rarely drink, and never anywhere other than home).
So … it is irresponsible not to pay attention to what is happening around you. Yes, ideally one wouldn’t have to because the world would be perfect and safe, but the world is neither perfect nor safe.

Ideally, one should never be surprised by an assault – physical, verbal or psychic. Ideally, one should have seen the threat building – in fact, ESPECIALLY if one is psychic. Part of setting up my wards (psychic defences) includes a trigger to warn me consciously if a potential threat is developing, or someone or something impacts on the ward.

This sort of topic is something I have sometimes warned other trans* people about, incidentally – it is part of the bucket of survival skills trans* people need.

Going back to the behaviour of others in a pub, I think a lot of the problem can be summarised as being a case of putting own physical needs ahead of others emotional/mental wellbeing/safety. Person A wants to connect to person B, and is prepared to do or say something at person C’s expense if it will get a laugh. It’s the sort of thing I’ve seen amongst groups of friends: make fun of an outsider and get everyone laughing together, and that must mean we’re all bonding … Well, as someone who is usually one of those outsiders, I consider such behavior shows selfishness, ignorance and appalling immaturity (on a number of levels, not just spiritual).

It may also, in my opinion, show excessive focus on physicality – putting sexual needs of oneself ahead of the wellbeing of others – and such behavior is, when all is said and done, NOT necessary to get laid. But I have seen women defend obnoxious male drunks, basically because of fear of being without sex - or because the obnoxious male drunk is family. [1]

This recent incident has hardened my views on Aussie pubs. I now consider them a great source of (psychic and emotional) evil - not so much the cause or initiation of evil, as a place where society’s problems are magnified by mutual reinforcement and by picking up negative entities.

I will no longer go into pubs – certainly not heterosexual pubs, and I am going to be wary of other pubs for a very long time …

Love, light, hugs and blessings

Gnwmythr

Update:
  1. A very wise woman has pointed out to me - very correctly (Diolch Cariad) - that one of the main reasons women may defend men in pubs is not so much so they can get sex, but for fear of being bashed or otherwise abused when they get home if they DON'T defend their partner.

Post No. 156 - Some reading while I'm on hold ...

One of my sisters is currently receiving treatment for cancer, and I am providing her with as much support and channeled energy healing (see here, and the first part of here - particularly the diagram) as I can. While this is happening (for another few weeks yet), I won't be in a position to post as much as I would like to.

However, these links may be of some interest. I don't necessarily agree with all that is on them, but they are, at the least, interesting (to me) - enjoy :)
It hasn't been all gloomy: my partner has had a handfasting to her other partner, someone I have enormous respect and regard for. Love and blessings to both of you *mwa (If you don't understand this, look up polyamory.)

Also, after reading Galina Krasskova, "Runes - Theory and Practice" (pub. 2010 by Career Press, ISBN-13 978-1-60163-085-8), which I mentioned in my post here, I'm exploring the concept of relating to each rune as an energy/"entity"/"Deity" in its own right - which, I must say, I find easier to do than relate to Deities connected to runes as per the list of associations given for runes. So, having drawn myself a new set of runes, I am considering creating a set of on-line shrines, one for each rune, at the nshrine site, using the rather unspectacular artwork I have created for myself.

Post No. 155 - Protection

Just a quick thought on protection, triggered by doing some re-establishment of protective seals recently:
- all entries and exits from an area being protected need to be sealed or protected as well as the space itself.

What I am talking about here are doors, windows, electrical cables (if you're not sure where they run, just do all electrical applicances/outlets - GPOs, lights, switches, etc, and ESPECIALLY TVs, computers and phones), all pipes in and out (sinks, taps, etc)

Post No. 154 - Rituals in space

For those who know The Muppets, I heard the title of this post along the lines of - and with apologies and all due worship to Miss Piggy - the recurring skit "Pigs in Space".

Moving right along, then.

I've been working on rituals for my local home conditions, based on the Kulin people seasons (I'll post a link when I find one to a previous post of mine on this :) ), which is an development from the "traditional" northern seasons being swapped and used in the southern hemisphere.

However, what will happen when people go into space - and that WILL happen, maybe in a few centuries, but it will happen?

What energies will those space dwellers become aware of? What Deities? If we have such fundamental changes from one hemisphere to the other, what changes will happen in space? Will there be something else that is the equivalent of "seasons"?

I've written about aliens before, but I'm also reading Sara Douglas' Axis trilogy, which talks of being tuning into "the dance of the stars" (bit like the music of the spheres, perhaps), and that has also helped me to this speculation. [1]

Update No. 1:
Actually, I'm finding it quite a useful exercise to tune into cosmic, stellar or interstellar energies. I live in an inner city suburb, and am well overdue for a trip to the bush (let alone getting out on the ocean for a while :) ), but this is not a bad substitute ...

Love, light, hugs and blessings

Gnwmythr

Notes:
  1. I am also working on a reinterpretation of the runes from the perspective of people dwelling amongst the stars - literally a "cosmic" viewpoint, in sense

Post No. 153 - Honour, mistakes, and forgiveness

I recently read a book, a present from my friend "Venerable Rune Master from the Bush" [1], by Galina Krasskova, "Runes - Theory and Practice" (pub. 2010 by Career Press, ISBN-13 978-1-60163-085-8). I'm not planning on writing a review of this book, although it is good - especially on the topic of paying a price for knowledge/skills (which ALWAYS happens [2]), viewing the runes as living energies rather than simply as divinatory tools, listening for the sounds that one's galdr makes on the web of wyrd, the importance of personal responsibility [3], respect for the runes (e.g., not abusing them by trivial readings), and the importance of never breaking your word - even in small things like returning books on time to the library.

I would describe that last point as "being honourable". Honour is of great personal importance to me - partly it always has, partly that was increased when I studied Druidry, but above all, it is important to me because I belong to Tyr (you may know this relationship as "Patron Deity", but I am aware that a Patron Deity is not simply a beneficial influence in your life to try and make your life as you wish it to be: it is more rigorous than, say, simply choosing a deity who's description you like!).

As such, there are things in this life that I try to do which others consider with bemusement - things like sticking to the law, or otherwise doing something to change any laws I consider wrong.

I have a bad tendency to get cranky when I see rules being broken out of sheer laziness - for instance, people who have no disability parking illegally so they don't have to walk a couple of hundred metres. That's me being judgemental, which I judge as me being bad. Ah well, I know I've got a lot of things to work on, and, as I've mentioned in previous posts, forgiveness is one of them.

(Also, non apparent disabilities should be noted.)

What I have come to realise is that, for me, the problem with forgiveness is when it is abused. I've posted recently about how sorry can be an over-used word - it's become a bit like the Mediaeval practice of "indulgences", which is basically purchase of forgiveness so you can go out the next week and do the same thing again (which was an attitude I saw in "Sunday Christians" when I was a youngster, not even a teenager, and which helped turn me off Christianity).

I've known people who were so casual in their use of words that whatever they said was basically meaningless (and I'm thinking of one person who was close to me over two decades ago in particular). I also live on the receiving end of bigotry and prejudice (which doesn't mean I'm incapable of being prejudiced myself, by the way), and get very frustrated in, for instance, work situations when I have someone apologise for being offensive in such a way that I know they have not changed their fundamental views (I had particular run-ins with a past manager in a previous job who was particularly inept and incompetent at managing human issues, and would pout on a "pseudo-wise father" voice, and then pummel underlings into accepting his superficial, stupid facades of formulaic apologies and the like).

If I consent to give my forgiveness, I want to know that there is some rigour and genuineness on the other person's part, and that it won't be a simple formulaic approach (I've done X, so if I do Y they won't give me a hard time), rather than what it should be, which is along the lines of:
"I've done X, and that has had impact Z, which is wrong because of principle A, and what contributed to me doing that was circumstances, D, E and F, and more fundamentally, personal flaws H, L and M, all of which which I can fix by doing G and Z".

As an example of that, a few night's ago, I made a driving mistake: I changed lanes without looking adequately enough and another car had to take evasive action. It was my fault, my mistake, and potentially could have caused an accident.

I may have been affected in a number of ways by one of my sister's current illness, and was definitely affected by lack of sleep arising from a combination of circumstances - but part of this also means I will be more willing to say "no". Out of honour, I cannot claim allowances for those - it is up to me to manage such influences, same as ALL other drivers, without making excuses.

The other driver was scared, shocked and - understandably - angry (in fact, it's been a while since I have made a mistake like that and had to be on the receiving end of such anger: it was unpleasant, and more than a little scary).

I've identified a number of issues which led to me making that mistake, and have taken actions to address all of them - for instance, I've changed the glasses I wear while driving, as the ones I had on that time have a pattern on the side which interferes with my peripheral vision, and my partner and I will manage navigation issues differently. What I have NOT done is say, "oh gosh, that was almost an accident. Oh well, nothing happened, so all's well".

(I have also seen some brilliant applications of this principle of looking seriously at issues in people close to me over the last couple of years, and have learned from these.)

I have unquestionably been influenced in my attitude to these issues by my training and work on job safety (including as a mine safety officer [4]), and consider that Victoria's laws and requirements on this are now excellent (see here, for instance), but good, rigorous personal development work, as one experiences with a good counsellor (they're not all good, unfortunately) or in a good personal development group, also helps.

As an example, consider an example of some past life work (to understand this, see here and here):

  • someone may do a regression where they find they did something to harm another because they were jealous, so they try to address the issue of jealousy now as they clear the karmic energy from that life;
  • as they work with the issue, they may realise there are issues of personal insecurity, feeling unloveable and lack of belief in the abundance of the Universe to deal with as well, and they begin working on these issues (through past life therapy, conventional counselling, personal development work and anything else which suits that person); and
  • they realise that
    (a) problems are like onions: multiple layered and complex, and
    (b) as Lobsang Rampa used to write in his books: the more you know, the more you know there is to know.
This is all a little like the difference between professional and amateur in a number of areas in life - including sport. When I was sailing competitively, I could relate to the comment made by an Olympic Gold medallist, who said "the more I practice, the "luckier" I get". Amateurs, people who don't make a serious effort at something, may not understand the level of application involved in developing a high level of a skill - whether that is something as apparently materialistic as throwing a discuss, or something seemingly more spiritually "admirable" as managing one's personal flaws and faults (keep in mind that I found competitive sailing gave me a way of coping with my personal troubles, and a way of connecting with Nature, so I don't see sport as necessarily lacking in spiritual benefits - overfunded definitely, but not without some spiritual benefits).

I wonder what the world would be like if we all tried to be professional about our personal growth, rather than amateurs ...

There is another issue which came out of my driving mistake a few nights ago: I saw what it could be like to be on the receiving end of my hardline attitudes taken to an extreme level. As a result, I've now reached a point where I can start working with the issue of forgiveness, and the separate but related how I deliver my views. I've not done anything about this for a while, as I was still struggling with the issue of forgiveness itself, which I still consider unquestionably over-used and too generously given (albeit mostly by individuals of themselves).

I have a few other thoughts on honour that I would like to include here. A number of groups have various Codes of Ethics (honour), or requirements and obligations - maybe even marked by taking vows and oaths. Yes, honour is important, and commitments that one takes on are important, but one needs to take into consideration that people may have pre-existing, possibly greater commitments.

For instance, someone may wish to study and apply themselves to psychic or spiritual matters, but they may have family obligations (e.g., partner(s) or "young" children, by which I mean anyone less than the legal age of adulthood in their culture): in my view, those take precedence over the person's desires, just as family needs outweigh someone's desire to gamble.

As another example, people may have pre-life commitments which take precedence over those of any group now.

I've mentioned wanting to establish a group called the Rangers of the Inner Plane: this group actually seeks to be honourable by ensuring that members and applicants fulfill their existing obligations before the subsequent obligations of the Rangers. So, for example, if members or applicants have family or other commitments, allow them extra time to meet those obligations.

Update No. 1:
An engineer I used to work for had a saying: "Show me someone who hasn't made a mistake, and I'll show you someone who hasn't tried to do anything." Quite true in a lot of ways, I think, and there can be a benefit to developing resilience to handle mistakes. I know I refer to the AFL a bit: well, the 2008 loss of Geelong in the Grand Final was, in my humble opinion, an indication of what can happen when things go your way too much. Geelong dominated throughout the home-and-away part of the season, then only first came under serious pressure in the Grand Final -and couldn't handle it. So ... a few mistakes can be useful, perhaps.

Notes:
  1. This means "bush" in the Australian sense, of wild places.
  2. A price may be as simple as time, energy and effort to learn something, but, for more advanced knowledge, it may be more rigorous.
  3. The runes don't operate, according to the author, along the lines of "if the universe allows me to do this, I have some sort of cosmic permission", but more along the lines "if you're foolish enough to do this, then so be it and the consequences be upon ye" (my wording). She also talks about the importance of things like getting out of debt yourself, rather than relying on a divination system to fix your lifestyle management failings, before trying to do magical workings :)
  4. I was, technically speaking, Mine Safety Officer. In reality, at the time it was still an operating cattle property which a large company was drilling to find out if the coal that was there was economic to mine. So my job - well, that part of it that had the safety hat on it (I did a lot more than just that - which was quite challenging for a graduate three months out of university!) - largely came down to things like organising advanced driving courses to stop foolish drivers who had never driven in the bush injuring or killing themselves, persuading people to keep car windows clean, etc. Following all that, I now watch how people behave when they think no-one is watching, or that they are in a situation where "it doesn't matter", to assess their level of personal honour (integrity). In my view, it is what you do when "it doesn't matter" that matters.

Book rave: "Spirit Release", by Sue Allen - part two: the other tags

The other tags from my post here.

Post No. 152 - Book rave: "Spirit Release", by Sue Allen

I read a book on spirit rescue some time ago that I was VERY disappointed in, as it was extremely biased in its viewpoint, coming across as very Christian and very anti-Wicca/witchcraft/pagan. I posted about my disappointment in this book on the Spirit Rescuers web group, on Ning at that time, and subsequently also on Social Go, and received a reply advising me to try reading "Spirit Release" by Sue Allen.

Well, life kept coming along, so I wasn't able to get around to reading it for some time, but I recently got a copy from the TS Bookshop.

Wow.

As my partner - jokingly - said "Hey - now there are two sane people in the world" (meaning, there are two people talking about the sorts of things I do - I'm not the only "crazy" prophet).

I'm still reading the book, and have yet to be sure about whether she is anti-pagan or OK with Wicca, witchcraft and paganism (witchcraft has been mentioned as a possible source of psychic attack, but I consider there can be benefits from combining paganism with spirit rescue - see here), but so much of the rest is the sort of stuff I have been taught, and have used for so long, it is almost scarily :)

There is content about links (which she calls cords), good and "bad" earthbound entities (I call the "bad" ones "uncooperatives", and she calls them "Dark Force Entities"), that situations can occur for a whole range of reasons (and she has a good attitude towards karma). The only concern is whether she is going to be anti-witchcraft/pagan/Wicca ...

Anyway, the book details are:
"Spirit Release", by Sue Allen, pub. o-books, 2007, ISBN 978-1-846940-33-0.

One of the books cited as a reference by Ms Allen is William Baldwin's "Spirit Releasement Therapy: A Technique Manual" (pub. Headline Books, USA, 1991, 2nd Ed. 1992). This cropped up as a reference in another (on line) article I read (and included in this post) with a slightly different citation:

Baldwin, W.J. (1991) "Spirit Releasement Therapy: A Technique Manual". (2nd ed.). Falls Church, VA: The Human Potential Foundation Press.

Update No. 1
Well, sadly, I have to report that Ms Allen is misinformed and somewhat biased in what she writen concerning earth-based religions such as Wicca, witchcraft and other forms of paganism (see here and here).

Her commentary on witchcraft (in her chapter on psychic attack) is SOLELY about the dangers of using spells to control others (e.g. love spells). Now, while I agree with her on that point, it would have been good if she could have at least acknowledged that there are other aspects to witchcraft and other Earth based religions - after all, she managed to mention that Voodoo "is a religion just as Chritianity and Buddhism are religions".

So, Ms Allen, are earth based religions.

At least she continues "as with any other practice using energy and intention, Voodou can be used either positively or negatively".

On a more positive note, the description of clearing links ("cutting cords") is good, although I combine the separate stages described of "cut, then heal at both ends" into one step, by sending light, love and healing from one end of the link out to dissolve the cord totally. (A danger I have heard of elsewhere is of a cut cord latching onto another person/energy; that cannot happen when the whole cord is dissolved throughout it's length.) Ms Allen's description of the effects that cords can cause when attached to particulat chakras is also particularly good.

The chapter on "Intentional Psychic Attack", apart from the problem with earth based religions, is also turning out to be excellent, with topics covered so far including thought forms, past life thought forms, thought forms used in psychic attack, body parts and products, objects, and entities. The coverage of clearing past life energies could benefit from consideration of karmic aspects along the lines that I was taught back in the 80s and have been working with ever since (see here and here), but that is one topic I don't expect a lot of people to know about.

OK, back to the book, and I'll post more as I wend my way through it.

Update No. 2
I have, sadly, found more coments that are anti-witchcraft, and yet the author very clearly has a very strong connection to the Earth and earth energies - even using a blending of earth and "spiritual/heavenly" energies in some chakra meditations that I also use (which is nice validation for me of the guidance I've received). In fact, Ms Allen writes of possessing/obsessing entities (she calls the latter "attachments") that will block the Crown chakra and "below the feet".

I rather suspect that this is simply a case of the author not having had much contact with genuine pagan religions, including witchcraft. She is quite inclusive of same sex attraction - even giving, as an example of the symptoms of obsession/attachment, one gay friend of hers who suddenly found himself having sexual throughts about a woman: she told him to get round there straight away, and found a heterosexual attachment :) Quite a relieving breath of fresh air, after reading the sort of idiotic tripe in other books claiming that a "cure" was possible for homosexuality or being trans (which, of course, has the offensive and WRONG imlication that a "cure" is needed at all!). It is also evident that she hasn't come across Katrina Raphael's chakra system, which talks about the "Earth Star" chakra, which is the reason that entitites may place a block a block "below the feet" (see my previous post here).

On the other hand, the description of succubus and incubus is standard heterosexual fare: There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. (Shakespeare's Hamlet, Act 1, Scene 5).

Aside from that, however, the book is still excellent, and I have learned a couple of things (e.g., that blocks of Crown and Earth Star chakras can be used). A few other random comments:
  • I have not come across extraterrestials as obsessing entities, and note that extraterrestials can actualy also be guides (one of my parallels' last life was on another planet, and that part of my soul is now acting as a guide for me [specialising in working with extraterrestial civilisations]; with regard to physical extraterrestials, see my previous post here for some information of the good and bad civilisations which exist);
  • Power Animals are mentioned, which is good as it acknowledges shamanism (incidentally, my partner is currently reading a book on rescue which talks about animals becoming earthbound: I haven't come across that myself as far as I can recall, but will watch for it: it would certainly be possible in some of the horrible cases of death through abuse of animals, just as torture and other assaults on humans can lead to them being earthbound by their pain);
  • there is good coverage of demons, including the need for the spirit rescuer to be confident and well grounded & protected to reduce vulnerability to attack themselves, although I would comment that there isn't always a contract between "lesser" demons and their masters: sometimes it is just straight out domination or intimidation (see also my posts here, here and here);
  • elementals are acknowledged, with their release being "to a place that is appropriate", which is correct because, as the author writes, they are part of their own section of reality, and the Summerlands aren't necessarily a correct part of their reality;
  • there is good discussion on how to differentiate between the various types of entity/influence (this could usefully be summarised into a flow chart - I did something similar when I did what was effectively a Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual for a past circle of mine [see here for an example based around communication] on techniques for cooperatives and non-cooperatives [which I will try to scan and add in the next few days], but that could usefully be generalised);
  • fragments are talked about, both in the context of soul retrievals and what is, in my words, effectively soul retrieval for earthbound entities (and other attachments) being released;
  • (spirit) guides are not always wise, just either wiser than the person being guided, or being helped by people wiser - and their not always in spirit either :) (see the diagram in my post here);
  • the section on Vampires could do with a description of the "Black Veil" Code of Ethics, but then again, very few people seem to know of that (see my previous here, which mentions this);
  • there is a good chapter on how and why spirits attach themselves to people, although I've found that very drunk or drug affected people have an aura that is blown so wide open that obsessing spirits can leave;
  • the chapter on performing rescue is good (although I have just skimmed it at this stage, and will read it properly later), including the need for rescuers to make their own assessment, and the fact that people could genuinely have a mental illness, and using fingers to communicate, which is a little like a Touch For Health (kinesiology) technique that I use;
  • there is a good analogy that "closing" or "shutting down a chakra is more a case of desensitising it, which makes sense as the chakras are how our higher frequency bodies sustain us in this physical realm;
  • I disagree that salt should not be used to cleanse crystals on the basis that it can cause harm to a crystal - so can sunlight, for that matter: all techniques just basically require suitable care (see my workshop notes - without the figures - here);
  • the technique of "visualisation" can also be adapted to use sound or scent;
  • I use a "light test" (included in my previous post here) to check some matters such as whether guides are geneuinely "good guys" or "bad guys", and whether what I'm feeling is mine, or the influence of an antity/attack/etc;
  • Horus is mentioned in a healing context, which is appropriate, but I generally find Yinepu (usually referred to by the Greek name "Anubis") the best Egyptian deity to work with for rescue;
  • the book does come across as having a Christian bias to me, with the sections on Ascended Masters and Archangels: that perception is largely my problem, though, as such concepts are part of Jewish faith, Theosophy, New Age, etc, etc, etc. Still, I am feeling that there may be a need for a pagan-friendly book on spirit rescue (maybe "The WItches Guides to Spirit Rescue: a Manual" :) ), where I wont have the nails scratched down the blackboard response I get when there is lots of waffle about Angels (may their God bless their cotton angelic socks :) ).

I will probably not post any more on this book, but I am starting to think seriously about the pagan book on rescue I mentioned ...

Post No. 151 - World peace, and the time it takes to change the world

About four or five years ago, I helped run an online Shrine in the pre-split version of the Correllian tradition. One of the things which came out of that was the Hope, Peace, Love and Prosperity spell [1], to be repeated on the 11th of each month. This was developed after a discussion on the causes and possible cures of conflict, and was set to the 11th as an anniversary of the Twin Towers attack, although it is also the anniversary day date of the First World War Armistice.

One of things I had talked to my guides and helpers about was how could we know that we were having some sort of influence - thinking particularly of the Middle East. I was told to watch for mention of the future being better for children. Well, oddly enough, I haven't noticed that much in the leaders' speeches (although I had in that of campaigners for peace - notably, in Northern Ireland [see here and here]), until recently - see here.

So ... maybe all this work is having an effect. Of course, maybe it is not. After all, there are many, many people thinking on conflict and peace, not all thinking constructively.

If we are being succesful, it has taken between one and two thousand trained witches about four years to do so.

Changing the world is a big thing: it takes persistance, but it can be done.

Love, light, hugs and blessings

Notes:
1. Hope, Peace, Love and Prosperity Ritual (11th of each month)

HOPE
May the winds of hope bloom
Sweeping away despair & sorrow
So that life again may grow
Building a better tomorrow
May hope clear the air and end
The darkling clouds of fear & pain
And bright beginnings send
That we may dare to dream again
May what was dark & overcast
Be now renewed & once more whole
Freed from all limitations past
Healed by hope within the soul
Awake now hope!
Spread wings & fly!
Cleanse & liberate my heart!
All things are possible and I
On wings of hope shall claim my part.

PEACE
May the Fires of Peace burn bright
Giving light when the world is darkest
Putting hate & bigotry to flight
And laying prejudice to rest
May the light of peace melt away
the encrustation of violence and bitterness which holds sway
So often in the worlds events
May peace transmute & tame
Unruly aggression and arrogance
Subdue them in humanities name
To give the future a decent chance
Thus I say and Thus I pray
And Thus I will it to come to be
I pray and work for peace this day
For all the world, for you, for me!

LOVE CALLING
May Love like water pour Forth
Filling my heart and soul
Flowing out over all the Earth
And making all things whole
Love as deep as the ocean
Clear as the mountain lakes
Crowning all other emotion
The Thirst of Humanity slakes
Love enters & heals the anchoring heart
And Washes away its pain
Thus clearing the way for a better start
To reach out & Love others again
Fill me oh love, like a cup to the top
Fill the world as well like a sea
That I may know love from the world without stop
And all the world know love from me

PROSPERITY BLESSING
Prosperity high as the mountains fastness
Prosperity rich as the fertile ground
Prosperity deeps as the caverns vastness
Prosperity wide as the World round
Prosperity helps heal the hating heart
Prosperity helps heal fear
Prosperity fosters the peace-makers art
Prosperity I call you here!
Prosperity come make us feel secure
Prosperity helps us love peace
Prosperity help us the future ensure
Prosperity I pray you increase
Prosperity I call you to manifest now
Prosperity rumble & shake!
Prosperity now in my life I allow
Prosperity like an earthquake!

Post No. 150 - A word both over-used and under-used: sorry

There is a massive need for apologies to heal the hurts - great and small - of this world ... a need both on the personal level for those who have done harm to take responsibility for their ill deeds, and for nations, groups and the mighty to give heed to the harm done in their course of their causes.

So ... there is a great need for sensible, meaningful sorrow, to begin the forgiving and grieving, and the passing through the anger, that leads to mutual healing of victim and harmer.

In other words, "sorry" is a word which is sadly under-used.

And yet, "sorry" is also a word which is greatly over-used. In this latter context, I have in mind the immature, or manipulative, who flippantly trot this word out with an expectation that all will be forgiven, and they will be allowed to continue their transgressions, their laziness, their attempted manipulations.

Well, unfortunately, it isn't always so.

If you jump - without a prachute or anything else helpful - off an eight storey tall building, it doesn't matter how much you scream out "sorry" on the way down, you're most probably going to die, be maimed horribly, or at least be serisouly injured. [1] In the same way, if you're in a car that you've mishandled, and are sliding irrevocably up a road towards a pole, it doesn't matter how much you scream out sorry, unless you regain control of the car, you have the same choices. If you've done some stupid or irresponsible in the psychic areas of life, unless it is fairly minor, you're choices are to fix the fault, or suffer the consequences.

That includes not practising techniques, or not practising them enough, or not being genuine in your practice. It's got nothing to do with other people's opinions, or manipulating your parents when you were a teenager, or trying to avoid going to jail when you commit a crime and get caught: it's a fundamental law of reality.

Love, light, hugs and blessings

Gnwmythr

Notes:
  1. There are people who have fallen thousands of feet without a parachute and survived (see here), and I understand somone once tried to commit suicide by jumping off a tall building and was blown back in onto a ledge a few floors down without significant injury. So I cannot write that someone in such circumstances will definitely die ...
